The Germans basically did not want to prosecute Nazi murderers of Jews, since they did not feel it was much of a crime. But they also did not want to be accused of failure to prosecute. So first they said they had no knowledge of where any of the Nazi war criminals could be found (this from the world's best record-keepers). Then, after many years, when only a few of the criminals were still living, the Germans said they had "finally" located them, but unfortunately, most were too old and weak to be prosecuted.

Among reasons [excuses] given was that the various countries could not agree on the definition of 'crime' at Auschwitz !!! Today if an IDF soldier sneezes at an Arab he's accused of 'war crimes'. At Nuremberg, the judges ruled that membership in the SS was a 'crime' but did not pursue the point because there was a 'lack of will', in spite of public support.

Just because a soldier was assigned to a camp does not automatically make him a murderer or willing accomplice. The penalty for disobeying an order during war time was normally summary execution (esp. the SS). What would you do under those circumstances? I bet money you would obey. Let's look at the Sonderkommandos, Jews who willingly worked in the death camps. The Judas goats, the ones picking through the clothing, etc., etc. They played a role to extend or save their lives, aiding and abetting the liquidation process. How many of these have been prosecuted. Or, did they hide out in Israel. Forgive and forget. What will Israel do to the Zionist murderers of Palestinians when the day of reckoning comes?
