I guess prayers at the Vatican aren't all that effective. Perhaps the pope should launch himself on a pilgrimage of prayer amongst the over one billion Catholics, most of whom live in abject poverty and despair. This, despite the fact that the Vatican is thought to be the single wealthiest institution in the entire world.
Why so many desperately poor Catholics, then? Why doesn't the Church clean its own house before worrying about anyone else's?
