1. Makes questionable assumptions.
Sam ,   Canada   (04.07.14)
Ayalon assumes that 1) Palestinians will accept only Arab neighbourhoods of Jerusalem or that this is acceptable with Israelis. 2) Assumes that Palestinians will accept a right of return into West Bank only 3) Assumes Israel will accept security arrangements. All talks appear to start with assumptions that never materialize. The biggest one is that Palestinians will agree to live next to a Jewish majority Israel.
2. How long and after how much damage
Rodney ,   CT. SA.   (04.07.14)
is it going to take for these pathetic Israeli politicians to understand and realise that you cannot, under any circumstances negotiate with terrorists who lie through their teeth and want nothing else but Israel's annihilation????????? FOR PETE'S SAKE WAKE UP ISRAEL.
3. Yes,yes:talk, for God's sake talk as much as possible&BUILD!
tom ,   tel aviv   (04.07.14)
4. Israeli-Palestinian Peace
henry ,   Manila   (04.07.14)
5. No mention of Iran.
Michael Pielet ,   Israel   (04.07.14)
Ami ignores the day after when the arab terrorist state he created in Judea and Samaria aligned with the Islamic terrorist state of Iran starts attacking Israel, by air, land and sea. Ami is delusional.
6. another fsb agent
geof mordecai spiro ,   ebay, israel   (04.07.14)
When is the west going to realize that most Nazis like abbas are on putins' payroll?
7. I wouldn't trust ayalon if my life depended on it
jerold   (04.07.14)
ex military guys make lousy political leaders who have no soverighn feel for the state-examples mitzna and barak. i wouldn't take ayalon's advice period. H is like oz,burg and tom friedman who thinks they can make shangrila peace with arabs.
8. ayalon's proposals are worthless
hy   (04.07.14)
nothing ayalon says changes the arabs goal of eliminating the jewish state. In fact, not annexing the west bank increases the likelihood of israel survivning. Who did egypt make peace with-begin- a no nonsense israeli nationalist. Who did they make war with- rabin, eshkol of labour, the party of people like ayalon who offer concessions and formulae that might be ok for switzerland but not in the middle east which has no mercy for the weak concession offering people like ayalon, herzog and livni. Ayalon's proposals are worthless garbage.
9. Israeli-Palestinian Peace
Henry ,   Manila   (04.07.14)
So much in the pursuit of peace is so much easier said than done. Those who think they know how gain it are the least qualified to pursue it. Peace with Muslims can be gained only when they have a pressing need for you or for something that you have.
10. "Two tracks" Tango...talks, unilateral moves, is progress
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (04.07.14)
PA, Israel, unilateral moves will force all issues to the surface...ICC war crimes charges, annexation of Area C, BDS all of Israel, unilateral borders, Obama UNSC '67 borders, land and populations transfers. Unilateral moves create new "starting points" for negotiations, with PA and World on one side, Israel and US Congress on other side. This is progress, Staus Quo is over.
11. No one in Israel has the power
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (04.07.14)
or the will to take on the settlers and stove the settlement movement in its tracks. The reality is the settlers have won and not a single "leader" will do what is necessary. This is all just a pipe dream that ignores who really controls Israel - The delusional Greater Israel nut cases. Israel was foolish to even start the settler movement and now has now power or political will to stop it.
12. good analysis of the present problem, but a bad solution
Robert ,   USA   (04.07.14)
The solution proposed is not really a solution, more a continuation of the same failed process. To me, the most logical solution is the one-state solution WITHOUT a right of return and with the one-state Israel being "A national homeland for the Jews" and not a "A Jewish State" (which just sounds awful to the rest of the world).
13. Israel must change the structure of the peace process
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USA   (04.07.14)
How long will it take for these delusional people to understand that the failure was caused by the fact that the Moslem is and alway was the eimination of Israel. Thus, there is no way the talks can succeed.
14. Before all else, the PLO ought to retrieve its applications
Yael ,   Kibbutz Dan   (04.07.14)
to various international treaties. This and only this act will demonstrate to us that the Arabs are actually interested in the pursuing a peace treaty.
15. It was ridiculous at the start
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (04.07.14)
To establish some artificial deadline to a Agreement as if that was a line in the sand There IS no deadline Artificial deadlines create haste, misunderstanding and lead to reckless and careless decisions Yes the process is and will take long...but we never expected instant results And to all intents and purposes IN ANY CASE MOST issues are close to being resolved...
16. Peace Process
James Rodgers ,   Chicago   (04.07.14)
Peace is not a "process". Peace is a noun, not a process. It is the opposite of war. There is no war . There is nothing but the deliberate slow motion expulsion and oppression of an indigenous population. Why continue to use the words when they defeat your purpose. It only works for the latter day Joshuas bent on conquest who subscribe to the stupid ideology that they have a land grant and license from God. Dumb.
