The IDF has never asked for Haredim to be drafted and would probably be happier NOT to be flooded with Haredim. If Lapid wanted everyone to share the burden, why has there been no mention of the 20% of Israelis who are Arabs? There are twice as many Arabs as Haredim, but no hint that they should share the burden in any form.

I think Israel should announce to everyone that bnei barak and Ultra Orthodox neighborhoods in Jerusalem will not longer be protected from terrorism, and let the Palestinians go nuts in those areas. When there has been conscription, as in the USA during Vietnam, all seminary and yeshivah students were given a '4D' deferment. From what I see the IDF does not want a flood of Haredim and this proposed law does not ask the 1,500,000 Israeli Arabs to enlist or to do any form of alternative service. Lapid wants to 'share the burden' with Haredim but not Israeli Arabs.

There should be a special unit in the IDF when there is a war the Ultra-Orthodox would go before the army with the Torah scrolls and sing before the Lord just like in the Torah. This would be the right way for them to fulfill scriptures.
