The logic of US recognition of PA government in territory which it doesn't control and is used as a staging post for rocket attacks shows how US is bending over backwards without principles to accommodate PA and by proxy Hamas which is a recognized terrorist organisation which happens to control Gaza.. The United States may not be "ready" to hold the unity government responsible, but the Congress of the United States is, and from the American perspective, that is all that matters -- Congress, after all, controls the purse strings. Moreover, Israel is ready to hold the unity government responsible, so what the United States is and is not ready to do means jacksh*t. That's why Israel took great pains to take down the terrorist, and not just the launcher and the launch site. Unlike, the United States' carpet bombing of Iraq and Afghanistan, which killed three million Afghani and Iraqi civilians, Israel can target rather precisely. But NATO's record of collateral damage (i.e., civilian deaths) is an available page in Israel's book, when the time comes to deal with Gaza with less delicacy. Finally -- the unity deal has been signed. The effective date was the date of signature. Q.E.D., the unity agreement is de jure -- Hamas and the "palestine" authority are legally one entity.
