1. Retake Gaza forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.23.14)
All Israel's Gaza problems result directly from Israel's lunatic retreat from Gaza. The answer is to totally defeat "Palestinians" and retake Gaza forever. The same is true of all our abandoned lands.
2. First Lebanon War 1982
Abraham ,   NYC   (06.23.14)
The writers point is that we could emerge from this conflict the same way we emerged from the First Lebanon War, with a radicalized extremist population, with a burden too great on the psyches of young israelis and pals who will suffer physical and psychological effects which will last a lifetime, with further intl isolation, european anti semitism and additional boycott initiatives. It is nearly imossible to invade a city or country and not create more bad than good. There is nothing to gain on either side from an all out invasion of towns and cities and countries, and the costs are too high.

10. memories
(06.23.14)
Plotzker says of himself that he has a good memory, but apparently he completely forgot what happened in the First Lebanon war. The Likud and Sharon had a fantastic plan: work together with Lebanese patriots to eliminate the brutal PLO (remember Damour) and free Lebanon from the Syrian occupation. It worked perfectly and Israel was on the verge of peace. The Israeli extreme Left was in shock: Sharon had destroyed their darling PLO, their dream of establishing Palestine and ending Israel as a Jewish state. The still Zionist moderate Left was worried: if Likud made peace with Lebanon, they would never be able to get back in power to steal Israeli taxpayer money. Unexpectedly, the Left and extreme Left were saved and the Zionists were defeated when Assad's intelligence forces struck two blows to the amateurs of Aman and Mossad: the murder of Bashir Gemayel and the Sabra and Shatilla Massacre. The Israeli extreme and moderate Left used Assad's victories, especially the massacre, to delegitimize Israel, neutralize Begin and Sharon and seize power. It was the Left's collaboration with Assad that led to to Israel's defeat in Lebanon, return of the Labor party to party (in their current anti-Zionist form), Israels' inability to win the First Intifada (until Shamir) and eventually the Oslo disaster with thousands of dead.

Are you out of your mind. Go with your own children an conquer Gaza if you wish. Sane people will have nothing to do with your mentally challenged proposal.
12. Lessons from Lebanon.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (06.23.14)
And letting Hamas go unhinderd in their development on the west bank is clever? Search and destroy from time to time is far smarter.ie kill the bug while its small is a tried and tested technique. Do you have a better solution Sever ?
13. Good article, ty for this analyse.

14. Flogging a dead horse
Shachar ,   Eilat   (06.23.14)
Within 3 days the IDF had got all the targets it knew of. Since then it's been flogging a dead horse. Milling around isn't doing anyone any good, it's time to declare victory and leave.

16. #1 - HOW?
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (06.23.14)
Do you have any idea what trying to "retake Gaza" would COST Israel? Based on the last 100 years of history, Israel should PLAN on thousands of Israelis dying and hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza being killed, with Hamas continuing to exist. It is completely impossible for Israel to "defeat" the Palestinians without committing genocide. The political fallout would devastate the Israeli economy. And if enough Gazans are killed, the entire Muslim world (1.5 BILLION) would descend upon Israel and the US would not help at all. Sure Israel could use its nukes, but if it did, it would be committing suicide. Is that what you want? Israel has reached the end of its military power, so maybe Israel should be looking for a way to live with its neighbors.
17. endless leftwing backstabbing
Daniel ,   TA - IL   (06.23.14)
wow is the writer on the presbytirian or eu salary list or both... if not, then he must be on the hamas payroll for all his anti israel venom
18. Replace Hamas with AlQaeda
Sami ,   Israel   (06.23.14)
In 1982 , PLO threats were removed and it was evicted out of Lebanon. However, it was replaced by more fanatic Hezballa ( more dangerous threat to Israel existence). What will happen when Israel destroys Hamas ? Who will come out ?
19. To No. 16.
Bertram ,   London, UK   (06.23.14)
I think Hamas must be quite disappointed that Chaim and his supporters are not official spokespersons for the Israeli government. Even the current government will probably refrain from shooting itself in both feet as Chaim and co would have it do.
