k ,   US   (06.23.14)
if they know the Israelis are going to help them, they are going to fire at the Israelis and hope the Israels are going to respond and help them defeat Assad

Nothing makes me more sick than limp wristed, wet handshaking, tree hugging, sandal wearing, bearded liberal voting people who profess to be of the Jewish faith . . You are a disgrace and and to think that you have learnt nothing from recent history means you are doomed to repeat it . . God help us all . .

7. Whether Assad or 'militias' it's bad news for Israel.
David ,   Hartford USA   (06.23.14)
Whoever fired the missile that killed this teenager and wounded his father is just a murderer, plain and simple. They were hoping to kill Jews but instead killed Muslims. In their play book, that's ok. In the Israel play book, every citizen has the right to live and work in peace- and not be a target for Muslim psychopaths. If Assad did it to try and frame the militias or if the militias did it trying to frame Assad, it doesn't matter. One of them didn't think that murdering civilians in another country was a problem. For that reason alone, Netanyahu has every right to order every military and militia installation that can fire on the Golan destroyed. If he doesn't put a stop to this terrorist activity now, it will blow up in his face. Does this attack on civilians constitute an act of war? Or will the Golan become another Sderot? Bibi MUST make sure this never happens again. Our deepest sympathy to the family. This never should have happened.

9. The State of Israel has been very direct and clear with ...
N.L.Katz ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (06.23.14)
... regard to the civil war taking place in next door, Syria: 1) Don't redirect your fire and hit Israel. 2) Don't try to move strategic weapons to lawless organizations such as Hizballah. 3) Don't use chemical weapons. Each such move will cause Israel to react. Israel reacted, this time at the firing of an anti-tank missile fired at a group of workers involved, on the Israeli side of the border, in fixing the security fence. One teenager was killed and several adults were injured. Let us hope the Syrian forces and those who assist them - Iranian and Hizballah troops - will not repeat testing the resolve of the State of Israel. P.S. Ironically, the person killed was an Arab from one of the villages in the Galilee. Also, ironically, Israel continues to admit injured Syrians into Israeli hospitals, while the Syrian army kills and injures Israeli citizens.
10. waste of time and ammunition
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.23.14)
"controlled" responses will not deter these attackers, and getting sucked into the syrian civil war is not a good idea. plus, there's a good chance that the retaliation was against the wrong side, which certainly won't deter anybody. israel should use its advantage, intelligence, instead. by supplying accurate intelligence to one side or the other, israel could have achieved the same effect without firing a shot.
11. Israel Strikes Syria
Joshua ,   Canada   (06.23.14)
@ # 1 CJK I disagree with your view that this was a good decision. In all likelyhood it was Syrian rebels who caused the death of the teen at the border fence. Once again they have suckered the IDF into attacking President Assad for them. Maybe Bibi can just take over for these terrorist animals and conclude the Syrian war for them too. Best of luck in the near future dealing with ISIL and company though. This move by the IDF I find very distressing. How can you possibly hold Mr Assad responsible for this without proof that it wasn't the rebels that caused the death of this boy?
12. Who fired the Kornet missile?
Mark B. ,   Amsterdam / Holland   (06.23.14)
If it were the Syrian rebel forces, it means Israel is doing the bidding of ISIS. It makes no logic that Assad should seek escalation with Israel now.
13. #2, #12
(06.23.14)
We do not know who fired the missile that murdered the boy, and we do not know whether Netanyahu does. It is possible Syria army did it, in which case the counterattack was justified. In any cases, the rebel forces operating in South Golan are not ISIL, but American-funded and Jordanian-based.
14. #12 "Logic" is not a part of Assad's personality
A ,   Belgium   (06.23.14)
Don't bother using "logic" as an explanation for his behaviour, there is no logic in mass murdering his own people.
15. 12 logic has nothing to do with it
CJK   (06.23.14)
if assad had logic, he would not be committing genocide on his people.

CJK   (06.23.14)
unlike you, i have faith in tzahal, in amal, in mossad, in unit 8200, in gantz, in ya'alon, in netanyahu. since all of these men concluded based on various intelligence that the attack came from syrian troops, and since i do not have opposing intelligence, i must conclude that the syrian regular army committed this war crime and crime of aggression.

You are correct CJK & I agree with you.
18. tactical response is good but keep it at that
zionist forever   (06.23.14)
A small scale tactical response to send Assad a message is fine but lets make sure its kept small scale, the last thing we need is to get overly zealous and risk the war spreading into Israel.
19. Agree also with CJK.
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (06.23.14)
The response was not immediate and gave time for the origin and nature of the fire to be established. There is no win-win with any of this anyway.
