1. Somebody please stop Yemini before it's too late &he becomes
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.24.14)
one more "Radical, fringe- Right Wing warmonger"! In the end he'll have to change his name to "Yemani". Incredible...:-)))
2.  Was Against Jewish Law Then- And Now
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (06.24.14)
When certain rabbis mentioned that the price of ransom was too high and that it would lead to more terror, nobody listened. This is the result.
3. almost...the entire country went mad.
les ,   canada   (06.24.14)
that is what a handful of radical, mindless, super leftie zombies can do to the unthinking majority. BUT, that is why israel must have a leadership, whom can figure out what is best for the country, and not worrying for their personal interest, and re-elections. it is the responsibility of the thinking israeli voters to make sure that will be the case.
4. don't let noam shalit off so lightly
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.24.14)
yes, noam shalit was right to lobby for his son's release. and yes, he exhibited great energy and talent in doing so. but he was wrong to pressure the israeli government instead of holding his protests at the gaza border. anyone with even half a bit of sense knows that you don't undermine your own bargaining position in a negotiation. and he did a lot of undermining.
5. Now isee why i heard about Shalit in the U.S
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (06.24.14)
They had a P.R. firm paid for by the owner of a company where Shalit's father held a senior position. Wertheimer even provided the Shalit family with an apartment in Jerusalem, funded the family members’ personal needs, including food, and helped finance the campaigns. -
6. In Shalit days,if u were against swap=heartless and cruel!
Alan ,   SA   (06.24.14)
7. #1 he did not see the light
(06.24.14)
It is more about attacking Netanyahu and weakening Israel than seeing the light. You see, he admits that the only reason he was against the release is it would weaken arch-terrorist Abbas.
8. the mostly left wing press is very culpable
CJK   (06.24.14)
they were the ones whipping up hysteria and putting the pressure on netanyahu.
9. NEVER EVER RELEASE ISLAMIC TERRORISTS.
Beary White ,   Norway   (06.24.14)
The members of the islamic-cult, also called by one word; islam, should NEVER be released. Islamic hatred and killer behavior is NOT of the best for the civilized world. Hundreds of human beeings are killed every day by the evil islamic cult.
10. # 8 You are completely right
Moshe ,   Israel   (06.24.14)
And you know the reason for their enlisting ? Because, as I read at the time, Noam was a senior member in Labor party. TV channel 2 for instance, ended every day during Shalit's captivity its 6 pm actuality news with displaying the number of days Shalit was already abducted.
11. !! Wrong. Letting Shalit Die Is Murder.
Ovadiah ben Avraham ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.25.14)
You have one Israeli in harms way. You get him back and then deal with it. There are way more Palestinian murderers than just the recidivist released prisoners. Letting Shalit die is to PARTICIPATE in his murder.
12. Yemini's unsubstantiated claim.
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (06.24.14)
"Before Shalit deal, 123 Israelis had been murdered by released Palestinian prisoners." When you make such a hysterical claim, Yemini, you better provide the evidence. Where is it??
13. Israel's moral duty to release terrorists
Adam ,   NYC   (06.25.14)
Since Israelis are pressganged into military service, every soldier is robbed of their individual liberty to choose whether or not they wish to risk their life for their country. By forcing Israelis into life threatening situations, Israel has a moral obligation to bring her soldiers home alive and unfortunately that could mean releasing terrorists. There could be laws to prevent releasing these terrorists but the Supreme Court and other lefties are allowed to circumvent laws that do not serve their destructive goals. Israel could use the death penalty (which would be moral anyways) but there is no guarantee the death penalty would deter kidnappings. Judging by the overwhelming applicants for elite units, Israel has more than enough warriors willing to put their lives on the line, conscription or not. By transforming the IDF into a professional army, soldiers choose to take on risks to their lives. Since soldiers choose to take on risks, Israel has no moral obligation to release hundreds of terrorists for one soldier. However, if Israel declares her sovereignty in YeShA and wipes out the terrorists instead of propping them up and giving them land, there would be no need to release terrorists to begin with because there would be no one to kidnap them.
14. #11, thank you
mea   (06.25.14)
15. Israel highest court approved deal. Talk to executioners.
Miron ,   USA   (06.25.14)
Mrs. Livni and Mr. Netaneyahoo, and Yehud Barak spent at least a day each, in front of cameras, with Gilad Schalit family. Mr. Noam Schalit balloted for Knesset. ... What's your trouble now.
