The last several times I've been to Brussels, I visited the Musee des Beaux Arts (twice), the Horta Museum and the Magritte. I had to pass through metal detectors each time, and at the Beaux Arts, my handbag and my tote were inspected. There are no such security measures at the Jewish Museum. Why is the Jewish Museum subject to a lesser standard? Museums in Belgium are not privately owned; they are all property of the Belgian state. That includes the Jewish Museum. That leaves Belgium liable to a lawsuit. I hope the guardians of the orphaned daughters of Miriam and Emanuel Riva (z"l) file suit on behalf of these two young girls. The Belgian government, through whomever controls its museums, certainly demonstrated callous disregard for the safety and security of the visitors to the Jewish museum.