17. More B.S. from an infallibly wrong leftist.
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.07.14)
One can always count on two things from Ami Ayalon and other leftists of his ilk. Firstly, they are always smug and sure they are correct. Secondly, they offer nothing but the same warmed over infallibly wrong Oslo type leftist B.S. they've been dishing out for decades. Which beings Israel nothing but disaster.
18. Ami Ayalon = Cowand or Nutjob?
Brett ,   Florida   (04.07.14)
How many times do you have to hear the muslims say you do not belong on "their" land? And yet you think of and speak about peace? If they say there will never be peace with Jews, BELIEVE THEM! People like you have given legitimacy to an already beaten foe that makes demands to the victors. I can understand the anti-Semite world thinking like that in their collective hearts, but I will never understand Jews like you that want to rush to certain destruction. Cowand or Nutjob?
19. Stupidest Idea Yet
A SIMPLE JEW ,   Beer Sheva   (04.07.14)
Ayalon's insane proposal represents the ultimate degeneration of leftist ideology. He proposes a "preemptive surrender" to no one, for no reason, with a guarantee the Arabs will reject it. (That is why his surrender is unilateral). Ayalon thus proposes to provoke a Jewish civil war by engaging in a mass expulsion of our most loyal citizens in exchange for precisely nothing from our enemies. Who is paying Ayalon for this article?
20. War injury.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (04.07.14)
Ami was on the famous Green Island raid in 1969. The raid was successful, unfortunately Ami was hit in the head by an Egyptian rifle butt. Ami's brain because of the injury has atrophied.
21. The False Pretense...
Lynx ,   Palestine   (04.07.14)
The False Pretense is that Israelis think that while they "talk" some more to Palestine, they can simultaneously create more facts on the ground and even go as far as demolishing Palestinian homes and expelling Palestinian citizens from their own lands. That was the status quo, which is fast collapsing. Palestine will head to the international organizations for recognition and seek sanctions on Israel until it vacates all the territories it occupied in 1967 in a war of expansion disguised as a pre-preemptive strike. Failure to comply will further push Israel to the status of total pariah..i.e..a North Korea.
22. Israeli Majority Rule ... Kudos!
Jersey Jew ,   New Jersey, USA   (04.07.14)
"The majority of the public in Israel is familiar with the principles of the future agreement: Border lines based on the 1967 lines with a land swap; Palestinian refugees will return to Palestine only; security arrangements Israel is okay with, as well as the presence of international forces and a gradual IDF withdrawal after the agreement is signed; keeping Jerusalem's Jewish neighborhoods under Israeli sovereignty and the Arab neighborhoods under Palestinian sovereignty; and freedom of access and worship in the holy sites."
23. What stupidity.arobs will never give peace in 1000 years
Moshe ,   Usa   (04.08.14)
24. Possibly
R ,   Israel   (04.08.14)
Everyone criticizes, but at least Ayalon presents a possible, pragmatic path. Nothing else is working, and the status quo won't work forever.
25. The majority of the public in Israel is familiar with the pr
Joel Weller ,   Rehovot   (04.08.14)
Just one tiny problem. Barak proposed this to Arafat at Camp David, and Arafat's response was the second Intifada. What the hell are you leftist drinking?
26. Negotiations in Left Double Speak: Unilateral surrender
Johnny ,   TA, Israel   (04.08.14)
They don't want peace. Just to commit suicide by endangering our security.
27. #24. Status quo infinitely better than "peace deal" with P.A
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.08.14)
Under the status quo Israel has Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, defensible borders, freedom from constant rocket attacks, freedom from inundation by hostile Arabs. Israel would lose EVERYTHING in a "peace deal" with the P.A.
28. I liked very much the article above ....
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (04.09.14)
as a true friend of Israel and of Jewish people as a whole. Despite of bad attitudes from Arab Palestine leaderships, J'lem's government must negociate, with firmness and pacience, till a fair and honoured agreement becomes real. Don't give up, brothers and sisters. Your good principles will prevail at all.
29. different structure for a different reality
Zsolt ,   Wanganui,NZ   (04.09.14)
I agree that the present structure is unsuitable. What those participating in the discussions ignore completely is that we evolved into a globally interconnected and interdependent world where there are no local "two-state" solutions. Just look at the Ukraine, or the Far East for immediate examples. Not that there was ever a simple Israeli-Palestinian problem anyway. This conflict involves multiple countries with multiple vested interests. Thus the negotiations, and any future agreements should involve all of those who are interfering with the problem. Israel should initiate mutual, round table discussions with those regional powers that are crucial for the long term agreements, and also involve all the international power brokers, not only a single one, in order to gain a globally, mutual guarantee that any agreement could be sustainable. And even before all this could take place Israel itself should connect around a plan, acting as a single, undoubtedly united nation, demanding recognition and right to exist. We live in a real world not in a Hollywood movie, the future has to build on true, solid foundations.
30. Negotiate for what?
Dan ,   USA   (04.09.14)
Negotiate her own suicide?
