1. Save Israel from its corrupt monopolies
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (03.23.14)
I want to hear Diskin talk about breaking up the Israel Electric Co. monopoly. I want to hear him talk about seriously reducing auto import taxes. I want to hear him talk about reducing food prices. OTHERWISE I DO NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHAT HE HAS TO SAY.
2. Absolutely true
mea   (03.23.14)
3. It is up to Israel's citizens.
A.C.Guard ,   USA   (03.23.14)
If Israel adheres to 1-11 it will be wiped off the face of the earth in no time. Politicians in every country become corrupt after several terms in office and it is up to voters to make sure they are removed. Israel lives in an area of the world where she is hated and trying to be the most moral country is not an option.
4. Separate state from religion
Miri ,   Holon   (03.23.14)
Increasingly we are seeing religious corruption and immorality of the lowest forms from these so called rabbis, who stand on their soap boxes preaching " i am holier than thou" while at the same time robbing the state blind, inciting there bunch of brainless sheep not to serve in the army or to work. Take Shas for example a party that includes convicted criminals all in the name of God. Time to separate state from religion and end the power of these corrupt people
5. Bravo! Israel needs courageous leaders like Y. Diskin!
Rafi ,   US   (03.23.14)
6. nice article but a bit too vague
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (03.23.14)
we really need to research what causes people to be polarized to extremist camps and not able to think clearly through issues.
7. Almost Accurate
Dr. Daniel Keren ,   Tel Aviv   (03.23.14)
While I full agree that most of what you describe here is true I disagree that nothing is happening about it. What Mr. Diskin laid out as a plan for what needs to be done is essentially the platform of Yesh Atid which the silent majority have 19 mandates. Since the, in the first year in the government Yesh Atid worked hard for so many reforms in the areas of fiscal responsibility, equal sharing of the national burden, reforms aimed at reducing cost of living, electoral reform, reforms that help the weakest sectors of Israeli society. In short completely agree with what needs to be done, and am happy that things ARE being done now by Yesh Atid and those who partner in the great work of making Israel the great nation she is destined to be!
8. great article
Arkadiy ,   new York   (03.23.14)
to read this article was inspiring. if we are trully a people we should defend what is most holy to us: our history and future. our history I mean our fathers memory and experience. our future is our children living a secure happy life. Israel must and should keep its status as a democratic and Jewish state. yes the world is jealous. yes we will never have true peace with every country. but.we must strive to be better people tooourselves and others. long live the state of israel.
9. my country
judy ,   jlm israel   (03.23.14)
At last a sane voice...?! I hope
10. Saving Israel from its corrupt Lawyers
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (03.23.14)
Saving Israel from its corrupt lawyers would make the better start., because charlatans like Pinto will always be with us. I know a case of a Partner at BDO Stoy Hayward who in 1992 was intent on persuading his hassidic property clients to defraud the banks and tax authorities, of £millions by declaring bankruptcy so he guaranteed them a payment of X£m and made better fees because he got them a bracha from such a seer charlatan. The phone calls from Golders Green to Israel were High Drama fir for an Opera! Sodom & Gomorrah laws might well have been fine if not for the loopholes built into them. Israel seems to inherit that pattern and the lawyers play the major part exploiting those loopholes. Stop lawyers corruption and Israel will be cleaner place
11. Ideals...
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (03.23.14)
The proposals in this article would make a very good substance of another book of Utopia , a book that would rival Plato's book " The Republic " ... Corruption is everywhere , and corruption is an inherent part of our life because " power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely " ... In the end either we join the current tide that prevails ( for the sake of survival ) or we would be lost in oblivion...
12. No doubt
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.23.14)
No doubt in my mind that Yuval Diskin is correct in his criticisms of today's political scene. At the same time, as a cynic I doubt the possibility of change and improvement. Today a member of the silent majority, I once was an idealist. For many years I believed and fought for change, for improvement, for light. The years have sadly proven to me that it is almost impossible to achieve. Regretfully I see Diskin's 11 point Guideline as an unattainable dream of Utopia today. Thanks for the article. Wish I could be as optimistic as Yuval Diskin in the belief that it is attainable...
