1. LNG can serve Japan.
Miron ,   USA   (02.23.14)
It's time some people in Israel get educated about what it means "to invest" before they look at cost of project. True, LNG may potentially take more money to recoup. But it will recoup faster because of the business prospects it offers. Besides, pipes run while there is gas to siphon. Terminals with technologies such as LNG get life of their own. And continue to remain centers of technology and advance. A magnet for people of mind and endurance with few equals. Pipelines live or die with resource those attached to.
2. Erdogen and Turkey would be better served through diplomacy
BUILD BABY BUILD!!!! ,   United States   (02.23.14)
rather than ego. Too bad Erdogen is such a flaming anti semite, it's clouding his judgment and rational. Turkey will suffer greatly due to Erdogen and his anti Israeli stance. KEEP BUILDING ISRAEL !!!

anton ,   istanbul   (02.23.14)
"maritime arms race, which Turkey cannot win" "Israel, on its part, does not need to enter into an arms race with Turkey"
4. Miron #1: Normally, comments do
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (02.23.14)
not strike me as especially enlightening but yours did. I never considered the broad effect of creating a centre for the purification of commercial gas but, as you indicated, such a centre can then become an educational unit which might develop other commercial enterprises and scientific breakthroughs as well. Thanks for your effort.
5. Turkey's collapse is imminent. End Kurdistan occupatiion.
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.23.14)
6. What a nice easy target
Mordechai   (02.23.14)
So when the IDF sinks it a lot a Turkish money and soldiers will go down all at once.
7. Israel has at least four ways to take out Turkey's warship
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.23.14)
A senior US official described Israel as "an unsinkable aircraft carrier". The IAF could take certainly take out Turkey's upcoming warship with conventional bombs or standoff missiles (like those used to take out Syria's nuclear reactor). Israel also has naval options: missile boats and its latest Dolphin-class submarines. The problem however is the very ambitions that drives Turkey to build such a vessel will manifest in more bold and aggressive - even reckless - behavior. Said warship could do a lot of damage before it's stopped. Turkey no doubt hopes its neighbors will be so cowed by its power that it will cave to Turkey's demands rather than risk a military confrontation.
8. A brief history of Turkey's awesome naval power
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.23.14)
1) In the middle of the 17th century, the Sultan Ibrahim the Mad ordered his admiral to sail to Malta to attack the Christian enclave on the island. The admiral could not find Malta on his charts and declared "Malta Yok" (there is no Malta) 2) A few centuries of naval peace and quiet 3) In the 21st century, Erdogan, the feeble-minded, sent the Marmara to relieve the siege on Gaza. I personally, am not too impressed by the might of the Turkish navy. The Swiss navy scares me more.
9. mad dog erdogan will lose
CJK   (02.23.14)
if he ever attacks israel or israeli intersts, israel will put an end to his lunatic adventures. he cannot count on nato to back him if he starts a war.
10. Israel cannot trust Turkey under any circumstances
CJK   (02.23.14)
forget islamist, antisemitic turkey, and rely on cyprus and greece.
11. Maybe Anton the Asiatic settler of Constantinople...........

Go back home to to Mongolia you belong to.
12. All paid for by eu aid
daniel ,   TA - IL   (02.23.14)
the islamist turkish government receives billions of euros in aid from the eu... guess the eu is very happy with the islamist aggression as the eu really started heaping it on after the convict erdogan becam prime minister (he was jailed for racism and inciting hatred). Clear what they want and whom the 'alte kameraden' support - a final solution maybe
13. Anton, Istanbul
Lazerbenabba ,   London   (02.23.14)
I believe that the point being made is that as with the Belgrano sunk by a UK submarine, similarly with Israel's far superior undersea capabilities it is a no brainer that should circumstances warrant this Edhogan posturing a similar fate would happen to this Turkish floating target.
14. above
moishe   (02.23.14)
most sophisticated war ships are still vulnerable to hi tech and poor management. a long range missile directed from an overhead satellite can destroy any ship. overspending on war preparation is wasted resources unless you intend to go to war or must defend from an enemy.
15. Turkey goes down in a hell basket

