1. Flying through Israel is a privilege, not a right
(03.08.14)
if security procedures make you uncomfortable don't fly.
2. #1 get over yourself
Stuart ,   London   (03.08.14)
The security procedures are unnecessarily long and intrusive. The scanning I understand - and have no problem with. The random confiscations from luggage and endless questioning I do not agree with. I had to go through my photos on my camera once, I had my travel guide confiscated, I was told off for saying 'holiday' rather than 'vacation' - sorry. I'm not American so sometimes forget to speak US English!!! - and generally made to feel uncomfortable. I absolutely get the need for increased security and feel safer in Israel than anywhere else - but some of the harassment of foreigners needs to stop !!
3. Why is it so strange
Dani ,   TLV   (03.08.14)
That Arabs are more closely monitored than Jews, when considering that Israel is at war with many Arab states and 99% of all attacks against Israel have been perpetrated by Arabs? Does this make every Arab a terrorist? Of course not, but it does make the chance that an Arab is a danger to Israel more likely than a Jew is. Pure statistics. This is how it is done everywhere in the world and always. I realize a 2 hour delay for extensive questioning is uncomfortable to say the least for an average Arab-Israeli traveling through BGU. But considering the extreme threats facing Israel in general and the airport specifically, it is not strange at all. We can't afford to compromise on security because of some politically correct sentiment, because then we would face much bigger problems than a slight flight delay.
4. Airport security is always degrading
Peter ,   Jerusalem   (03.08.14)
Each time you are picked for extra screening you know you have no choice but to comply. Just do whatever they say. Remove your shoes, drop the toothpaste, answer the silly questions. Non compliance would only make it far worse. Its degrading because its not serious. When only a small percentage of travelers are questioned (say 5% of arabs) that still leaves a 95% chance for everyone to slip through security. If they were serious they would just check everyone's luggage and avoid the ridiculous random interrogations.
5. #3 Correct!
Jon ,   Jhb, South Africa   (03.08.14)
Your response is spot on! Thanks for saving me from having to write it myself.
6. so is flying to the US...
Cali Lib ,   Los Angeles, USA   (03.08.14)

7. Ever tried to talk to officials in
NU ,   Israel   (03.08.14)
US airports or were targeted for questioning for some minor problem there? Then I don't envy you.
8. A must and needed........
Calibi ,   Sydney Aust   (03.08.14)
Israeli airport security must be on the ball otherwise many jealous and evil elements will creep in like a deadly virus!
9. what Israeli law requires...
here in ,   Israel   (03.08.14)
that as I return home to Israel I present any other passport I may or may-not hold. I am tired of arguing with Israeli security on this point...so please do explain to me: If I am entering Israel, then why do I need to present any other passport other than my Israeli one? (and two those who are wondering: I am a Jewish Israeli but then why does that even matter...if I am Israeli, doesn't really matter what subgroup I fall into -- which is all to say I am so tired of all of the RUDE PEOPLE working security and telling me what is best for me when they can't tell their belly buttons from the holes in their shirts! end of rant thank you for reading.
10. Airport Security = The Stern Gang!
a learned Jew ,   Israel   (03.08.14)
11. Liberal critics can stuff their profiling where the sun
frank ,   rehovot   (03.08.14)
doesn't shine. I care about safety. While not all arabs are terrorists the fact is most of the terrorists are. So liberals and their "well-meaning" attitude can simply stuff it. Continue to protect us regardless of "perceived offense"....safety outweighs hurting someone's feelings...
12. BWAAAA
Cindy ,   TA Israel   (03.08.14)
Do I hear someone crying? Get over yourself!!! Is good as it is. We should thank Airport Security instead of moaning. Good Job!!
13. #11 THANK YOU FRANK ,WELL SAID
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (03.08.14)
Sensitivities and sensibilities are simply unimportant . What truly matters is protecting lives of innocent passengers. And no other nation can protect like Israel can .
14. IT IS OBVIOUS : IF YOU ARE INNOCENT
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (03.08.14)
If you are innocent and have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about when being asked a few innocuous questions by the wonderful security personel at Tel-aviv Ben -Gurion airport.