13. Maybe He's Right, but This Shouldn't Be Coming from Diskin
EGGM ,   Petah Tikva, Israel   (03.23.14)
Diskin makes a lot of good points, and he might be absolutely right (except on the silly notion that Bayit Yehudi is ruled by Lieberman, hopefully it's a translation oversight). The notion that senior ministers decide our national security based on the advice of shady rabbis is indeed scary, and should be investigated. However, the fact that this comes from Diskin is no less of a problem. Diskin was privy to our state's most valuable secrets, and there's a very big problem when someone like that, who is supposed to be beyond politics and act in the interests of the state, speaks out on political issues. Morevoer, Diskin headed one of the 2–3 organizations in Israel that are more secretive, less transparent and more shady than the rabbinate and the general rabbinical establishment. The Shabak might be running perfectly and saving lives every day, but it might also be manned by corrupt opportunists with no real direction—we might never know. Therefore coming from Diskin these assertions are problematic to say the least. What he should do if he really cares is to find like-minded individuals in the group that's already privy to the state's secrets (e.g. senior government and security establishment members) and work from there to make the issue known in that circle so that the problematic ministers are ostracized. Eventually it would leak to the public anyway, but not directly from Diskin.
14. Diskin is a idiot
Bill Stein ,   USA   (03.23.14)
Diskin is a idiot
15. mr. diskin is a part of the problem
Daniel ,   TA - IL   (03.23.14)
As a former head of the shabac. please practice what you preach.... if not save us your empty words. The shabac has proven itself to be an antidemocratic organization that is filled with extremist leftwingers that did everything to help demonize those opposed to the leftwing judical elites - you know the same courts aiding the tycoons to stay rich and us poor
16. Opinion Y. Diskin
Norman D Kauffman ,   Ashdod Israel   (03.23.14)
I find the comments of Mr Y Diskin correct in his blog re Opinion and as an Israeli citizen for only five years these reflect my own feelings now finding my way in life in Israel. I came here from England which has similar problems. N. Kauffman
17. ACCOUNTABILITY!
AlanM ,   Israel   (03.23.14)
Great article. I agree 100%. Only when those in power are accountable for their actions will there be any change. And the only way to remedy this is to change the whole system of election of MK's and other public officials.
18. HE SET UP AMIR
dave ,   safet israel   (03.23.14)
and was in on the coverup up of rabin assasination, could be he was in on the actual shootings: inside car and hostipal.
19. I dont understand Pinto is a religious man
Haim   (03.23.14)
How can he be corrupt he is a rabbi, part of the religious morality they teach?
20. right and wrong
(03.23.14)
Diskin is right that Israel's problem is corrupt politicians, but he points at the wrong people. Israel's last 100% honest politician was Shamir. Since then, Israel has been plagued by thoroughly corrupt politicians who have pushed Israel to implement the Leftist fantasies that have brought the country to the brink of destruction. A partial list includes Rabin and Peres (gave bribes to Deri and Goldfarb), Deri, Goldfarb, Barak, Herzog, Olmert and Sharon. Of course there are a host of others, all who are suspect of corruption, but the evidence isn't out yet.
21. Diskin
Sam Turecki ,   Raanana   (03.23.14)
"the opportunism that serves the "now-ism" culture that has spread amongst us." Excuse me Mr. Diskin if you saw all this around you as head of "ShabaK' why did you the great moralist not resign ??? Maybe you don't see yourself as a "now -ist"
22. COUNT ME IN!
EM ,   Ra'anana   (03.23.14)
23. I agree. Thank you.
cfspirit ,   Fr and Dz   (03.23.14)
24. OK, so now we know
Zvika ,   Jerusalem   (03.23.14)
"The religious Jews are our misfortune!" Not the high cost of living. Makes sense, doesn't it?
25. Been there...done that!
Ira G.   (03.23.14)
Since 1977 the Israeli public has sought out the middle ground. Of all the movements since Yadin, also a crook, the only one to have had some success is Lapid. He's nudging us forward at least. The real progress will only be made when we reduce the Knesset to 2 or 3 parties, or create local representation.
26. Save Israel from the Bolsheviks like Diskin
Johnny ,   TA, Israel   (03.23.14)
Diskin is just another power hungry idiot who has a big mouth, is irresponsible and should never be trusted.
27.  The only response
Raptor   (03.23.14)
That the sane majority was capable of was the cottage cheese protests in Rothschild Blvd. This was feeble nonsense. A revolution is what is required. A real revolution by the people and for the people. No change will every come from those riding the gravy train.
28. It is not a nation.....
HIstory nut ,   Israel   (03.23.14)
and aren't being occupied and they have no regard for human life. He has dropped into a moraless abyss. Unity? Without morals?
29. Diskin? He is representating the minority!
israeli ,   jerusalem   (03.23.14)
30. The real question is,how can the ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.23.14)
State of Israel, keep a honest well-intentioned politician who gets power, clean from corruption? How does separating Religion from State, as many promote ,solve this problem?
