Mar Niaive ,   Israel   (02.05.14)

5. Great idea! Let someone else babysit for awhile.
manicdrummer ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.05.14)
If NATO troops can stop the rockets from flying, I'm all in favor of it. While they're at it, they can put some NATO troops along the south Lebanese border to keep Hezbollah in check. And all will be well in Israel. Peace at last!
6. Elite Troops Some Jewish
Zechariah   (02.05.14)
For the sake of a Deal Us and NATO troops would have to be elite proactive and follow more than Current IDF Practice. No Reason why Jewish US troops in Combat and Intelligence Roles could not Serve.Remember a future Autonomous Demilitirized Palestinian Provisional Government would have millions more Palestinians some Islamic Jihadi or Fatah Ba'ath Greater Syria .Security would need a huge boost .
7. FORCE MAJOR!!????
JHL ,   USA   (02.05.14)
I have many friends of Questionable mental capacity. I believe however that even they could be better, "quote soldiers" and emptiers of latrine buckets then any NATO troops!!!!!!!!!!
8. Border Security
Max ,   Washington DC   (02.05.14)
Just thankful that American Armed Forces secure America's Borders and not NATO or UNFIL which have proven ineffective in fighting terrorists or protecting civilians.
9. ISAF = ESAV
JED ,   BS, Israel   (02.05.14)
Here we go. Sure, just give them the authority to "open fire", but remember, bullets go both ways. We Jews are just so beaten down.

11. rothchild knows nothing period
alexi   (02.05.14)
only the idf can guard the jordan valley. Rothchild likely was recruited by indyk to deflate yaalon;s dismissal of kerry's plan as essentially garbage. rothchild is not a fighting general and lives in fantasyland.
12. No more Abbas Gaza-Style TRicks!"
Benny ,   Iran   (02.05.14)
Israel was promised: " Leave Gaza and S. Lebanon & UNIFIL will take care. S. Lebanon and Gaza became much worse threat. They are filled with terrorist-like roaches on suicide missions, rocket-launchers, etc. No more UNIFIL or NATO or U.S. guarantees! They cannot be trusted! When it gets tough, they all bail out!
13. NATO? You've got to be kidding!
A Simple Jew ,   Tel Aviv   (02.05.14)
Nato is composed of anti-Semitic Turkey, and the EU which backs the PA, and has threatened to boycott Israel. If these countries can boycott Israel, then at some point they may invade Israel on behalf of the PA at some point, or interfere with Israel's self defense.
14. #1
Harold ,   USA   (02.05.14)
Your are not leaving a chance for the creation of a Palestinian State. Always someone like you presents and leave an obstacle and that is the reason why nothing is accomplished for the last 47 years due to obstacles.
15.  NATO what a laugh
Bill Stein ,   USA   (02.05.14)
I saw how relying on the Europeans worked in the Yom Kippur War the Americans can't be trusted either. It's our land we should keep it
16. Only IDF Can Truly Protect Israel
Aharon   (02.05.14)
While NATO is a very strong force compared to UNIFIL, there are still questions of how effective they will be, how long will they maintain their resolve, and will they be able to commit 100% to Israel's security regardless of their respective countries' interests? Also, the term indefinite is a little troubling. While the implication is that they would be there for several years, the "palestinians" can decide they don't want them there after a month or so, then what? Further, at the bottom of the article, it mentions that Abbas presented Bibi with the idea of an American-led NATO force with Jordanian troops. Jordanian troops should NOT be patrolling the border between "palestinians" and Israel, unless that border is present-day Jordan. There's just too much of a security risk. The bottom line is that the IDF can only protect Israel with Israel's security in mind 100% of the time. The IDF is very experienced in dealing with the "palestinians," why lease the job out to someone who has very little to no experience dealing with them?
17. NATO?
Ariel ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (02.05.14)
B"H - International peacekeeping can only be a disaster. See Paving the Road to Hell: The Failure of U.N. Peacekeeping on the Foreign Affairs website.

