Enough! The office is nothing but a figurehead waste of taxpayer money. It's high time to do away with the office of the president.

3. Office of President
Sagi   (05.03.14)
The position is superfluous, redundant and ridiculous. The "race" for the position is both degrading and farcical. The fact that the Israeli public is incapable of forcing its will on the elected body of parliamentarians seeking self glorification is a sad reflection on our society.
4. #1 Peres has done much to improve Israel's image abroad!

16. keep the presidency but make it elected not apointed
zionist forever   (05.04.14)
The presidency is a position we should keep because he is supposed to be the countries respectable face abroad. Most countries have both a head of state and a political leadership and we should not change that. Peres has been to political at home and pushed the boundries of the presidency to often but abroad they respect and thats when we need a president most. What needs to change is it must become an elected office because right now the presidency is a golden handshake for the MKS to honor their own or for political purposes convince somebody to get out of politics. Anybody should have the right to stand for the presidency as the country doesn't just belong to MKS and the presidency is supposed to be ceremonial not political.
