1. sephardic descrimination
alan ash ,   nyc n   (06.24.14)
Shame on them . the Ashkenazim are jealous that the sepharadim have the culture, are more well rounded, tolerance and better family values. And they are left out of the schools, Stupidity and a chillul hashem , their misguided Torah does not want them stupid
2. No surpise!!
Liam ,   Israel   (06.24.14)
not a surprise, same goes on in Beit Yaakov in Los Angeles! Ashkenazi's being racist is nothing new
3. Expand the size of the school so that all who apply who are
Rivkah   (06.24.14)
suitable can be admitted. Hire more teachers. Build on to the buildings. Or build a separate Sephardic school. Sephardic and Ashkenazi are different in many ways so there are two Chief Rabbis. Mixing Baptists and Roman Catholics at the same public school is one thing, but to mix them at the same private religious school would be confusing since they have different dogmas.
4. What racism?
Avi ,   NYC   (06.24.14)
Before engaging in American style rhetoric, perhaps the writers should consider what race Sephardim are and what race "ultra orthodox" are. Or of the girls are even Sephardim .
5. Shas is the last to talk
gp ,   Tel Aviv   (06.24.14)
Their "spiritual leader" has just imposed a ban on university education for girls, so why bother to get them to school at all? We are going backwards, at least 1,000 years, and these primitive dolts are clearly taking lessons from the Taliban. Government, as usual, sits back and does absolutely nothing that is useful to anyone. These are shameful times, where ignorance, superstition and irrational belief is sanctioned in the name of religion. And like every other religion, the divisions and sub divisions into crazier and crazier cults- each competing with the next for superiority - is creating a fragmented society that most of us don't want our children to inherit.
6. Discrimination will be dealt with by denying it
Peter ,   Jerusalem   (06.24.14)
If everyone says there is no discrimination, there is no discrimination. Or we can make it more palatable by giving it some sort of halakhic reasoning based on minor differences in customs, which is fine. Or just do what is always done, issue veiled threats for people to shut up, keep their ideas within their private spheres and put on a tolerance show in public.
7. Rav Elyashiv ztl
Joseph ,   London England   (06.24.14)
When this issue came up some years back the Gaon Rav Elyashiv ztl condemned this discrimination in the strongest terms and said such principals must be replaced. First it's Halachically wrong and second if you accept public money you must accept the laws that go with it.
8. Better than Israel's High-Court of "Justice"
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.24.14)

Where I come from, the Jewish that I knew was by the Jewish Scriptures in the Christian Bible. It was a wonder growing up what the Jewish would have evolved to after all these years with the beautiful inspiration of the Jewish Scriptures. During a time of meeting some Jewish residents of Israel, I met a young lady. She was a brunette with blue eyes. Having read similar articles as this one, I asked her if she was Sephardic or Ashkenazi. Her reply was that she was both. That was the most beautiful answer I ever heard. I thought like they say, "Love is a splendid thing". Why fire the principal? That's very drastic. Why can't you just talk to him about it and give him a warning? One day we hope and pray, that Israel reaches its highest potential. And the sooner, the better. These haredi groups I have a tremendous amount of respect for because of certain categories that I believe they excel with positive results. There are some negative reports that we hope are very limited in scope and by the book, when the Jewish tendencies come out, there would be serious consequences, like the 12 tribes. I believe it. They gave insight to circumstances and reactions that made their laws and their ways. It sounds like the part of Jewish Scripture that mentions of remembering the law of the mother and the command and ways of the father. All you can continue to try and do is better.
14. What a bunch of crap!
Sam ,   PT   (06.25.14)
Would you also call them racist if they don't accept secular or non-Jews? Girls who are not up to the religious standards of those schools, are not accepted. PERIOD! If anyone is racist, it's the High Court - like someone else mentioned - they never accepted any Sefardim, except for one.