19. NATO coming apart ; Stop playing games
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (02.05.14)
Facade being plasterd over by Kerry for Obama consists of Pot smoke and blown bubbles Obama's messianic delusion: all talk thinks speeches can solve the blacks problems, nothing he ever planned worked, other than rigging the 2012 election, favouring famly and cronies
20. Oh you have got to be kidding
Cameron ,   USA   (02.05.14)
The very last thing we need is to place our troops in the very middle of this eternal idiot squabble between Arabs and Israelis. Absolutely no way. We need lavish no more blood and treasure on the large overseas operations without clear end, and certainly not on the most unstable armpit in the ME. If the Europeans & Turks want to jump in on their own speed, then they are welcome to it............not us. A true fool's errand. The ridiculousness of it!
21. trotting out of defense "experts" to sell.....

sovereignty and the lives of its citizens. We, Jews, have shouldered this responsibility upon our shoulders and for good ideological as well as practical reasons, and we have vowed: Never Again!!
23. nato would hamper IDF counter terror moves
trump   (02.05.14)
and would fail to prevent terror like in afghanistan Former Gen Rottschild was hired by kerry to counter Yaalon even at his country stakes ????????? @Harold should be more concerned by arab mayhem all ove rmiddle east instead of chilling for his fakestinians, grow up !
24. Can be extremely effective, once they hire Hamas...
Miron ,   USA   (02.05.14)
the question is this affectivity going to be adding to Israel security.
25. @ 3
sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (02.05.14)
NATO is not responsible for Hezbollah massing missiles in Lebanon, it's your leaders lack of a backbone or the unwillingness to fight. To this day Hezbollah is massing more and more firepower aimed at your throats and your leaders "allegedly" conduct a few strikes here and there, and are even afraid to publicly admit it because they are afraid of retaliation or to fight. Now that is a fact and you can play the anti-Semite card all you want,, however the facts don't lie because if Israel was really concerned about it's security it wouldn't let a world recognized terrorist entity aim missiles at it's cities with impunity. Now respond to this fact.
26. Abbas dragging NATO by the Nose ?
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (02.05.14)
Kerrys Peaceinitiative becomes more and more bisarre !. Arn.Sweden.
27.  That would be one of the
Isac   (02.05.14)
most stupid things Israel would do. Allowing foreign troops anywhere close to Israel. Proof is Lebanon. Nato isn't a fighting forces. It's actually a formatted U.N. force and it is what it stands for: "United Nothing". Give me a break!!!
28. history
(02.05.14)
In every single case, foreign forces protected Arab forces until the Arabs wanted to attack the Jews. The presence of foreign forces is what gave us the War of Attrition, the Yom Kippur war and Lebanon II. Abbas wants NATO forces to protect him so he can launch rockets at Kfar Saba, Modiin and Ben Gurion with impunity.
29. Thankfully reality & common sense doom the mad idea
Cameron ,   USA   (02.05.14)
One of those YNET postings that raise the very hair on your head! Yes, taking a real damn big pass on the proposal for NATO to patrol day and night to keep the rival knuckleheads from running at eachother. Like sticking your hand & arm in the middle of dogfight.
30. No!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.05.14)
No NATO troops shall ever set foot on Israeli soil. First of all, I do not trust them. Secondly, witness Afghanistan and Iraq -- they're no bloody good. Lastly -- and most importantly -- the "Palestinians" will pick off as many as they can which, given NATO's past performances, will mean that quite a lot of NATO soldiers will die. I do not ever want anyone saying that any foreign soldier died in the service of Israel, or died "defending" Israel. I'm not sure that NATO can protect and defend a kindergarten, and I very definitely do not want them portraying to the world that they are "protecting and defending" Israel. We have always looked after ourselves and shall continue to do so. It's the IDF, and the IDF alone -- or no sale. That's a deal-breaker: IDF troops, or Mr. Abbas goes home empty-handed. This time -- home to Amman. Israel has had enough.
