Inescapable conclusion when rabbinic law cannot be wrong -- though even Moses and King David made mistakes. Rabbis are on par with the Almighty. Not! (Dan. 7.25)

6. So, what's to be done?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.25.14)
Men hold women hostage with a get, and women hold men hostage with a get. In a community where a get is a religious necessity, a state decree of divorce is insufficient. And, sadly, the moneyed spouse is usually the one who won't grant the get. It's a primitive practice, which occasionally required primitive actions. But I draw the line at violence and torture. That's just thuggery. Rabbinical courts exist precisely to avoid brutal violence, but sometimes, a recalcitrant spouse will ignore the ruling of the rabbinical court. The court cannot issue a get -- well, in theory, it can, but it would be viewed as tainted. It is a somewhat primitive practice, but no more primitive than a Catholic marriage, where one cannot remain Catholic and be divorced, too. Annulments are expensive, and render the progeny of any marriage illegitimate. I imagine that all religions have quaint views regarding marriage and divorce. Look at some of the crazy polygamist sects and their "celestial marriages." Or Roman Catholic nuns who "marry" a 2,000 year old corpse. I don't know what the Moslems do, but I have to believe that it has its fair share of untoward practices.

I don't think anyone cares whether or why you are surprised. I suspect a great many things baffle you.
9. Time for civil marriage as this case proves
Nancy   (05.25.14)
Time to allow those who want a state civil ceremony and end the monopoly of this outdated institution, then Israel can go towards becoming a true democracy

11.  #7 Sarah B. In re Michael running faster
Sagi   (05.25.14)
Wrong attitude Sarah, actually you should be finding ways to stop him, et les autres, moi par example, from running too fast. I was brought up in a good Jewish home, I have dedicated my life to Israel, in more ways than I wish to mention here. The black coats are succeeding in turning me away. I am sure that Michael and many others feel as I do.
12. #7, With you in sight, I triple my getaway speed.
