1. Lefties
bob frisby ,   tel aviv   (02.16.14)
I can't understand why a freedom of speech based democracy such as Israel tolerates calls for change from amongst its citizens. Surely, in order to protect freedom, we must not hesitate in stifling these voices.
2. ACRI should set the example - start with itself
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (02.16.14)
ACRI should set the example by immediately cutting off all contacts with all international bodies including all NGOs dealing with the Palestinian issue. ACRI is the national civil rights organizaion of the zionist entity, and thus by definition should be boycotted. If they believe in their own arguments, then they should simply shut themselvs down until the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is settled.
3. Why is there no intrepeneur
rachel ,   homeB4Pesach!   (02.16.14)
that can make in Farsi/other dialects of Palis STICKERS for the same products: STATING... "Buy these items as they give Arabs in Israel better paying jobs than they would get in P.A. Areas!" Then let fray panthers and college activists go sticker happy!
4. Why can't the boycott work both ways
Zev ,   Israel   (02.16.14)
Oh I forgot. They want to be able to boycott Israel but cry when Israel wants to boycott them.
5. All about money
(02.16.14)
ACRI, Yesh Din, CWP, Adala and Gush Shalom who encourage the boycott are all entirely funded by hostile foreign governments. Ultimately, the only effect the law has is whether or not the foreign government has to pay Israeli taxes for the right to use these organizations to attack Israel. I think it is reasonable that when the Norwegian or Saudi government pays some Leftist a huge salary to boycott Israel, some of that money will buy food for Holocaust survivors, medicine for Jewish children, and even bullets to protect Jews from murderers. I wonder what the High Court will rule?
6. Ynet would like the law struck down.
Michael Redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (02.16.14)
"This is one of the most meaningful legal challenges to reach Chief Justice Asher Grunis' desk. Grunis is known as a conservative judge who often avoids interfering with government decisions".
7. Stupid Law
Non Jewish Immigrant ,   Italy/Israel   (02.16.14)
I boycott settelments products and there is no way the authorities can charge me for that
8. #3 rachel: I agree with another sticker:
Jim Yakamoto ,   My Country   (02.16.14)
"Boycott Israel and contribute to Palestinian unemployment!" Another campaign could be "Boycott the EU for their disgusting treatment and discrimination of the Romany (Gypsies) People! Hitler tried to exterminate them with the Jews and and now the EU is trying to finish the job!" The problem is that we Israelis and the Jews of the World are just to damn apathetic to counter the Hate Israel Campaign which has nothing to do with the Palestinians but is just blatant and sick Antisemitism!
9. #7 reading comprehension
(02.16.14)
You aren't asking for a tax break so that you can boycott Jews so the law has nothing to do with you.
10. Foreign agents are directed by European embassies
End EU intervention   (02.16.14)
This are not Israeli NGOs. This are European financed and directed organizations, acting against Israel in the world, while masking themselves as Israelis. Many NGOs have only English language websites and not Hebrew websites, which shows their real intention.
11. STOP using Arab labor NOW... In J&S as well as ALL ISRAEL
Quid pro quo ,   for Israel   (02.16.14)
It will cause their BDS to backfire and it is the BEST FOR ISRAEL. Hire and use ONLY Jewish labor.
12. #11 Quid: Well, what about Israeli Arabs and ......
Israeli ,   Israel   (02.16.14)
New Immigrants from the former USSR who SERVE in the IDF many of who are not Jewish? I agree that we should throw every Palestinian out and prosecute every Israeli, Jew or non-Jew who employs them or tries to smuggle them in!