15.  KEEP UP DA GOOD WORK
DA RAP ARTIST ,   SAFED RAP HOUSE   (03.08.14)
to Israeli security personnel : I love you and have the deepest respect and admiration and appreciation for the wonderful work you all do each and every day .You have protected and saved countless thousands of lives .Please ignore the ignorant critics .KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ....and may Hashem bless you always ,le tamid.
16. #2 MALAYSIAN PLANE BLOWN UP
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OBVIOUS   (03.08.14)
Today ,a malaysian passenger jet simply disappeared .This implies terrorism , i.e. a bomb. It is infinitely and immeasurably preferable to endure a few minutes inconvenience Ben -Gurion style than to heaven forbid lose lives. Israelis pionereed airline security and they are the absolute masters of security and they clearly know what they are doing .Don't like it ,so don't travel.
17. CONFUCIUS SAYS : IF IT AINT BROKE
CONFUCIUS ,   SAFED CHINA   (03.08.14)
" If it aint broken ,don't fix it " Israeli security is the best on the planet and works superbly. Today ,an aircraft full of passengers heading to my homeland China was blown out of the sky . Long live israeli techniques including profiling when necessary.
18. DEBATES SHMEBATES
MR CYNIC ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (03.08.14)
Just continue doing the fine security work you are doing.
19. O boo hoo hoo
Leon   (03.08.14)
AP is an anti-semitic organization - so why carry their stories in an Israeli newspaper?
20.  MARK MY WORDS :
MARK MYWORDS ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (03.08.14)
Without the outstanding work performed by the wonderful security people at Ben-Gurion airport ,none of us ,I repeat NONE OF US would feel happy entering an airplane.
21. SECURITY= A NECESSARY EVIL
CONFUCIUS ,   SAFED CHINA   (03.08.14)
The LESSER of the evils...or do you prefer Death and Destruction ?
22. " JOURNALISTS ARE A TARGET "
ALBERTO EINSTEIN ,   SAFED GENIUS HOUSE   (03.08.14)
It does not take a genius to see and to state that many journalists are hostile towards Israel and therefore could be regarded as a ptential threat .Not nice..... but true.
23. # 3 Not strange at all. Dani thank you well said.
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.08.14)
MORE HOMES FOR MORE JEWS !!!
24. INCONVENIENCED IN AIRPORT ?
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (03.08.14)
Please go blame the Terrorists...do not dare blame israeli security for your inconvenience.
25. #9, you must be a nasty provocateur
israeli and foreign ,   passports holder   (03.08.14)
I travel frequently to Israel entering with my Israeli passport and was never ever required to present my foreign passports. You must belong to Leftist or foreign NGO's hostile to Israel and they want to check if you travel to enemy countries as your friends do. You are unhappy because you want to hide your unlawful activities.
26. Go Figure
james ,   ny ny   (03.08.14)
Why don't we ask the poor souls who flew on 911 into the trade towers or blown up over the skys of Scotland how they would feel about being inconvenient at airport, security? To many liberals or journalists with short term memories.
27. SOME PERSPECTIVE :
A SPADE A SPADE ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (03.08.14)
Its is precisely one hundred years sinece the beginning of WW1 and today WW3 is about to erupt in Ukraine but what is the pressing issue of today? a few questions asked by security staff at Ben-gurion airport. As for Sky news journalists ,a.k.a anti-semites ,being detained...I will go and fetch my violin.
28. "Stern" airport security
Joe S. ,   Toronto, Canada   (03.08.14)
#10. Lehi or "the stern gang" as the Brits liked to call them were a fiercely dedicated, professional and effective organization. You pay Israeli border security officers a huge compliment in your short comment on the studious work they do 24/7. I sometimes sail right through security at BG. At other times I have been held up at secondary screening, for as much as two hours. Millions of travelers arrive and leave Israel safely each year. I count myself among those millions. I do not fault border security for doing their jobs in a manner that they see fit. I will certainly continue to travel to Israel, with my only worry, as to whether my luggage arrives at my destination with me. Just sign me, "Another learned Jew."
29. Arab Roulet
Ron ,   oc us   (03.08.14)
Israel simply can not afford mistakes concerning airport security. Who can argue better to be inconvenienced than dead.
30. Israeli security
El gato ,   USA   (03.08.14)
Good for Israel! You may be assured that if you fly out of Israel, you will never be on a plane with a terrorist. It's probably the place most likely to be targeted by the muslim rats, and it also the place least likely for the swine to succeed!