16. It was not the whole country at all....
History nut ,   Israel   (06.25.14)
This is the type of exaggeration that indicates a lack of evidence. It was as high as 79% which is 4 of 5. There was still a moral person out of every five that said no. It was this type of article though that helped sway the heart over the mind.
17. where did the money come from?
Daniel ,   TA - IL   (06.25.14)
it seems that there is an endless stream of money for financing causes that undermine israeli morality. Why is this never investigated. right because a lot of journalists and influential people - read oslo millionaires - are recipiencts of this blood money from the eu and the us. Even tough I can understand noam shalit, he very well knew where the funds were coming from and what the purpose was. As such he is cuplable of being a willing tool to undermine all our safety!
18. "the entire country went mad"!
tiki ,   belgium   (06.25.14)
No the entire country didn't get mad, but those who were against the deal were accused by the hysterical Left of being heartless people and (nearly) as bad as the abductors.
19. #11 Letting Shalit die a crime but killing Mizrahi was OK
Shachar ,   Eilat   (06.25.14)
Israelis don't care about the victims that don't yet have names. Congratulations, you have saved one and killed a hundred. But this is irrelevant to the true considerations a leader must make. A leader is supposed to be leading the war against terror, not surrendering to them. The catastophic deals are made because politicians want to be popular, not responsible.
20. Find the leftist consensus. Do the opposite.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.25.14)
In virtually every case, the self respecting life affirming choice is the exact opposite of the leftist consensus. Freeing terrorists is one of many examples.
21. To Beary White, Norway (06.24.14), at nr. 9.
Sjoerd van der Velde ,   Hoorn, Holland   (06.25.14)
That is a perfect and correct solution and idea. NEVER EVER RELEASE ''islam" TERRORISTS. "islam" is not a religion, but a criminal ideology, for an "islam"- world caliphate, everywhere and always. Not voluntarily, but by violence, force, war, slavery and terror, something very different than the free and democratic world. MIDDLE-EAST=ISRAEL, ISRAEL=MIDDLE-EAST! MAY G.D BLESS THE JEWISH, ISRAELI PEOPLE, ZIONISM, JUDAISM AND ISRAEL!
22. save one person, save the world
Mark B. ,   Amsterdam / Amsterda   (06.25.14)
Is that not a jewish expression? Personally, as a non-Jew (you lot propably would say goy) I was deeply moved and impressed by the Isareli Jews in the case of Shalit.
23. 22 Mark B
CJK   (06.26.14)
you are clueless about jewish theology. jews do not believe in saving all people at any price. rabbis usually determine the ransom to be paid for a hostage and such ransom is not unlimited.
24. # 15 The local High Court
Moshe ,   Israel   (06.26.14)
Virtually everyone who lives in Israel knows that the High Court is leftward biased, which means compliance to your most enemies' demands, for the sake of appeasement and liberalism. In addition, the swap was a governmental decision, and the court apparently didn't want to confront the rulers on such a salient issue.
25. #23 CJK
Mark B. ,   Amsterdam / Holland   (06.26.14)
Thank you so much Cipora, for teaching me something about Jewish theology. I feel honoured. Still, I think it is a very beautifull and wise expression.
26. Comment 22 to Shalit campaign was a hysterical surrender to
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USA   (06.26.14)
since you are not jewish let me educate you on jewish law. Saving a life is sacred but not if another will be sacrificed because of this act. One life is not more precious than another. Additionally, the Rabbis in Europe (where it was common to kidnap a Jew or fabricate a charge and jail him and then demand a high ransom from the community to free him. The Rabbis forbid the Jewish community from paying the ransom. Why? Because it would only encourage additional abductions, That was the situation with Shalit. Thus, those who agreed with the deal violated this prohibition.
27. To 23 & 25 Q&A
Adler   (06.27.14)
it is an interesting expression but maybe it hides the real meaning. if tzipora is to tzipi what psichology is to science,..who is wise, the reader, the interpreter the writer or the cipher? Ps to the Ynet Moderator: you did not post my comment yesterday. Bad mood or indifference? Never mind Shalom
