1. Separate religion from the state.
Edgar ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.03.14)
Until this is done Israel will never be free of all these spoiling influences on its development. One set of laws for all citizens however that irks so many, it will be the only way to a just and decent society.Nothing new here, probably wont happen and Israel will eventually decay away.
2. there is nothing shameful with marching...
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (03.03.14)
against Lapid. He does not represent the whole state. The liberal left always paradoxically wants to shut up those who disagree with them, all the while championing free speech.
3. Courageous and High Principled
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD, USA   (03.03.14)
and very atypical of Israeli government rabbis, whose historic job was to keep the religious in line - finally one finds government rabbis putting principles and morality ahead of political expediency. For someone involved with Israel's poltiical system, such courage is almost unheard of.
4. No.1, I agree. Israel will decay away.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (03.03.14)
The tax burden will only increase and many talented people will flee to greener pastures.
5. Because they are traitors and should be arrested

6. What gives Haredim the right...
Seth ,   Massachusetts, USA   (03.04.14)
...to be supported by those who are gainfully employed while they daven and debate and study? How is it they're absolved from all responsibility for shouidering the burden of service to the country that supports them? These rabbis are hypocrites not heroes. Let them give up their state salaries and THEN attack Israel. Then and only then will they have show some true adherence to whatever principles they claim are guidiing them.
7. Tax burden is nonsense...
Aaron ,   Bet Shemesh, Israel   (03.04.14)
The mean monthly wage in Israel is about 6K NIS. At that rate, a male pays very little income tax and a female with a couple of children pays no income tax. In contrast,, ALL consumer products, including most food items, have an 18% VAT tax that everyone pays. Gasoline is heavily taxed and everyone, secular and orthodox, pay the same price at the pump. So a large orthodox family will pay far more VAT than a modern secular Israeli family with two children, a cat, a dog and a budgerigar. Being gainfully employed in Israel doesn't necessarily translate into paying more income tax.
8. Chief Rabbis' role
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (03.04.14)
The objection to drafting religious girls goes back to the founding of the state and was endorsed by dozens of Gedolei HaDor. The view has not changed that girls should do alternative national service. Regarding the Chief Rabbinate disagreeing with a Govt law, it's not unusual for the Archbishops and other Anglican clergy to disagree with the govt bills in England. They are expected to express their views, and the Chief Rabbis' role is based on the two British Archbishops.

Yeshiva students received draft notices - A test of their loyalty ,... Get ready for more draft dodgers ;) ,...
10. Nobody cares about taxes or haredi employment nor burdens
Peter ,   Jerusalem   (04.04.14)
This fight is strictly ideological, against haredi just because they are haredi. Some in Israel wont stop until all of Israel looks like Tel Aviv. They wont say it in such terms so pretend to be concerned about the dirty yids spending "their precious" rather than the yids themselves.
