I read about an Arab palestinian clan leader who was opposed to taking land from Israel for a palestinian state, has the allegiance of numerous families, and said he would not support the PA if they did get their state. Israel should support him instaed of Abbas. Does anyone remember his name?

Could Mahmoud Abbas treat his people like this? Secondly, while Many Palestinians have taken to the streets in recent past to support Mr. Abbas, I believe human nature will kick in after all this maneuvering and the Palestinians will elect a new leader and get on with their lives. Israel fought the 6 day war and conquered the West Bank from Jordan. The major mistake all these years was that Israel starting to negotiate with PA instead with Jordan. West Bank was Jordan territory therefore Israel should ignore PA and open negotiation with Jordan alone. What Jordan does after is not an Israel problem

Abbas has a good idea, giving up. He's not going to achieve what he wants anyway because the PA and Palestinians in general are way too weak to negotiate on par with Israel, he gets no support from the Arab world except for worthless lip service, and really has no other allies who can help him in any meaningful way. Negotiating with Israel is a waste of everyone's time. Just give up and let the chips fall where they may. There's no other option.

First of all, Israel already is the regional powerhouse. We got there without the contribution of West Bank Arabs (unless you think violence and terror constitute a "contribution;" personally, I don't) and I don't think they should be part of a future equation. Israel should annex Judea and Samaria, and repatriate the Arabs residing therein to Jordan, country of their citizenship. They will never make dependable, trustworthy Israelis -- we cannot ignore the past seven decades -- and there is no reason to trust them now. What they've done to the Jewish people is largely unforgiveable, and their mindset is so totally different, they'll never make good citizens. They should pursue their future in Jordan. Jordan is, after all, the "Palestinian" state. It is time for the little "Hashemite" half-Iraqi, half-British "king" to face reality. Instead of bullying Israeli ceaselessly, the international community ought to apply pressure to Jordan to do what is right.
