1. Serving is slavery. Serving own nation fascism!
Miron ,   USA   (03.03.14)
2. If Israel ever falls
shrinkDave ,   Miami USA   (03.03.14)
These are the people who will be responsible.
3. The march of 600,000 parasites
Haim ,   TA   (03.03.14)
Dont serve = no funding. Cut their benefits to 0 and cut off the funding to their Yeshivot. If you want to practice chicken swinging, and child gentile mutilation feel free but in your own time and not at the expense of the tax payer. There is a law in this land and if they dont like it, they are free to leave the country, although im not sure which country will take them in and pay for this so called life style of theirs. They are draining the resources of this country, they are milking the system dry while contributing nothing.
4. no enlistment, no citizenship
Toledano Jean-Pierre ,   Israel   (03.03.14)
Refusing the enlistment. OK, but no more social securirty, etc.... They don't want to be Israeli citizens. If they're living here: take away their Israeli citizenship. But, I understand, they have the right to visit Israel: give them a visa for 3 months.
5. The IDF
Akiva ,   NYC   (03.03.14)
The IDF has never asked for Haredim to be drafted and would probably be happier NOT to be flooded with Haredim. If Lapid wanted everyone to share the burden, why has there been no mention of the 20% of Israelis who are Arabs? There are twice as many Arabs as Haredim, but no hint that they should share the burden in any form.
6. Really now?
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (03.03.14)
I think Israel should announce to everyone that bnei barak and Ultra Orthodox neighborhoods in Jerusalem will not longer be protected from terrorism, and let the Palestinians go nuts in those areas. Let the Ultra orthodox community suffer a few suicide bombings, and the anxiety from rocket attacks that play Russian roulette over your head!. I get and appreciate their commitment to the Torah, but i don't think they appreciate the burden the rest of us carry to make sure our way of life continues on the next day. I'm sure they feel some deity will protect them from extinction, yet i'm shocked how they still bother to prepare and eat food, not thinking god will just do it for them! And No, I don't actually want any harm to come to my fellow Jews!
7. Of course they won't enlist
(03.03.14)
They have a marvellous life doing nothing Bussed everywhere they wish, well fed and home to mummy. Choolent Thursday night In the street, a 'heppening' :). every Rosh Chodesh Jumping around in the air. What a great life The only Kedusha added to Am YIsrael is from the real few, very few real learners and our masses of holy chayalim. That's it.
8. Lapid is a walking disaster
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (03.03.14)
This kulturkampf will get full coverage in the anti-Israel media -- NY Times, Guardian, Independent, BBC, Haaretz etc. Times for Bibi's meeting with Obama. 'Orthodox Jews [Belz] consider leaving Israel because of religious persecution'. The media will go crazy with anti-Israel interviews and other coverage. Lapid is a walking disaster, not unlike another MK named Lapid.
9. Destructive Haredim
Myron Ernst ,   Vestal, NY   (03.03.14)
The Haredim are doing the Arabs' job: destroying Israel. They are the de facto allies of the Arabs., and the majority of them are the DE JURE enemies of a secular Jewish Israel and will celebrate its destruction as much as the Arabs would. Their kind of Judaism is a safe haven for Obsessive -Compulsive Disorder.
10. That is a great deal of dead weight
Cameron ,   USA   (03.03.14)
Put a stop to the dole checks for a time, and they'll be lined up to don fatigues and shoulder a rifle.
11. Keep praying boys and rioting ;) ,...
split ,   US   (03.03.14)
12. Let them do some comunity service
Yechezkel ,   Herzliya   (03.03.14)
I say dont force them to go to army but force them to do community service in hospitals ,old aged homes or something that will at least contribute to our society instead of sucking us all dry.
13. Every kind of extremism is dangerous !
(03.03.14)
14. Where does it say in the Torah
Tim ,   Brighton   (03.03.14)
Haredim cannot serve because "We give to the State no less (than soldiers) through our prayers'? That's seems to be the basic premise of their objection? Oh so that's all right then?
