1. How does this play?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.12.14)
"In the interests of justice, France must restore Alsace and Lorraine to Germany. Hollande must prepare his people to accept this. All the French people living in Alsace and Lorraine must be uprooted from their homes. This is justice." No? How about this: "In the interests of justice, Poland must restore East Prussia and the Polish Corridor to Germany. Tusk must prepare his people to accept this. All the Polish people living in the Polish Corridor and East Prussia must be uprooted from their homes. This is justice." No? Not that one either? Okay, how about this: "In the interests of justice, Croatia must restore Istria to Italy. Milanović must prepare his people to accept this. All the Croatian people living in Istria must be uprooted from their homes. This is justice." Still no? Makes no sense, does it? None of them do. But these are just the tip of the iceberg with respect to land and population transfers that have come about as the result of losses in war. "Palestinian" Arabs are not exempt from the consequences of war. Not ONE war, let alone SIX. The consequences which accrue to the aggressors in war are often devastating. Especially when they involve land and population transfers. This is nothing new. The vanquished are not cut a special deal, or entitled to special treatment, simply because they picked the wrong opponent. Israel emerged victorious, and the rights and privileges which accrue to victors who win defensive wars are very well established. If the international community wishes to set new and unique precedent, they are free to start with themselves. Israel is NOT -- repeat, NOT -- the international community's crash test dummy. Let's see land and population transfers in Europe -- all THAT land was sovereign; Judea and Samaria, by contrast, are nonsovereign, therefore Israel's right and title to it are, as it were, set in stone. Unless and until the Europeans are willing to start redrawing certain European borders, and making huge population transfers within the European community, they have no right to demand ANYTHING of Israel. The same holds true for any country, anywhere. When I see the entire community of nations whose borders were drawn as a result of fighting defensive wars in which they emerged victorious immediately change those borders; when I start seeing mass population transfers between countries throughout the world, then and ONLY then will I accept the principle that Israel, too, must adhere to a newly defined canon of laws governing the outcome of military engagements. Unless and until, Israel has every right to annex Judea and Samaria and to repatriate Jordanian citizens residing therein to Jordan. This was, after all, what happened to Italians living in Istria, Germans living in Alsace and Lorraine, and Germans living in East Prussia and the Polish Corridor. Sovereign states have an absolute right to determine who may and who may not reside within their borders; sovereign states that acquire land in the course of fighting a defensive war have an absolute right to retain, and annex, that land. I defy ANYONE to cite an example where a nation that emerged victorious in a defensive war restored territory to the vanquished, or created a brand-new country for them on soil which was now theirs. That is not how wars work.
2. More of Erekat's mind-games
Hunt S Cross ,   England   (02.12.14)
It's way past time that the political leadership of the Terrorist Enclave of Palestine was told that it will get something but that the more they incite, the more they permit attacks on Israelis, the more they threaten to pull out of negotiations, the less there is on the table for them, and that they will have to come up with a verifiable concession for every 10 square miles they receive. Nothing for nothing. Something for something.
3. #1 You miss THE point ; Jews can't win
(02.12.14)
4. Where in UN Security Council Resolution, 242, 1967 - which
N.L.Katz ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.12.14)
has been the basis for all peace talks to date, by consent - is there a call for Israel to retreat to the 1949 armistice lines? And, where in this resolution is there a call for the setting up of an additional state between the Jordan River and the Med. Sea? Indeed, where are the concepts of "Palestine" or "Palestinians" mentioned in 242? Nowhere, of course, because all of the above would contradict the fundamental elements of international law related to the Arab Israeli conflict and the way to resolve it, i.e. (1) San Remo conference decisions, 1920. (2) League of Nations decisions, 1922. (3) UN Charter, article 80, 1945. So, Mr. Ereqat can continue to have his wishful thinking and he may continue to weave "narratives", i.e. fictional stories designed for political expediency, but he has no legal ground on which to stand.
5. Can the Palestinian leadership get any crazier?
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (02.12.14)
How bizarre this is. Naming streets after terrorists freed by Israel, textbooks that incite, leaders calling Jews pigs and totally unpreparing the Palestinian people for compromises they must make. And he gives a lecture to Bibi on a speech that must be made to Israelis? The Israelis have a free press that debates the issues and compromises. They are well aware of the issues, difficult decisions and complexity for peace. They just don't see that their counterparts have as sophisticated an understanding or grasp of reality.
