Most people don't report being harassed. I can assure you as someone who served many years in the army that the number is much higher. Moreover, #1, separation won't do a thing. A lot of the harassment against men or women comes from the same sex. The worst is certainly men harassing women, but there's again little to be done. Most men are not in positions in the army they serve as the type aids that many women do. I have witnessed women in these roles being harassed in front of large amounts of people. Common examples range from grabbing to juvenile things like purposely spilling a drink so a female officer will have to bend over and clean it for her commander. Army culture is very chauvinist, and it's worse when combined with Israeli culture. Remember that not long ago, in the air force, a file was kept on the hotness rating of women, along with pictures. Many girls are commonly still picked for positions on looks and sent to bases to "boost morale."
3. Moral Army
Joe Mevorah ,   Lincoln, USA   (02.03.14)
The IDF proudly claims to be a moral army in combat. If that is so, why can't the same concept apply to all soldiers at all times. Perhaps those in charge need to remember that they too may have son's and daughters of military age. I don't believe that they would take too kindly if their children were abused in any shape or form.

to admit that Haredim were right all along?

Ask women stories both personal and of friends about the really pretty girls of the sort of selection , attention and abuse they received in the holy Israeli Air Force.
6. What is the definition of harassment? Who does the defining?

As far as female soldiers are concerned, the problem may be solved, when you separate by gender. But what about the male victims? Do you really believe, they get harassed by women perpetrators? Just by the way. The Jewish society is a truly free society. We must fix this in a better way than just gender separation. Whenever I am in Israel I see so many young couples in green uniforms. Lovely! The IDF is one of the best dating site of all times! Don't forget this!
8. don't understand it....

female idf soldiers are carrying weapons too. if some animal does not understand that NO means NO, use it!
9. next racket-scam for leftists
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (02.04.14)
this is already established in the US Armed Forces. Civilian leftist white women who couldn't suck off the "equal opportunity " teat (that's resercved for blacks) get salaries and government pensions for running boards, committees, commissions to fight "rape". all based on fabricated statistics. Follow the money, people.
10. Hareidi say: I told you so
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD, USA   (02.04.14)
Already 50 years ago, the hareidim poskened (ruled) that the Israeli military had the din (legal status) of a brothel.
11. harassment in the IDF

Forget about actual assault which obviously is much higher than 1 in 7. What about an officer ordering a woman to "visit" him in a certain place at a certain hour? She is used to taking orders and she is now in a totally compromised position. Is it any wonder to anybody why the rabbis are against all women serving in the military?

Good thing for the haredim there is a staunch brothel there to defend them at times of need, though.

I am surprised to see the data so low...only 1 in 8 females? and what is the data on males being abused? it seems so much lower than US military abuse report stats, and many of us Vets think those figures are LOW. Perhaps it has a lot to do with "mission" and lack of a sense of moral purpose.
