1. The future is in Asia and America
Look East   (02.17.14)
Israel rightfully retracted its economic counsellors from Sweden and Finland, in order to open new consulates in China and India. Anti-Semitic Europe is sinking. Israel should look east
2. Well said Mr Vahr
Reuven ,   Netanya   (02.17.14)
You should have added: "do not interfere in our internal politics, it is none of your business!"
3. Giraffe
R ,   Israel   (02.17.14)
With all due respect to Denmark, and without accusations of anti-semitism, what I don't get is how kosher slaughter is deemed cruel by Denmark, but making a show of killing a healthy giraffe, and inviting children, among others, to view the "show", is considered ok.
4. If christions did kosher slaughter it would be legal in
Moshe ,   Usa   (02.17.14)
denmark. Until then, kosher slaughter is the most humane way to slaughter as the animal feels the comparatively least pain & has the sense that it is falling asleep. And if I could speak for all Jews, we sincerely thank Denmark for saving 99% of its WWII Jewish population. Thank You Denmark.
5. Compassion
Raphael ,   Netanya   (02.17.14)
If the Danes are so concerned with animal suffering, when will they ban castration of calves, piglets, lambs without anesthesy?
6. Humane ritual slaughter
Zvi Zaks ,   San Jose, USA   (02.17.14)
Why not ban hanging cows upside down before the ritual slaughter. That would be more reasonable that banning schichta, which, by its very nature is designed not to cause pain.
7. I wonder if halal meat is treated the same??
Brett L ,   JHB RSA   (02.17.14)
8. In this case the DK amb. has a good point
Leon   (02.17.14)
Let's not fling mud around gratuitously, misplaced humanitarian ideals in the context of eco-freakism are probably behind this move.
9. giraffe slaughter
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.17.14)
A country that practices public slaughters of zoo animals, should not lecture about slaughtering rules and methods...
10. Honestly, are there any Jews left in Denmark?
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (02.17.14)
This is simply confirmation that Denmark is not a place for Jewish people to live. Move on already.
11. Is hunting illegal in Denmark?
Seth Greenberg ,   Raanana   (02.17.14)
Is hunting illegal in Denmark? What about boiling lobsters alive? If these practices are still protected under Danish law, but schita, the most humane form of animal slaughter is banned, then this is not about animal rights. Unfortunately, Danish history is not repeating itself.
12. The ambassador is right. It is not anti-Semitic
Israeli 2   (02.17.14)
It is simply ant-intelligence. They consider animals to be humans. Next, sex with animals will be allowed. Mark my words. This is how their minds work. I am not only referring to Danes but to everyone including Jews who think this way.
13. Ritual slaughter/giraffe
Inge Detlefsen ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (02.17.14)
I fail to see the connection. The giraffe was not killed in public, only the dissection for educational purposes. This is done in zoos around the world on a regular basis. Had it been a not so 'cute' animal, nobody would ever have heard about it. And since ritual slaughter has not been taking place here for years, why care?
14. The Danes were once a great people.
Reuven   (02.17.14)
Now they have joined the rest of anti-Semitic Europe. And what about that healthy giraffe you Danes murdered last week, after inviting children to watch the sick spectacle?
15. Dear Israel
Rie r olsen bali ,   Denmark   (02.17.14)
The new rouls in Denmark comes because to many muslim want halal meat and make to much trouble.. We cannot in Denmark only make rouls for muslim. Sorry for that. The big problem is muslim halal not the jews way to do it. We love jews people in Denmark and less love to muslim. Jews people is always welcome in Denmark for many many years. Right now muslim is coming and comng and make to many trouble in Denmark.. Jews never make trouble on Denmark SALAM from denmark
16. Jews not safe in Denmark. Scared to wear kippas in public
Laila ,   Montreal, Canada   (02.17.14)
We know that Jews are not safe in Denmark and cannot wear kippas in public. Just because they saved all the Danish Jews 60 years ago does not mean that they are regressing and that we should accept that they insult our religion.
17. Falling a sleep? #4
Reuven   (02.17.14)
How in the world would you know that? Try it on yourself and tell me afterwards if it was like that!
18. Support the Danes
(02.17.14)
Danes are good people, Denmark is a friendly country, and the accusations of anti-semitism are false. The Danes deserve and apology. Kosher slaughter wasn't singled out for banning and as Ambassador Vahr said no one will be hurt by the ban. Kosher slaughter is just innocent "collateral damage".
19. Rabbi Melchior has Stockholm Syndrome
M Fruchtman ,   New York, NY   (02.17.14)
20. denmark and change of kosher slaughtering
claus ,   jerusalem   (02.17.14)
The remarks of some israeli government minister show only the complete ignorance whicch is fogging their heads. In denmark the change for kosher slaughtering is already practised for years. It has nothing ,but really nothing to do with "anti-semitismn". Scandinavia and other western countries are simply on a more advanced stage of development. They found a simple, practicable solution to combine a more civilized approach to kill animals with slaughtering rites of ancient societies. To call this anti Semitism shows only how back warded some of our tribal leaders are. Wake up get real and propose solutions for the 21st century.
21. disproportionate reaction
(02.17.14)
["Denmark's 6,000-strong Jewish community stopped slaughtering its own kosher meat about a decade ago, and relies on imported meat."] De facto nothing has changed, no Jew in Denmark is affected, not even the Muslims are protesting - only Israel's "Deputy Minister of Religious Services" is, while his colleagues in Saudi-Arabia and Iran remain calm.
22. Since it hurts mostly Muslims, Jews need to tolerate this
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.17.14)
23. Danish Antisemitism
Alter ,   Denmark   (02.17.14)
There are 2 words that show the real reason of the ban of Kosher Slaugthering by Denmark, while allowing to kill scores of other animals, including an inocent baby Jirafa in the Danish Zoo despite the offers from abroad to take care of the animal instead of killing it. Those two words are Anstisemitism and Arabophilia.
24. People getting their knickers in a twist
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.17.14)
over nothing, although it does take people's minds off the cost of living crisis in Israel. The fact is no animals were killed in Denmark since 1995 to provide Kosher meat. It is all imported and there are no restrictions on those imports. Usual kneejerk reactions help nobody and certainly do not help relations between Israel and a country described at Yad Vashem as righteous amongst the nations. Are our memories really that short?
25. #17 Ruveun, the way most do it for non-kosher consumers is
Moshe ,   Usa   (02.17.14)
to use a stun gun which allows the animals to continue to live & feel even more pain while being cut up & slaughtered. Therefore, the kosher way is more humane as the animal has some pain when its jugular vein is cut & subsequently senses that it is falling asleep. Even in Mongolia where they add horse blood to a mixture of fruit & water to create a drink for all their in their group, they cut the horses's neck & take the blood & then hold (tape or tie a cloth around its neck) for it to heal. The horses get use to it & stand calmly after they have been cut like this on a number of occasions.

reuven ,   netanya   (02.17.14)
no way you are danish
27. #26 .Yes she's from Denmark
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (02.17.14)
28. Come on Israel!!!!!!
Mark ,   London   (02.17.14)
Always look on the bright side of things. Here is a new export market opening up. If you're really smart you could probably capture a share of the halal market too. Mind you, I'd steer clear of trying to export kosher meat slaughtered in J&S (joke).
29. #25 Moshe the liar
Ivor Evenbiggergun   (02.17.14)
The usual way is to give the animal an electric shock and then slit it's throat whilst it is unconscious or to put a bolt through it's head and slit it's throat whilst it is unconscious. The key being the animal is unconscious when it is killed
30. #24, Fatima, obviously, everything you comment on is bogus
