Remember that Pollard was sentenced on the basis of secret testimony by Caspar Weinberger before the judge with no defense attorney present. The whole thing was an affront to the American system of justice. Caspar Weinberger subsequently needed a presidential pardon to stay out of prison. Since Obama has neither cajones nor a sense of justice, it will take enormous pressure for him to do the right thing.

Jonathan Pollard's diet is not the problem. Even vegetarians (which he has been forced to be, for years now - they won't give him kosher food!) get diabetes. Fruit and vegetables have sugar and other carbs in them, and precious little protein. Stress, however, is the more likely reason for his illness and overweight.
