1. It's about time!
Avi Israeli ,   Tel-Aviv   (05.04.14)
Imagine Obama, Putin or Merkel flying on a commercial flight to save money for the State? We're not the same Israel of Ben Gurion and Menachem Begin. Thank G-d, we've evolved. Oh, and the part about 'missing for 15 hours' is utter BS. Even ELAL passengers now have internet access on all flights to Europe.
2. Self-love
Michael ,   Haifa   (05.03.14)
Our hedonistic leaders really love themselves, and we, the fools, finance their self-love

4. these things are not luxuries they are essential for governm
zionist forever   (05.04.14)
These things look like luxuries and the opposition will claim they are luxuries but they are essentials for running a 21st century government. The office complex is needed because to run a country the PM needs access to all sorts of facilities the current residence doesn't have because it was not purpose built but the old one should be opened to paying tourists or business functions. The plane will pay for itself long term. It cost about $1 million+ to charter a plane from ELAL every time the PM or president need to go abroad and the whole bed fiasco is proof that a plane is needed. Bibi had no idea how much it would cost for his bed, the government was chartering the plane was a perfectly reasonable request to instal a bed for the PM but even though it was just a matter of removing a few seats in a chartered plane EAL charged $137,000, when chartering does not allow the PM a few basic comforts for $1 million then you know its time to stop chartering. The only thing that should be done is the airforce should have full use of it when its not in diplomatic service and should be purchased using military aid or be a second hand plane.
5. PM gets new office etc
Anne Leslie ,   Aberdeen, UK   (05.03.14)
While the PM gets new Offices etc, the poor in Israel is growing. How do they get away with such things as this? At least he's got an air stewardess on hand as well!!!

The president of Israel flying commercial is absolutely insane...

Is disconnected! Wowww people that seat near to him in flighs can read his reviews, so the best economy plan isIs disconnected! Wowww people that seat near to him in flighs can read his documents, so the best economy plan is to spend 650 million shekels in a Presidential plane. I will not approved it.!! Chutzpah!! You better take one of those six V-22 Osprey aircrafts if you want to fligh, or travel by sea in those dolphin submarines that you got from Merkel!!!

I can put up with your arrogance in calling me bad names, but not with your bad breath that accompanies it, which seeps out of your talkback. There are other hedonists who will take over, if and when the present ones fade away.
11. What next?
PEM ,   Israel   (05.04.14)
I foresee a state yacht for official state cruises. They can justify the expense by saying it will cost less to travel to Turkey, Cyprus and Greece than flying.
12. It's true ! By time new residence built + plane purchased
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.04.14)
there will be elections for other Israeli leaders. Even though, till now Israel has taken a low profile stance, it is time to upgrade.

zionist forever   (05.04.14)
The chances of Bibi being PM when the plane is purchased are slim and the chance of him being PM by the time this new complex is completed is zero so this is not luxury for Bibi. Its alot of money but the government NEEDS these things. The current PM residence is to small, the PM works virtually 24/7 the general public know very little abut the knd of workload the PM has to undertake. The plane is expensive to begin with but the thing would probably pay for itself within about 5 years. The ELAL bed fiasco just goes to justify how chartering a plane cost the state to much money and a state owned plane would save money long term
14. Response to No. 1
gp ,   tel aviv   (05.04.14)
Firstly, no, we're not the same Israel of Ben Gurion and Begin and have evolved into the same overfed prats found all over Africa: tinpot dictators living off the fat of their own people because, well, because that's what being in power means to them. As for other countries, if British Airways is good enough for Cameron, why should El Al not be good enough for Netanyahu? It's simply because this is a man who knows no shame, no embarrassment, no conscience. His personal power and comfort is all. A Nero who fiddles while the rest of us are trying to live off a half a salary every month to feed him and his Miss Piggy wife.

zionist forever   (05.04.14)
This is not about ELAL not being good enough for Netanyahu its about savings. Cost $1 million every time the PM travels abroad and because he has to charter a plane and the plane is not kitted out with any kind of secure communications or defense systems. The bed fiasco more than anything was proof this plane will pay for itself. The government chartered a plane for around $1 million. As it was a charter rather than commercial flight asking for the instillation of a bed was a perfectly reasonable request, ELAL just remove some seats put in a bed but instead they charged $137,000 for which there was no justification and Bibi had no idea they would charge for the bed so its not fair to blame it on him. Who knows what kind of deal the British government have worked out with British Airways when they charter a jet all that matters is the deal we get with ELAL which is just not economical and buying a plane is a short term cost but long term saving, its also very unlikely Bibi will ever go on this plane because he will probably be out of office when the plane arrives and he knows it so for now we are at the mercy of ELAL when Bibi travels.
16. #10, The chances of your darlings Herzog and Galon to be PM

important nation state and our PM represents us all over the globe and, as well, his residence is an official state home where visiting dignitaries may meet in comfort and security. Of course we (Israeli citizens) want that and, of course, it is costly. As to a private plane, it should be equipped with a bed and all safety devices and communication equipment and be at the beck and call of our PM. It is the 21st century. What do you expect? People on this Talkback forum are raising a fuss as is to be expected however their logic is overcome by their emotions.

Israel is not a third world country. "Mount Carmel forest fire in 2010, the worst fire in Israel history, have caused damage of $450 millions of dollars, and human lifes. A total of 34 international firefighting aircraft from U.S.,Turkey, Greece, Russia, France, Britain, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Jordan, Egypt, Cyprus and Palestinians fought to bring the fires under control."

During Netanyahu administration: 2011 and 2012 social housing protesters marchs across Israel. List of demands they asked: to reduce taxes, to increase the construction and housing ministery budget, to add jobs post, and medical equipment infrastructure nationwide. Hadassa Medical Center: administrative and support staff workers threatened with a strike unless their salaries were paid in full.

"What do you expect? People on this Talkback forum are raising a fuss as is to be expected however their logic is overcome by their emotions" I expect from the ynet moderator to leave this article open to be debated by talkbacks forists. According to you our logic might be considered silly, stupid, what else? but your criticism about our logic is inconsistent with main issue debated. Should the goverment approve a plan of 650 million shekels to buy a Presidential plane for whoever could be in the future the next Prime Minister & President? My answer is no. First let the israeli economy to recover. Second, make a peace agreement with palestinians, third, adopt a constitution for Israel. Yom haatzmaut sameah! Shalom
