31. #14, What's your point? The same is true for Acco.
Jake   (02.17.14)
The old city of Acco is even more of a different country. It is 100% Arab, and 0% Jewish.
32. Mr.Amirav,Israel will never have peace with arobs in the
Moshe ,   Usa   (02.17.14)
next 1000 years. It doesn't change any future grief that Israeli Jews will have, arobs will never give peace in 1000 years. So why do you suppose your Jerusalem division plan will give Jews anything but a weaker position both politically & militarily? Jews are very, if not too, conservative in childbearing. Jews love their children(usually) so much that they want to have enough ability to show them affection, direction & leave some wealth behind in order to make their lives easier. This is sad. After the Shoah,Jews should be more risk takers & have more children.arobs pollute the world with children & "martyr" their lives, sell them off or abandon them without care. We are competing against a vile people.
33. let's get this straight.
(02.17.14)
First the extreme Left imports at least 400,000 foreign Arabs, probably more. The extreme Left then does everything it can to prevent Jews from living in Jerusalem like not building houses, and everything it can to flood Jersualem with Arabs like allow illegal building. Now the extreme Left says it is inevitable? No, admit that it was your plan from the start for Jerusalem, and next step the rest of Israel?
34. #21 - Wrong ?!
yosef, phd ,   florida - israel   (02.17.14)
Right on 21 ! There is NO demographic time-bomb - only endless leftist wishful thinking and typical cynical abuse of democratic principles by clever falastyn propaganda. As Jew-baiting and demonization of Israel has unlimited petro$$ budgets and the best brains in that sordid "business" ,the arabs can continue distorting historical & political facts, thus misleading untold milions of innocent and ignorant people worldwide.
35. # 18 Please visit Yad Vashem
Daniel   (02.17.14)
Feeling quite uneasy to read about a "Greater country X" that should be "freed of ethnicity Y". That echoes the darkest aspects of both Jewish history and human history. Anyone suggesting it should visit Yad Vashem.
36. Well, jews have more than 4,25 kids per woman,
Emanuel ,   Frankfurt   (02.17.14)
arabs just 3,7 in Jerusalem. Jews move out of Jerusalem bc of shortage of housing and more to come thanks to Meretz and the folk like Amirav who complain when legal buildings are planned but illegal buildings by Arabs are more or less ok. Haifa is also becoming bi-national, so what. BUT Israel is becoming more jewish, more jewish kids (126.000), less arab kids (38.000), so what :-)
37. Will the city formally divide at the end of the day?
Cameron ,   USA   (02.17.14)
Personally, always thought that would be a true disaster step, but hey, the ME has always been the art of the possible for crazy moves.
38. What the Koran says on the Holy Land
Nora Tel Aviv   (02.17.14)
Look what the Jordanian Cheikh Ahmad Adwan recently wrote : " There is no such thing as Palestine in the Koran. Shura 5, Verse 21 (Shura of the Table) says: Allah gave the Holy Land to the Children of Israel until the Day of Judgment. Shura 26, Verse 59 (Shura of the Poets) says : We have done of the Children of Israel, heirs of the Land. Therefore, continues Sheikh Adwan, adressing today`s Palestinians, your demand on the Holy Land constitutes an attack on the Koran.
39. Uh...no
William ,   Israel   (02.17.14)
There are many reasons to NOT divide Jerusalem, and here are just a few: 1) The Pally demographic the author is claiming is dead wrong. The Arab citizenship from PA areas in the city is limited and can be rescinded at any time. Only those who actually reside in the city and own property, with actual Israeli ID cards, can stay. The rest, who are migrant workers and moved to the city just for work and benefits, can be phased out and sent back to PA areas. 2) Who's to say that all Arabs in the city are anti-Israel, pro-PA? Israel should enact sovereignty over the entirety of the city, as was the right and plan in 1967, and with that, Israeli citizenship under Israeli laws, and with Israeli infrastructure to the communities. 3) Dividing the city would place Jewish holy places on the Arab side of the line, per the 1949 lines and the PA's current demand. Without the holy places, what is left of Jerusalem for Jews? That was the point of Arafat in demanding Jerusalem, and its the point of Israeli Leftists who aren't so tied to Judaism and the Western Wall. 4) Dividing the city will not bring security but rather the same vulnerabilities as was the case between 1949-1967. If it is divided, who's to say the PA won't flood their side with tons of Arabs to create facts on the ground and as a future push into the rest of Jerusalem? Again, that was Arafat's plan as admitted to Muslims in South Africa. That plan has never been dismissed. By dividing the city, one that was never divided in history before the 20th century, you upset its diverse culture, you solidify the sectarian tension which in the past has led to war, you create a cultural divide where Arabs will invariably have less than the Jews across the border creating more tension, you will have a reduction in Jewish ties to the city with the loss of its holy places, and you have a world which will begin to question Israel's government in Jerusalem at all if the Israelis themselves were able to just give up that which they claimed was so important to their State and Jewish heritage.
40. At last someone is saying it out loud!
a Jeusalemite   (02.17.14)
I want to add just a few points: Actually Israel IS succeeding in turning the Arabs of east Jerusalem into "Israeli Arabs". More and more of them apply now for Israeli citizenship, there's a drastic rise in Hebrew studying, drastic rise in applications to study in Israeli high education institutes etc etc. On the ground there's a major change in the last 2 years where you see many east Jerusalem Arabs coming to shop and stroll in the center of town - something that hasn't happened since the reunification of the city in 1967. In polls the Arabs in east Jerusalem say that they want Israel and not the Palestinians to control east Jerusalem - because of the benefits they get from Israel - national security stipends, medical care etc etc. So Israel did secceed in integrating the Arabs of east Jerusalem into the Israeli life style and society and it seems to me that the majority of them want very much to be part of Israel and not the poor Palestinian authority but thias comes with a very high price for Israel. The price is indeed losing the Jewish Zionist majority in Jerusalem and turning it into a bi national city. Most of the Jews in the city and out of it are not exactly thrilled to see how their areas (center and west Jerusalem) have turned into a bi national areas and they have to share their everyday lives with hundreds of thousands of Arabs who come now to center and west Jerusalem and with whom they have little in common. Most of the Jews I spoke with are hoping that the city will be divided so that there will be a separation between the populations like there used to be. Let us Jews live in our areas and the Arabs live in theirs in east Jerusalem. We can visit each other as tourists and live in peace but nothing good will come out of this kind of mixture that is hapenning now in Jerusalem between the Jewish population and the huge and fast growing Arab minority.
41. Peace loving people!!
(02.17.14)
How tolerant and peaceloving people have we become!! Read carefully the talk backs and you'll understand how obscene and despicable our language has become. We want the world to relate to the fact that we deserve this land by kicking out Arabs from the place they inhabited for hundreds of years!! By doing so we'll gain people's respect and admiration, right?! Wrong......... Dream on and don't blame anybody for the growing antisemitism around the world. Israel should teach the world the meaning of coexistance and peace not right-wing hatred and violence.
42. Flawed logic . Nazareth is 100% Arab
Jake   (02.17.14)
many if not most of whom identify with palestinian nationalism, and not with Israel. In fact, the entire Galillee has more Arabs than Jews. Following the logic of the author, we ought to cede this to the palestinians, because beloved though it may be, demographically we have "lost" it already. Apart from the fact that the statistics in this article are false, basing one's argument soley on demographics is flawed, especially in the case of Jerusalem.
43. To: No. 27
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.17.14)
Once you eat it, you no longer have it. It's just an English saying, meaning that you cannot have a thing both ways; you must choose one. Don't worry. As concerns the "Palestinians," they will invariably choose the wrong thing. I think it's a genetic failing.
44. Jerusalem is ONE and Israel is ONE !

