1. How do Idiots like Robert Sherry get their jobs?
Michael Redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (02.13.14)
His comments are the most stupid, ignorant and unrealistic that I've read for quite a while and I read quite a lot! Not even Obama and Kerry are thinking about some kind of deal which would allow Hamas to take over the PA And I realize that Robert Sherry thinks that the PA should control Hamas ...
2. Stating the obvious
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.13.14)
Yes, well, firing missiles and mortars at Israeli civilian population centers tends to erode the "cease-fire" which, you will recall, was violated by Hamas less than six hours after it was agreed. Yet no accolades for Israel -- here we have "Palestinian" terrorist combatants who are doing their level best to murder Israeli women and children and Israeli elderly, but Israel continues to supply the terrorist denizens of Gaza with free electricity, free fresh water and hundreds of thousands of metric tons of humanitarian aid trucked into Gaza on a daily basis. Seems to me it is time to stop being so selfless. Shut down Gaza. No more electricity, no more fresh water, no more humanitarian aid, no more free medical care in Israeli hospitals. Perhaps Turkey -- what with Erdogan being so concerned about the plight of the Gazans -- will pick up the slack. Of course, the Turks would have to fly into Cairo (assuming the Egyptians give him permission; not a certainty by any means), and then there's a long, bumpy ride across the Sinai, with marauding bands of thugs roaming about (don't look to armed escorts from the Egyptians) and then a really long wait at Rafah. Oh, yeah, I can REALLY see Turkey and big-mouthed Erdogan gallantly putting their money where there mouths are. Really I can. Cut Gaza off. Israel has to be the only country in the world that succors the very people bent on its destruction.
3. #2 - Hamas pays for water and electricity.
Michael Redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (02.13.14)
Hamas pays via the PA The PA are the ones that owe almost a billion shekels to Israel. Hamas is in many ways far more moral than the PA. It openly declares its intentions to Israel; pays its bills, and just had the first case of official corruption in several years.
4. Dear Sarah B
Sarah ,   The Netherlands   (02.13.14)
Israel violated the truth minutes after the announcement. Than some minutes later Israel killed 2 Gazans. Just tell the truth will you.
5. Robert Serry
Devorah   (02.13.14)
The article fails to mention that Mr. Serry is also Ban Ki-Moon's personal representative to the PLO and the Palestinian Authority. At the very least, Mr. Serry's credibility and objectivity are suspect and open to question.
6. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.13.14)
Well, if we cannot know who does and does not pay for what, turn the lights out in both the "Palestine" Authority and Gaza, and let them sort it out amongst themselves. We do know who fires the missiles and the mortars, do we not? We know who doesn't pay their utility bills. Reason enough to cut them both off entirely. As long as Israel continues to make life comfortable to the extent of providing food, water, electricity and humanitarian aid, the status quo will prevail. Once the "Palestinians" grow tired of being cold, sitting in the dark, getting ill and dying of very treatable illnesses, and once the supply of water runs out, perhaps things will change rather speedily. For the nonce, I'd much rather provide free electricity and free food to an elderly Israeli. Wouldn't you? And there is no reason to continue to provide electricity to an entity that doesn't pay its bills.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.13.14)
You wouldn't know the truth if it got up and bit you. But yours is a country of Nazi collaborators -- the Dutch collaborators were the worst of the worst -- so truth is really not something you have any business addressing. In the meantime, however, you can make your worthless existence somewhat more meaningful. Devote some time on the internet to researching "Palestinian" terror attacks upon Israel. Thousands have died in those attacks. Do you deny Israel the right to defend its citizens? Of course you do. You're Dutch; you don't think that Jewish people have any rights. That's the ugly truth which festers inside you.
8. UN envoy : when you can get Hamas to stop
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (02.13.14)
shooting rockets into Israel, THEN you will have a ceasefire - not before.
9. Defeat of Hamas is road to peace
Dan   (02.13.14)
Sherry is morally confused, like Obama and Kerry. The problem is not too much but too little division between Fatah and Hamas. Hamas is a terrorist racist group that seeks genocide, not peace. Abbas and America must join Israel in ridding Gaza and the world of it, as Egypt is doing to its parent, the Muslim Brotherhood – only then might peace have a chance.