15. Instead of putting those parasites
Mirav ,   Vienna   (03.03.14)
in prisons, which would cost the State lots of money, just cut financial support! There is no excuse for not serving your country in some reasonable way, not even learning Torah. I did two University degrees within 7 years working full time!
16. Thank You
Greg Samsa ,   Israel   (03.03.14)
I wish to give a really big thank you, to all the employers, and bosses, for allowing 500,000 people to leave their important day jobs in order to attend a demonstration. I hope that this mass leaving of such a huge workforce did not affect the countries economy in any way.
17. Number 4. Citizenship
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (03.03.14)
20% of Israeli citizens are Israeli Arabs, who refuse to do IDF or alternative national service, compared to 10% who are Haredim dedicated to Jewish learning. Would you withdraw citizenship and all benefits for Israeli Arabs? Should all Israelis share the burden or not?
18. 14, Tim in Brighton
Akiva ,   NYC   (03.03.14)
When there has been conscription, as in the USA during Vietnam, all seminary and yeshivah students were given a '4D' deferment. From what I see the IDF does not want a flood of Haredim and this proposed law does not ask the 1,500,000 Israeli Arabs to enlist or to do any form of alternative service. Lapid wants to 'share the burden' with Haredim but not Israeli Arabs.
19. enlistment
Robert Stewart ,   Moshav Kidmat Zve   (03.03.14)
There should be a special unit in the IDF when there is a war the Ultra-Orthodox would go before the army with the Torah scrolls and sing before the Lord just like in the Torah. This would be the right way for them to fulfill scriptures.
20. Melech Shlomo said it very simply:
Baruch ,   Netanya, Israel   (03.03.14)
He also who is slack in his work Is brother to him who destroys. The desire of the sluggard puts him to death, For his hands refuse to work; All day long he is craving, While the righteous gives and does not hold back. Sh'ma Israel - May the Author of the Torah convict your hearts!
21. #18. Point taken
Tim ,   Brighton   (03.03.14)
But the idea that a Haredi claims special immunity from National Service for religious reasons that don't exist cant be right Consider what one of the Demonstrators said yesterday "We want to show that we are united and we want to stop a bad thing that they are trying to force us into. The army is not our way of life. It is not run by our rabbis," said 18-year-old Mordechai Seltzer. Have we got a thoroughly mixed up young man here He has two main objections - one that he is being coerced into doing something he doesn't want to do? What next...I don't like paying Taxes. The same reasoning should apply? And second - he will only defer to his Rabbi - so whats happened to the Rule of Law? As for National Service surely as you say everyone needs to play a part. Besides a moral obligation, it is an extremely important way of the whole country from all religions, all spectrums of orthodoxy and all walks of life to get together to show unity of purpose of all her citizens to protect and defend Israel from harm
22. Proverbs 28.9
Israeli-American Jew ,   Israel   (03.03.14)
23. ok I get it
frank ,   rehovot   (03.03.14)
you are lazy and want to live off the public dole by doing nothing and expecting the state (taxpayers) to foot the bill. But why are you guys Soooooo against going in the army? Is it the fact that you may have to actually do something? Is it paying your debt like a real citizen by giving back to the country? Why the violence against the army when you certainly have enough violence against anyone not like you...? Explain it to everyone maybe your explainations will turn things around and gain you more supporters.....
24. How freaking sad. Well, I guess...
Gideon Reader   (03.03.14)
...this completely blows a hole in the theory that ALL Jews are smart. So let them emigrate. And soon. Biblical Gideon reduced his numbers and only selected the best. Wheat sans chaff is the point.
25. Prayers did not protect during the Holocaust
Alfredo ,   Raanana   (03.03.14)
I know since I was there. These people are NOT religious or even Jews. They are lazy parasites hiding behind our beautiful Torah. "Religion" is indeed the last refuge of these scoundrels. By all means let them emigrate!
26. and no more state funding of any kind.
ralph   (03.03.14)
27. 17 , Israel don't WANT Israeli Arabs in the IDF !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.03.14)
We can't ask them to fight their "brothers" . So , try to know something before you write .
28. hareidi enlistment
lavi leider ,   jeru israel   (03.03.14)
