1. Does this come as a surprise?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.11.14)
It shouldn't. The West is falling all over itself in its rush to be duped by what Netanyahu rightly calls Iran's "charm offensive." They really hate the fact that their foolish optimism has been exposed for what it is. So much easier to ignore the truth than actually having to deal with reality. The Arabs know better; especially the Kingdom and the Gulf States, where Iran has been busy attempting to destabilize and sow internal dissension since 1979. They know exactly what they're dealing with in terms of the Islamic Republic. Geopolitics makes for strange bedfellows. Everyone knows that Israel has a standing invite from the Saudis to use Saudi air space and refueling facilities, should the need arise.
2. Why the surprise?
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (03.11.14)
The West is scrambling to get out of Afghanistan as quickly as possible. To do so requires toe co-operation of Iran. A few missiles and bullets on the way to the Sinai is not sufficient to risk endangering Iranian co-operation.
3. Arabs right to be alarmed
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (03.11.14)
The assumption is that these missiles were being sent to threaten Israel. That's reasonable, but missiles can be fired in other directions, too. Had they got into the Sinai, the anti-Egypt government terrorists there could as well have fired then at Sinai tourist resorts and Suez Canal cities as at Eilat. How do we know that this isn't ex-president Morsi's friends, the Iran regime, coming to his rescue? Maybe Israel has come to Sisi's rescue. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
4. I'm not surprised....
Toledano Jean-Pierre ,   Israel   (03.12.14)
Since more than 20 years also the West turned slowly their sympathy for Israel towards an anti Zionism. Not only the USSR, extreme right or left groups,.... but also the so-called social democratic parties. Believe me, that anti Zionism was the shield to hide away their real way of thinking: a reborn anti semitism. They are using it - anti Zionism - to go behind or to join the Arabic Islamic attitude against Jewry and Israel. So, their media, who are most of the time supporting the left political side, are not showing the facts, like in this case the transport of weaponry from Iran to Gaza, but try to minimize or to ignore it.. Believe me, I was a long time living abroad to understand it and to see the restart of that anti Semitism.
5. The Guardian and the Indendant are antiIsrael in the extreme
James McNamara ,   Dublin Ireland   (03.12.14)
The Guardian is one of worst Anti-Semitic websites on earth...It employs anyone who hates smears and writes lies about Israel...A sick and nasty racist rag.........
6. I too checked the NY Times to see how they were covering it
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.14.14)
On Sunday I checked their website's Front Page and World sections for anything related to the seizure. Nothing. I checked again on Monday. I found only a syndicated Associated Press story about the weapons in Eilat in the Middle East section, but nothing by the Times' own reporters. Finally on Tuesday I found a report by the Times' own Kirshner. Many reporters in Israel were invited down to Eilat in planes chartered for their benefit. Few showed up. They've got their story (about Israel) and apparently they're sticking to it.
