4. Zionist but want to live abroad
Mark ,   Beit Shemesh   (03.26.14)
The fact that 26% of haredim say they're zionist made the headline, but what about the 23% of seculars who would rather live abroad? They get all the points for being "zionist", but almost a quarter of them wish they didn't live here!!! Would be interesting to know what % of haredim would rather live elsewhere. I'd bet its a lot less than 23%. Funny that that statistic was not published. The concept of zionism has become a joke and is currently just a euphimism for "not haredi".
5. Hareidim are anti-zionist
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore   (03.26.14)
75% of hareidi youth oppose the state, and half of those who support the state in theory are unwilling to lift a finger to defend it. Some who opposes the State of Israel on halachic grounds is a conscientious objector, and if drafted is a security risk. -- On the other hand, the 75% of hareidim who are anti-zionist could lead the way in making peace since they are able to agree to the Arab demands for an end to the zionist state.
6. if army is serious they will make hareidi

generals. That's the only way to get the Rabbis to agree to induct students. They will never agree to serve under secular leaders.
7. NOT TRUE. Only 1/4% haredim who see themselves as Zionist
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.26.14)
not one quarter of haredim see themselves as Zionists. Unless you're referring to Nahal Haredi who are not haredim in any case. In other words, this entire report is nothing but baloney.

Sure they are, where else can you live off the state , without contributing a shekel and dodge the national draft. No wonder, time they got off their holy backsides and got a job and served in the army.
10. #4 why would Haredis leave if they can leech off the state w
avi ,   jerusalem, israel   (03.26.14)
#4 why would Haredis leave if they can leech off the state without working here? Which foreign government would they be able to leech from? And ur manipulation of numbers is interesting: the right comparison is 23% that want to live abroad (many of whom may want to take a year off overseas, perhaps a couple years, what's wrong with that?) against 75% of Haredim who do not consider themselves religious. But that's not a comparison you want to make.

12. 99.87% of Haredi youth are Zionists..., since Zionism is
N.L.Katz ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.26.14)
first and foremost the strong affinity of Jews to Zion, also known as Jerusalem, and the country in the midst of which Zion is located. This sense has been among us, Jews, since our king, King David, set up Zion/Jerusalem as the spiritual and administrative center of the kingdom, more than 3,000 years ago.

16. Re haredim, seculars and zionism.
S Judah ,   jerusalem   (03.26.14)
These results show that there is no secular majority in Israel, there is a traditional majority. Those who are totally irreligious insist on including the traditional to pretend they have a majority. Well they don’t The majority of Haredim are not against the existence of the state, they are for a state that gives primacy to halacha / religious law. If you are a religious observant Jew how could you expect otherwise. But when there is a traditional majority who have one foot in the religious camp and the other in the secular camp, that’s not practical and that’s where problem arise. Zionism is actually a meaningless term in that everyone can understand it to mean what they want. Trust me the haredim yearn for a return to zion. They will not acknowledge being Zionists because the word has political and secular connotations. And with regard to the army, the haredim in general have a great respect for the army, however they genuinely believe that torah learning is even more important. They also accept that those how are not studying should serve. Of course this is open to abuse and we who are not haredim may think otherwise. However the Lapid-Bennett is not the answer
17. Maths problem ?
Akiva ,   NYC   (03.26.14)
From the figures listed of how they would vote, it appears only 46% would vote. Is something missing? For Haredim, the Hazon Ish rule that it was a duty to vote and this opinion is one basis of Agudath Israel and Degel Hatorah as political parties.
18. Haredim and Zionism
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (03.26.14)
The First Zionist Congress included Haredim like Rav Shepsel Shaffer of Baltimore, but subsequent generations of Zionists were accused of trying to replace Judaism with Jewish Nationalism, and Haredi groups rejected this form of Zionism. In Israel today Haredi extremists refuse any govt money but most Haredim are represented in the Knesst by UTJ and Shas. Today most Haredim speak Ivrit and most schools follow govt requirements.
