1. Chofetz Chaim
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (03.30.14)
In addition to Mishneh Brurah, the Chofez Chaim also published Machanai Yisrael, a guide for Jewish soldiers in European armies on how to minimise violations of Halacha.
2. Look! at what Father has done,
Erin ,   USA   (03.30.14)
What a great and marvelous thing! Look at how Great and Mighty is our G_d, Great and Marvelous is He; Blessed be His Name!
3. "Difficulties of CATERING to haredi soldiers""
Racheal ,   Dallas   (03.30.14)
Ah, the subtleties of language. Biased reporting that no one notices, but enters the mind like a parasite. Why not say "Difficulties of integrating" or "assimilating"? Why be demeaning when perfectly good, objective alternatives are available?
4. You really aren't serious?
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore   (03.30.14)
Since halacha prohibits benefiting or helping another Jew do something illegal, these rules would have to apply to all Jews in the IDF. And the army has largely ignored its own regulations on halacha for the last 65 years. And if they manage to draft real hareidim, they'll have to address the issue of whether it is permitted to spill Arab blood since by the hareidi interpretation of halacha the zionists are attackers, the Arabs are acting in self-defense, and by halacha the attacker is required to withdraw rather than injure the person being attacked (though it is unlikely that any real hareidim will ever enter the army).
5. Cold showers are a non-toxic way to bring down high blood
Rivkah   (03.30.14)
pressure and should be routine for those with high blood pressure since the medicines are so toxic, in addition to drinking more purified water. Proverbs 30:4,5 says Elohim has a Name and He has a Son and His Son has a Name. I believe the name is Yahoshua. Rabbi Yahoshua said it is all right to do good on the Shabbat. That means the military and hospitals and police cannot shut down or be less vigilent on the Shabbat. But those who can observe the Shabbat in Scriptural ways should do so since that, too, is a protection for the nation and the family and is a door to Shalom Peace in one's heart and soul and mind and body.
6. Violate Shabath to exercise should ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.30.14)
not be demanded. In war time it is permissible.
7. Let the IDF follow
Moshe   (03.30.14)
G-d's 10 commandments the way G-d wants it, and there will be no need for new 10 Commandments. #1 Filth and immorality, part of the 10 commandments, is a big no-no for any Jew, certainly in the army. Until then, the haredim will not part of the IDF and have no plans of ever being. Those "haredim" in Netzah Yehuda are not exactly the "haredim" Lapid and Bennett are going after. Haredim Rabbis will never allow haredim to join the secular army.
8. Want to make Haredi Rabbis laugh
Anonymous   (03.30.14)
show them this list. If anyone still believes that Haredim will join an army that make up their own Jewish laws, should immediately be taken to a mental assylum. Too bad it wasn't out before Purim.
9. Rabbis control Jews, and Torah, play middleman to God, Earth
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (03.31.14)
10. #7, "Survive" is Commandment #1.
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.31.14)
Survival is the first thing on people minds. Even when it was necessary to march through FILTH in sewer canals under the ground in the Warsaw Ghetto. Even when it took IMMORALITY for street walkers in the Warsaw Ghetto to earn a piece of bread and feed their starving children. Filth and immorality are fine if they serve survival, even for well placed people like you, so get out and serve.
11. Liberal Israel
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Haifa   (03.31.14)
So what is liberal about that? What you want is a Halachic state now don't you? So why not make it a completely Halachic state then?
12. Can the Goverment and IDF
Tim ,   Brighton   (03.31.14)
Sharpen up its Recruitment Message to the Israeli Haredim and Israeli Arab Communities? An Israeli Arab student said to me last week We need a series of 'Road Shows' coming into Communities so that recruits and their families can see for themselves As for the old messages of 'unity of purpose' 'obligations' etc from the Government and IDF they don't seem to strike much of a chord We have to turn JFKs famous declaration on its head The IDF needs to tell us - whether Israeli Haredim or Israeli Arab - not what we can do for them but what the IDF can do for us Where we can develop precious life and technical skills, team spirit, maturity and improve our potential and job opportunities Watch the way the UK Military promote voluntary recruitment in this polished way on TV ....theres a lot we can learn
13. #10: Gotta' tell you man
HH ,   Jerusalem   (03.31.14)
Your exhortations from California to "get out and serve" really ring forth with truth and justice. Anyway, the filth referred to by #7 was most likely promiscuity between the sexes for non-military reasons . . .
14. The Army of Israel is the only thing that will stop
Al   (03.31.14)
the barbarians from slaughtering the Jews in Israel. Its high time that all able bodied Jews in Israel help defend the country. If my younger kid who was born in Canada can do it so can they. My younger kid sports payos down to his shoulders and a beard to boot. That does not interfere with his duties as a tank commander. I pray for him and his fellow soldiers every single day, by reciting the Shema, although I am very far from being religious at all.
15. #14 Dear Al
Harold G. ,   USA   (03.31.14)
see #`13's comment. Just substitute Canada for California. Sheesh, you guys!!!