17. Anton not strange just use your grey matter
Joe Fraser ,   Canada   (02.23.14)
Turkey is not going to be in an arms race with Israel, it will be with the USA and the EU, hence, a no win scenario for your peeps.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.23.14)
How's the Turkish economy doing, honey? What's the lira doing these days? Keep in mind I know the answer to those questions; quite probably better than you. Turkey's only hope is to vote that chinless fool Erdogan out of office. Turkey's undoing is entirely his fault. Better stop the slide before Erdogan's mistakes -- which have been considerable in number -- become permanent. Some are already just that.
20. Turkey in NATO was a historic mistake
David   (02.23.14)
The EU dodged a bullet when they rejected Turkey's entrance into EU. Now, Turkey is more Islamist than ever before. Their entire economy is built on hot money. They have the biggest CAD(Current Account Deficit) of all the BRICS by far. No other country comes close. They are funding it through debt as investment has dried up. Europe is sleeping. Greece should not shoulder this alone. Israel is a pathetic naval power. The only thing they have that is powerful is the doplhin-class submarine and that's not made in Israel; it's a "gift" from Germany(stupid move by the Germans). Britain alone has one of the strongest navies in the world and has more aircraft carriers than either China or India. Put Turkey to sleep and make sure it never wakes up. Ever.
21. Rolling on the floor laughing
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.23.14)
Stiop it please stop it, the standard of delusion on this thread is incredible. Turkey is a member of NATO any attack on Turkey or it's assets will result in Article 9 being invoked. Israel cannot possibly win a war against NATO even in the minds of the most deluded surely
22.  Turkey is becoming as great a danger to IL as Iran
Alan ,   SA   (02.23.14)
23. To: Miron at No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.23.14)
The decision has already been made. Israel will build an offshore (floating) LNG platform. It has already signed a contract with Woodside, an Australian firm. Turkey's been cut out of the plan. The contract is extraordinarily beneficial to Israel -- and neither Turkey or Lebanon will reap any benefit. The benefit to Israel, on the other hand, will run into the high billions, possibly trillions (if Israel charges below-market rates). The message, in a nutshell: Don't mess with the Chosen People. We've got the brains, the brawn, the Divine on our side and now -- two of the largest natural gas fields ever discovered, pretty much right when natural gas is becoming the wave of the future. Even I didn't guess that. I thought that nuclear energy would be the wave of the future. But then came Three Mile Island, and Chernobyl and Fukushima -- nuclear energy is clean and it is cheap, but Lord help us all when the plants have accidents. And they do. And Israel has all that natural gas, sitting right offshore. What do you want to bet that the U.S. will abandon the highly divisive issue of fracking, and buy from Israel, too? For the U.S., Israel will drop the market price even lower. A very big "thank you" for the United States' lukewarm support over the years. That's why Israel can easily afford to help Kerry with his frequent flyer miles. The United States needs Israel right now considerably more than Israel needs the United States. Don't forget China. Oh, to be sure, the United States can undo China's influence simply by removing its most-favored-nation status and imposing huge tariffs on cheaply-made goods from China. I doubt the U.S. will do that, though. But you are right. The future lies with Asia and the East. Europe is done, and North America isn't faring too well. Europe's demise is almost a foregone conclusion, North America's less so. Perhaps it is time -- 2,000 years of screwing up the world is enough, don't you think?
24. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.23.14)
If you REALLY want to sell the product, you have to get the lingo down correctly. It's "going to hell in a handbasket." But you do have the style down pat. It isn't much of a style -- short, chopped phrases short on modifiers -- but Benassi clearly thinks it's cool. It is anything but. Or, in Benassi-speak, "not."
25. If Turkey are expanding her naval assets
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.23.14)
It is because her NATO colleagues wish her to do so. So making up a non existent threat is a bit pathetic really
26. Erdogan is bitting off more than he can chew
zionist forever   (02.23.14)
An aircraft carrier alone cost billions, onto of that there are expensive jets made for the carrier and support ships which have the same range as the carrier itself and of course fuel & maintenance of the carrier alone will run into the millions By the time the fleet is completed it will have cost Turkey a fortune and its all because Erdogan dreams of the prestige of being a global military power not because Turkey is under threat As for Israels gas, much better off going via Cyprus in liquified form. It might be more expensive but it buys friends like Greece & Cyprus which we never had before because of the relations Turkey has with those countries and our friendship with Turkey. The liquified gas terminal in Cyprus also opens up the entire EU to trade, a pipeline goes from A-B it cannot also go to C & D. It also has potential for political benefits because both Cyprus & Greece are members of the EU so maybe lets ge some friends in the traditional anti Israel EU, Turkey is not a member of the EU.
27. :'-( T_T and then apologize
MELISSA ,   izmir   (02.23.14)
Anyone remember IDF soldiers on Mavi Marmara..
28. #19 'Sarah B'
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.23.14)
Actually if turkey can spend $3 billion on expanding their navy their economy appears to be performing very strongly.
29. to #21, fake Sarah B
Howard Immanuelson ,   US   (02.23.14)
Guess what, fake Sarah? If Turkey initiates hostilities with their naval forces and they get fired on/sunk by Israel, Turkish cries to NATO will be met with absolute silence.
30. To: No. 21, redux
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.23.14)
You mean the way NATO refused to come to the aid of Turkey with respect to the MAVI MARMARA? How about in 1974, and the invasion of Cyprus? Where was NATO then? Roll on the floor some more, why don't you? It's a dog thing.
