1. Basic right
Reuven ,   Netanya   (02.28.14)
First of all, electricity should be a basic right for everyone. If one can't pay his bills - the company should install a eco-meter which limits the amount of electricty delivered at a minimum cost. Secondly, if it is true that millions are getting free electricity, than this purely proves that none of the elected politicians are worthy of their seat in the knesset and that we are living in a state where the law means nothing. But that shouldn't be a surprise when we know that settlers are shooting at unarmed people when the army is standing next to them or when a large group of people is getting government funded support for doing each day until the end of their lives. In other words, it is a zoo out here.
2. Martin Schulz - Did not mention this - did he..mmm??
Shlomo   (02.28.14)
Why aren't the Europeans paying for these freeloaders? Apparently big bad Israel is actually giving these filthy scum free power - and it doesnt rate a mention. It is little wonder there are so many problems with idiotic behaviour like this going on. How many Pal freeloaders get free water too???
3. Absurd and cynical point of view
Yeoshua F. ,   N.Y   (02.28.14)
I can´t make up my mind if you´re more cynical or ignorant when you try to compare a free settler who can move and work freely with a Palestinian who is practically a hostage. If a Palestinian can´t pay his ¨bills¨ it´s because he is not given the opportunity to lead a normal life and earn a decent living. His nation is not being given the opportunity to develop a normal prosperous economy. The Palestinians are being forced to buy Israel´s services, because under occupation they have no resources, administration or money to develop their own energy sector. When a prisoner is in jail he has to eat the jail´s food, because he can´t cook or buy food from anywhere else. I can´t think of a child above the age of 7 who would not understand this logic. You see the world through the eyes of a corrupt merchant in the market place, who´s only care in the world is the money in his pockets, regardless of how dirty that money is. That is exactly how we Jews are portrayed in the world by our critics, bloodsuckers who profit from other people´s misfortunes and step on them when they´re down. Your absurd position invites antisemitism.
4. Gideon and freedom
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Haifa   (02.28.14)
Gideon, while you and any Israeli is free to go in and out of this country whenever he wants to travel the world, any Palestinian has to apply for a laissez-passer (which is often rejected for obscure reasons) to visit his family in Gaza or to travel to some other places. And you complain about an electricity bill.... Look at yourself in the mirror
5. 'No pay no get'
Gita ,   Kibbutz, Israel   (02.28.14)
Tell me this isn't true. Not even the Europeans are bailing them out?
6. How can the biggest recipients of aid
Vered, Israel   (02.28.14)
in the history of mankind on planet earth not be able to make their own power. What can't we EVER separate from them?
7. Occupying Authority Complications
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (02.28.14)
Ass the occupying authority, Israel militarily controls the Palestinian economy. Occupying Authorities have obligations to civilians under belligerent occupation. If those civilians were citizens and not under a military belligerent occupation, circumstances might be different. The same would be true if those civilians were living in an independent state that was no longer under militarily belligerent occupation.
8. Free electricity from Israel
Harold ,   USA   (02.28.14)
I don't believe it and don't publish and spread words when you do something good.
9. its the cost of occupation ?
Mendoza ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (02.28.14)
you have by law to provide basic services, maybe according to international law?
10. Israeli madness confirmed
Martin Cohen ,   uk   (02.28.14)
11. If it's given to you, take it!
tiki ,   belgium   (02.28.14)
The Palestinian Arabs are 100% right! It's not up to them to change this opportunity, it's up to Israel's government to end this idiotic farce.
12. Stop supporting "Palestinian" enemies!
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.01.14)
The WW II Allies would never have considered showering the Nazis with food, materials, money, electricity etc. NO other nation has ever voluntarily supported its foes. Let us all DEMAND the immediate total end to Israeli support of our mortal "Palestinian" enemies.
13. PA to bill Israel for water, rent, +tax income, goods, trade
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (03.01.14)
14. #9 Mendoza
DavidR ,   USA   (03.01.14)
The only occupation is the one going on in Israel by the arabs. Yhudah and Shomron is occupied by an invading arab force. I wonder, are you by chance part of that occupation? Mendoza doesn't sound Jewish!
15. #9 - free electricity to all homes isn't one of them
William ,   Israel   (03.01.14)
Apparently when Intl law doesn't work for you, you manipulate it so it does. However, Pallys get electricity per Oslo, not Intl Law, and if they fail to pay for it, they lose it. Of course, hospitals and infrastructure plants like sewage and water will still get power.
16. #13 - hahaha, how can a non-entity bill anyone?
William ,   Israel   (03.01.14)
The PA isn't even a sovereign entity but rather a caretaker govt. They can bill their own people but no one else. 1) The Pallys don't own any of the land, its in political dispute therefore no chance to charge rent. 2) tax income - Pallys already receive this through Oslo Accords, already paid in full despite the PA's large debt 3) Goods / trade - what exactly do you mean here? There is trade between the areas and money transfers, so its a non-issue. 4) water - the cost for raw material is much less than for the processing into another product. That is, water - which is a tiny percentage coming from disputed areas - is processed for purity and delivered via Israeli networks to Pally homes. Sure, we'll pay Pallys for the tiny raw material we use then hand them a nice whopping bill for the cleaned and distributed final product. Where do we sign? Must be nice to screw with other people's lives when living 10,000km away, huh?
17. #14 - Mendoza sounds Spanish...
William ,   Israel   (03.01.14)
probably one of the many self-righteous foreigners in Israel that "fight" for Pally rights during the day then party hard in Tel Aviv at night. The safe way to have a "conscious" these days without facing the trouble of learning about the situation or getting hurt.
18. Harideem getting everything for free
Miri   (03.02.14)
19. Free electricity
Mickey Maus ,   U.S.A   (03.02.14)
Who ever thinks Israel is an occupier really needs an education. If they are occupiers so are you,
20. organized trolls?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (03.02.14)
it seems odd that 90% of the talkbacks are anti-israeli trolls, all of a sudden. what's happening, is unemployment in ramallah up again, because of the sodastream boycott? the arabs are stealing, again, and the paid trolls are out in force - nu, so what else is new?
21. Mendoza is a Sephardic name
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.02.14)
22. #19 Israeli gov't defines itself as occupying force
Shachar ,   Eilat   (03.03.14)
In 1967 Israel set up a military gov't in West Bank and both settlers and Palestinians are tried under Israeli Military law. Until this changes Israel defines itself as an occupying power. This is totally irrelevant to the electricity scandal which is simply poor management.
23. #22. It is lunacy to support & supply your foes.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.04.14)
It is not "poor management" to support and supply your mortal foes. It is lunacy and it must stop!