Abdullah ,   Jordan   (02.18.14)
When Bani Israel, or some of them had been Muslim (submited to God) they were given the holy land. but. Due to the crimes after, such a killing messengers, changing the religion, refusing to accept Gods orders. You lost the land, and children of Ishamael were granted the land. And until this day you believe that God must serve you.
48. Jerusalem has long been divided
Shachar ,   Eilat   (02.18.14)
The question is how to unite it. First step is to get rid of the greater Jerusalem syndrome. Define the city as the central areas, old city as far as Silwan, Abu Tor etc and west Jeruslem. Other areas get their own councils. Then you can invest in the areas that are important to everyone and make them accessible to all.
49. Let's divide the Hebrew University instead and
Ari ,   Haifa   (02.18.14)

52. What's in a name & number?
tiki ,   belgium   (02.18.14)
"40% of Jerusalem residents are Palestinians? No they are Israeli Arabs or Arabs or ex Jordanians but certainly not Palestinians! "Jerusalem is a 'bi-national city"!? No, Jerusalem is a multicultural city! "East & West Jerusalem"? There is only Jerusalem where people of all color & religion live and work together! Is everything perfect? Of course not, because perfection doesn't exist.
53. Jerusalem divided
Dik ,   Spijkenisse   (02.18.14)
would be a disaster for Israel. Remember the prophet Zecharia who spoke Gods Words thaat Jerusalem would be a heavy stone to lift. Shalom from Holland

Ben S ,   Free World   (02.18.14)
55. Tel Aviv is next. They want it all !!!!
Ben ,   USA   (02.18.14)
56. Defining Jerusalm
Menachem ,   Israel   (02.18.14)
Any serious debate on Jerusalem's future should start on defining the borders of Israel's capital which has Israel's most fluid and poorly defined borders. Arab towns like Shufat and Beit Hanina have the status as "neighborhoods" although they have no more in common with Jerusalem than Gaza has with Tel Aviv. on the other hand, nearby Israeli communities like Mevasseret Zion and Ma'ale Adumim which have natural cultural, political and economic ties with Israel.s capital are not defined as Jerusalem. Jerusalem was united when the New Jerusalem was united with the tiny old city of Jerusalem. Jerusalem should not be "divided" but its borders should be redefined to exclude alien third world Arab towns which drain Jerusalem. The real Jerusalem is far more Jewish, Zionist and prosperous than this factually incorrect article implies.
57. Keep ALL of Israel
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (02.19.14)

Yerusa ,   USA   (02.19.14)
59. WRONG! If you divide Israel you LOSE it.
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (02.19.14)
No sane Jew would ever consider dividing Israel's eternal capitol, Jerusalem. Then again, neither would any sane Gentile. CLAIM IT, NAME IT, BUILD IT !!!
60. Encourage the Arabs to leave
Jacob ,   Petach Tiva   (02.19.14)
Give the Arabs incentives to leave. Stop Arab illegal building. We need a disengagement, it is not the hard. They did it to Jews in Gaza.
