During the Vritish mandate the number of Arabs doubled as more and more Arabs ("Palestinians") came to the land that the Jews and British started to develop. In 1948 there were about 1,100,000 Arabs in Palestine. It's their high birthrate that counts for the facts that there are several millions "Palestinians" now, but before Zionism started there were a handful of Arabs living in this land.
