The image of theJew as a warrior Returned and was Reinforced. The Jews in Poland never were given the Oppurtunity in Poland of Rising to top levels or even being trained well with constant insults and Mockery with some exceptions. There were great Partisans who lived off the land and did courageous acts but only in the Jewish state Were the generations of Chiefs of Staff And Elite Troops.
4. Ironic and Absurd
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (03.16.14)
In 2007 while I was attending a class of Hebrew language here in Jerusalem I asked the young Israeli teacher : Q. Adoni , who was Menachem Begin ? And my Hebrew-language teacher replied promptly : A Terrorist ... ! I simply find it puzzling and impossible to understand how Israel views its soldiers who kill Arab civilians and destroy civilian targets as heroes while it calls Palestinians terrorists for attacking similar targets ... One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter , and one man's meat is another man's poison... Terminology is in the eye of the viewer ...

They may have done things which would not be approved of today, but they saved the nation and the people. Times change, actions change, behaviour changes, but heroism remains for all time. Giborei Yisrael will be remembered.
7. Mr. Haver
Hertzel ,   Tveria   (03.16.14)
You did not need to finish this decent article not great but decent, with you leftist agenda ! You do not reach man to his knees in how History will remember.... He was a BIBLICAL LEVEL FIGHTER, the likes of Joshua, Jonathan, Devora and Barak, and that is how history will remember him, for his GREATNESS !
8. Haber is asking the wrong question
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.17.14)
History will remember Meir Har-Zion, z"l, as the true hero of Israel that he was. History won't remember Eitan Haber at all. I mean, really. Har-Zion did the tough and necessary work. Haber wrote for B'Mahane. Jobnik.

Godbless you Mr. Har-Zion, Mr. Sharon, Mr. Eitan and all the epic fighters of the nascent Israeli Defense Forces. You fought so that we may live, that ensuing generations might grow up in a secure Jewish state in peace, prosperity and self reliance. I will carry your memories with me until that day when I too pass. Kol hakavod!
13. to #4 arabs never used the term "terrorist" before the 90's
ghostq   (03.17.14)
many of their terminology they borowed from the Israeli narative. As for Menachem Begin, He targeted only public bodies and not civilians. Unlike palestinians that target Israeli civilians the last was in jerusalem two weeks ago, the guy wanted to use gaz baloons to explode people in their apartments.
14. To #4 - Let me educate you
Erich   (03.17.14)
There are two ways to judge a terrorist, one by whom he targets and the other by whether he uses terror as a means or as an end. Arafat was a terrorist because he targeted civilians and even when he achieved political power continued to use terror to advance his agenda. Begin was not a terrorist because he targeted the British security apparatus and once the State was declared he chose the ballet box over bombs.
15. thank you Mr Haber for a solid tribute to a hero of ...
Rafi ,   US   (03.17.14)
.... a forgotten and under-appreciated generation.
16. They were Israelis. Being Jewish didn't matter.
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.17.14)
They left behind them a world in which Israel exists and thrives. It is so because they were willing to give their lives for it. They were "true believers" and only true believers shape history.
17. Hebron massacre, a war crime, invading Arabs responsible
