What's this, "my country right or wrong?" Chris is simply pointing out some truths. Do you criticize your government when it does something wrong in your name? Germany as a country has far more baggage when it comes to dealing with the Jewish State of Israel than most. Criticism, whether constructive or not, is definitely not called for, coming from a German. It is crude for the United States to double-team Israel, and demonstrates a shocking crudeness for the United States to choose Germany as its double-team partner. We know that Obama and his crew are ham-handed, rank and highly insensitive amateurs. But Germany? That is truly offensive, given Germany's past and yes, Germany's past does matter. It's a threatening gesture by the United States -- not to mention a not-so-gentle reminder of gas chambers and crematoria. It's also stupid on the part of the United States to put that in the forebrain of all thinking Jews; especially in the State of Israel, phoenix risen from the ashes of the Holocaust. I don't much care for Chancellor Merkel, but I did credit her with better sense that she has shown, allowing herself to be dragged along for the ride by the United States administration. And do you know what this whole dog and pony show has achieved? I will tell you. It serves to remind Jews rather forcefully of what we have endured in the past, and what the future can hold. We must look to our own interests, and not depend on the words of anyone else. So in that regard, Obama dispatching Merkel to "hold Israel's hand" is, in the words of my youngest, an "epic fail." Israel won't be bullied. We do not fear our enemies. Our "friends" are the ones to be feared. Chancellor Merkel should be ashamed. Obama -- well, he is to be scorned. Pathetic try; no sale.