6. erekat a born liar
iraj   (02.12.14)
the bradford trained erekat is a born liar, unreliable in the extreme as are most of his compatriots. With all of their huffing and puffing, their goal is to remove israel in favour of an arab waqf state with a small jewish collection of dzimmis like olmert, livni, herzog, verter, marcus, levy, atilla, sima kadman, ramon, peretz. The pals would want to kill 200,000 jews and boot the rest out. That is what you willl eventually face if you sign a deal. Bibi will sign a deal with reservations essentially cause he was a coddled youngster with no sense of do or die until later. and even then, he cannot change his spots. Lapid, never served in combat(why?), livni served but no combat, peres(never served), herzog served but no combat that I know, same for gal on, german, yechaimovitch. In fact the peace group in Israel is a bunch of pacifists who if we depended on, there would be no state of israel.
7. no.1 - examples from history
Yeoshua F. ,   N.Y   (02.12.14)
I didn't have time to read your manifesto, you must be retired if you have so much time on your hands.. Let me just state that the Palestinians living in the west bank are not Jordanian by any way or form, they are not Jordanian citizens and do not vote for the Jordanian parliament. As for your "challenge".. I don't see the point. History is filled with examples of countries relinquishing conquered territories even after victory and even setting up "new countries" there. World war 2.. the balkan wars.. franco-prussian war.. Algeria etc... What do you mean ? Israel should just hand over the west bank to it's rightful native citizens. The blond settlers who stole land over there have no historical, cultural or genetic links to the place.
8. Now he is a comedian?
Ellen ,   Netanya/NYC   (02.12.14)
This is beyond funny. Israel MUST prepare it's people. This is coming from a representative of an entity that honors terrorists, rewards jihadists, has hate as part of its textbooks, is currently bashing UNRWA for mentioning Zionism in ITS textbooks, etc. etc. etc. When the talks fall apart because Israel will NOT surrender, even BIBI is smarter than that I nominate Erekat for a spot on a comedy show! He IS funny!
9. What a joke Erekat is
Dov ben David ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.12.14)
Let him go to Hanieh in Gaza and tell him that i is striking a deal with Israel, and now Palestinian refugees will be able to come to Israel. That they will have to do with Gaza and Ramallah. Lets hope Erekat will return safely from that negotiation...
10. isnt it good that Abbas has already rejected Kerry terms
zionist forever   (02.12.14)
For once its good that Abbas is probably going to walk away from the proposed terms because Israel doesn't get much out of it. Kerry wants right of return for any palestinians who do not have citizenship of another country. Abbas has said its not enough but Bibi needs to say the same because that number will be in the tens of thousands. No recognition of Israel as Jewish state All settlements must go & no IDF presence in the Jordan Valley. Dividing Jerusalem including the Old City and if the PA religious affairs minister gets his way the Koterl as well. I can see what Abbas gets out of the Kerry deal he is not happy with but I don't see much in this for Israel. Abbas & his propoganda minister Erikat make Arafat demands look reasonable.
11. Two State solution
A. Mizrahi ,   New York, USA   (02.12.14)
In Responce to Mr. Erekat comments regarding PM of Israel preparing the people of Israel to a Two States solution.I did not here any Palestinian Leader preparing the Palestinian People to accept Israel as the National Home of the Jewish People. The schools textbooks in the West Bank still do not show the State of Israel on any of their maps. Perhapse Mr. erekat should also quote the leaders of Hamas regarding any peaceful solution or even Negotioations .To be honest, Mr Erekat should educate his own people as well.
12. Partition Imminent
Lynx ,   Palestine   (02.12.14)
13. Abbass has not prepared Palestinians either...
Jack ,   San Diego,USA   (02.12.14)
...no talk of recognizing Israel as Jewish state; no end to incitement and anti-semitic rhetoric; no end to rockets on Jewish communities; no end to aggression against Israeli civilians; no offer to allow Palestinian citizenship to Jews in settlements...and the list goes on. When will Abbass begin preparing his flock?
14. some retrospect Erekat...
tiki ,   belgium   (02.12.14)
Abbas need to prepare Arab Palestinian people for some reality terms.
15. I Want
Joe Mevorah ,   Lincoln, USA   (02.12.14)
I want! I want! I want! What does Israel get in return. Lack of recognition as a Jewish state. Millions of refugees. An unstable future government, and borders. Stop[ demanding Mr. Erekat. It doesn't work.