17. There is always something
paulD ,   Jerusalem   (02.13.14)
that Israel is not doing that is the reason for the violence. After 2,000 years being blamed for the all the deranged garbage in the world, when is Jews going to tell these people where to go? May all those who criticize Israel be victims of the terror and evil they love so much.
18. Arabs need perpetual bloodshed to justify Greater Arabia

20. You Mean There Was a Truce? Prove It!
emanon ,   USA   (02.13.14)
The attacks against Israel never stopped . . . Unless the IDF were able to intervene and stop attacks before they were carried out. Remember, the arab word for truce is "hudna" which loosely translates as "wait a minute, I'm reloading".

If you want to know the truth come here, to Beer Sheba, where I live, in southern Israel
22. Sarah B(east)
Sarah ,   The Netherlands   (02.13.14)
Thanks to these Dutch "collaborators" I am able to sit here on internet. They saved my grandfather from deportation so shut up with your non-sence. BTW the first rocket was March 21 2013 after your darling "Israel" already killed 4 Palestinians.

I'm really not interested in how you pass the time.
25. #4 - those were Gazans who were from Hamas
William ,   Israel   (02.14.14)
They were on the border with Israel and violated the truce, entering into restricted area, and heading towards the fence. They refused orders to leave, then shots over their heads. This is the typical markers of terrorist planting bombs or launching attacks, which by the way, did come not too long after. After every cease-fire, Arab terrorists have increased activity - as a show of strength for the local population - then pulled it back over the next several days. The cease-fire came after an operation to stem terrorist activity out of Gaza and Israel was serious about it. When Egypt was requested to review the response of the IDF, they saw no violation, and Hamas worked hard to pull back its activities, and that of Islamic Jihad, boasting instead other wins like the extended fishing area. Hamas also went on to claim the blockade will be lifted but that was all a fabrication, again for the local populace. So, to re-cap - Gazans violated the cease-fire soon after it was announced, Israel responded per its policy to shows it's serious. And the the cease-fire held since then except for periodic violations by Gazan terrorists. See? Now that you add in Gazan activities and context, you have the larger, more accurate picture.
26. Sarah The Netherland 22
(02.14.14)
Sarah, without Israel you will be afraid to say you are Jewish. If at any time Jews have any problems or pogroms from the European or any other place, Jews have home to go which is called the Holy Land of Israel, you do not have to go all over the world to ask favors. Shame on every Jew who do not support Israel
27. 3.
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.14.14)
Hamas is more moral than the PA? It just had the first case of official corruption in several years? What are you drinking, Michael? Do you know that Hamas is broke? Hamas rules Gaza with an iron fist. Hamas isnt afraid to tell the world they will fight us to the end. Hamas does not have to sit down to talk to Kerry & the EU. Lady Dumb Ashton has not visited Gaza. Hamas answers only to Iran. And, Michael, you do know what Iran wants for Israel, dont you? Hamas is recognized as terrorist organization. The lowest of the lowest.
28. Give Serry some credit...
William ,   Israel   (02.14.14)
He said one thing that was very smart.... Both Gaza and WB need to be united, under the PA govt, which they see as the true representative of the Pallys - which means Hamas is out. I sort of agree with this. Unless Hamas is removed, along with numerous other terror groups, peace is not even an option.
29. #22 - and what caused the death of those 4?
William ,   Israel   (02.14.14)
Attacks on the ground, by the likes of Hamas and Islamic JIhad. The former was testing the IDF's fortitude in enforcing the cease-fire and the latter was stating they never agreed to a cease-fire. Again, when you add in the ugly actions of Gazans, you have the correct timeline and the truth.
30. #22 A small minority of Dutch served in the resistance
A ,   Belgium   (02.14.14)
the nazis. However, "the Netherlands saw one of the highest levels of collaboration during the Holocaust of any occupied country. 75% of the country's Jewish population were killed during the conflict; a much higher percentage than comparable countries, like Belgium and France." It's a known fact that the nazis LOVED you Dutch...you looked like them, Dutch sounds similar to German (I speak Dutch so I know what I'm talking about), and the Dutch had little to say when the nazis, along with Dutch collaborators,(between 20,000 and 25,000 Dutchmen volunteered to serve in the Heer and the Waffen-SS) murderered or deported the Jewish population of the Netherlands. So don't consider yourself so holy, kaaskopje!
