the hareidim are not just refusing to enlist in the idf, they're also not getting an education and working to support their families. the heads of yeshivas forbid students to get driver's licences, or to "waste time" on secular subjects, or to learn a trade or profession. there is no religious basis for this, except that "hashem" (in the form of secular "frayerim", called the state) will support them. in new york, where there is no such divine intervention, equally pious yeshiva students learn a profession, and go on to real jobs to support their families.

The Shoah changed a lot though there horrific MassMurders and Abuses before .To survive you need to Pray and Fight. .
3. This report is a LIE! Whom are you trying to fool?
(05.05.14)
Since the new law of yeshiva students requiring to enlist, a huge percentage of religious soldiers dropped from the military. Even YNet has reported so recently. There has not been 1 haredi who joined the military since then. Unless you consider all religious Zionists as haredim.

Israel except those who "were faint at heart" or "those who were newly wed & had not "known" their newly wedded wife". Israel completely destroyed the deuteronian XXII romun legion except at the last minute, Bar Cochba stopped the Israeli force & jumped out infront when the romun soldiers "groaned" & told those still alive to go back to rome. And they did. But they returned with a retired general when Israel went to rome to as who should Israel choose as their king. We should never ask for the opinion of outsiders ever again.
5. Perhaps that is because more are reading Exodus 15:3 that
Rivkah   (05.05.14)
says, "YHVH is a Man of battle, YHVH is His Name." They want to be like Elohim in His character as a military Man.
6. #3 is right It's absolutely not true.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.05.14)
Nahal Haredi are not Haredim in the true sense of the word. Like #3 said, they're Daati Leumi, Religious Zionists - a far cry from Haredim. #1 Most haredim in NY never went to learn a profession but went straight from Yeshiva to work without a profession and without secular education and they're better off than many of those with a profession. #4 You're talking about a religious army, while the IDF is anything but religious. That's why real haredim have no intentions of enlisting in the IDF.
7. Slowly and surely the Haredim will realize that they must
Al   (05.05.14)
participate in the defence of the country. When hunger will smack at their lips they will understand that only when they have the skills needed to participate in a modern economy will they survive and even thrive. Being a schnorrer and raising children to be schnorrers is the opposite of what the Torah teaches us. The young Haredim will come to understand that their dear power hungry Rabbis have led them astray for oh so very long. WE all believe in a god, but when that comes to the point where it affects the well being of children in their capacity to grow and thrive, then its high time common sense takes over. Today we mark the heavy day of Yom Hazikaron. Those of us who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to war and terrorism know all too well the pain and the loss. I see the Haredim and others who shirk their responsibility and I am simply disgusted. They ought to know better. God was a witness when my late religious grandparents were walked into the hells of Treblinka and Auschwitz. He was a witness. He didn't save them. Believe in a god, yes but you ought to have your own common sense. Let us honour the memory of the departed by dedication to our reborn Israel. Only in Israel can the Jewish people ever achieve that what was promised to them.
8. The Haredim
E.S. ,   Jerusalem   (05.05.14)
The reluctancy of not joining the military can be understood especially if religious views are inherent. But by the same token an eagerness to solve the issues to make "armed combat" nonexistent would be the answer. Contained in the Tanak are instructions/ prophecies that could calm this whole situation. Since the Yeshiva institution has been committed to learning the Tanak, would there be those willing to apply what has been learned to bring this to fruition? Let's say this is the time for prophecy to be fulfilled and for Israel to be like a light unto the nations. Or do they only wait for the unknown Bethlehem-Judean Levi Prophet Messiah, ben David, to explain to them how. The Haredim would know that the word/name of Zion is a very good name.