13. The law as it stands means
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.16.14)
that you can be accused of boycotting a settlement because you decided to buy a certain brand of dates. It also prevents legitimate discourse amongst Israelis about the future status of the settler project, even to the point that it is illegal to campaign against increased amounts of taxpayers money being paid to the settlers so they can heat their swimming pools in the winter. as such this law needs to be removed from the statute books
14. #8 by all means boycott the EU
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.16.14)
Afterall 75% of everything Israel produces ends up in the EU for sale, what possible long term effect on Israel's economy could boycotting the EU have? A basic lack of understanding on the importance to the Israeli economy of trading with Europe I'm afraid
15. Who's dumb enough to believe"occupation"means only West Bank
Sam ,   Canada   (02.16.14)
Who is dumb enough to believe that when Palestinians say "occupation" they mean only the West Bank? The Palestinians want to boycott Israel to death. That's their goal.
16. the left don't have a leg to stand on in opposing this
Scott ,   Ramat Gan   (02.16.14)
As with other law recently passed, this law does nothing to curtail freedom of speech or expression. It simply states that organizations, whose purpose is to cause economic harm to the state of Israel or Israeli citizens are not entitled to government privileges & preferential treatment such as government conferences or tax exempt status. These groups are hurting not helping Israeli Arabs & palestinians who work for Israeli firms in Israel & settlements. If boycott efforts hurt businesses , thousands of these Arabs will lose their jobs.
17. #9 Your reading comprehension is selective
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.16.14)
It reads specifically "The law also allows private individuals who say they were hurt by a boycott call to file for compensation. "
18. to #1 bocotting is non democratic tool
lili   (02.16.14)
it is passive agressive tool to bash one another. Another issue is city like Modia'ain exist in and out of the green line, imagine boycotting only half city, boycotte is stupid.
19. This is a no-brainer
Lee Kaplan ,   Berkeley, USA   (02.16.14)
The boycott movement is composed of Arabs and Israeli communists who want to starve out the Jews in the Middle East. It is anything but nonviolent, as it seeks to make Jews and especially children go hungry to foster the downfall of the state. In the US it is led by Hamas support groups. It's time the government and courts show some common sense.
20. 17 Michael of Haifa she was responding to an Italian
Joe Fraser ,   Canada   (02.16.14)
I did not know laws of the Knesset applied to Italians living in Italy. Thank you for enlightening us once again (sarc.)
21. #17 what?
(02.16.14)
According to the law, no one can be forced to buy something. If you or the Italian #7 don't buy products made by Jews, it is your right. However, if ACRI goes to an Italian supermarket and says "Do not buy from Moshe Cohen the Jew", Moshe Cohen has the right to sue them for damages. Personally, I am against allowing law suits to be filed against those who call for boycotts because the law will allow the AG to shut people up. However, I am for taxing the NGOs, and banning boycotters from government contracts. I am for forcing any NGO from labelling any message with a list of all major and governmental sponsors. I am for every person publically reporting their or their spouse's affiliation to an NGO.
22. No 21. You're mistaking
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Italy/Israel   (02.16.14)
It is not about Moshe Cohen the Jew. It's about Moshe Cohen the settler, David Levy the stealer and Rivkah Abshalom the oppressor.
23. Joe Fraser
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.16.14)
Sounds like an intelligent Italian, in comparison, say, with a moronic Canadian (sarc)
24. Boycott of Israel by US companies
Ibrahim El Awal ,   Dearborn, USA   (02.16.14)
U.S. government requires companies to report all requests to participate in boycotts. U.S. anti-boycott legislation, passed in 1976, aims at reducing American companies' participation in boycotts of Israel, imposing stiff tax and civil penalties on those that comply with such boycotts. Despite these penalties, American companies report that they comply with approximately 30 percent of such requests. US laws prohibit BDS activity by American companies and should be fully implemented.
25. #13, 14, Fatima, your Jihadi credentials are showing
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.16.14)
26. #22
(02.16.14)
So you admit it is not a freedom of speech issue but a money issue: you and ACRI want Saudi agents to get tax breaks in Israel to undermine Israel. By the way, the British Court just ruled against BDS. They pointed out that anyone who buys Israel products will buy from whereever, and the anti-Judea crowds won't by anything from a Jew anyway.
