1. Who will fill the void?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.08.14)
Once Israel has dealt the death blow to Hamas in Gaza, Israel should immediately annex Judea and Samaria, and ship all "palestinians" who will instantly become illegal and unwanted aliens in Israel to Gaza. Let them build a state in Gaza. Solves a lot of problems.
2. IF - that's a big 'if' - there is a way to get rid of most..
Rafi ,   US   (07.08.14)
... weapons in Gaza, especially long-range missiles... then it shouldn't matter who is in control 'after Hamas'... Limited weapons means limited ability to impact Israel. But the next key step will always be control of the Rafah border with EGYPT... will al-Sisi govt keep it secure and the tunnels permanently closed ? If not, the entire current Gaza operation could be a wasted effort. To make this work long-term, Israel needs to permanently secure the Philadelphi/ Rafah axis; if Egypt does NOTdo its part. Israel would be compelled to enter adjoining Sinai to totally block tunnel building. Regardless, the present situation of war in Gaza every 3 yrs is untenable.... Israel needs to change the equation.
3. Sarah, you have to be joking.
Roberto ,   Canada   (07.08.14)
I can't believe anyone thinks that shipping people out will really happen. You may as well take out your magic wand and make the Arabs disappear. I mean it is a totally farcicle and devoid of any reason. It won't happen. The truly sad thing is that many people believe it. In other circumstances very smart people. Tragic really, because it stops you from seriously contemplating other acceptable alternatives. Sarah, I hope you wake up from your dream world soon.
4. To Sarah B., U.S./Israel (07.08.14), at nr. 1.
Sjoerd van der Velde ,   Hoorn, Holland   (07.08.14)
Israel also can annex the Gaza-strip, Golan-Heights and the rest of the present, entire Middle-East/Mid-East/Levant. All ""islam"-"pals"/Bedouins/Arabs to the centre/middle of the 3 Oceans, or to another planet, in our universe/multiverse. ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND TO YOUR FAMILY! Salute, Sjoerd Ruurd.
5. quid pro quo
tom ,   toronto, canada   (07.08.14)
in a more normal world, netanyahu would have cut a deal with obama, for israel to "show restraint" in gaza, while the usa takes care of iran's nuclear installations. but in this world, in which obama is contemplating american air support for the iranian revolutionary guard's expeditionary force's takeover of iraq, all "normal" considerations have gone out the window. god help us!
6. hammas had lots of choices but won't make right one. stop g

excusing them.
7. The very same Hamas that Obama embraced.
David ,   Hartford USA   (07.08.14)
The USA was quick to call the PA-Hamas 'unity' government a terrific idea. What idiots. The USA (Obama and Kerry) couldn't tell a terrorist from Mother Theresa, a homicidal maniac from Billy Graham. Israel must do what it has to do and the USA should have the decency to say, "Go do what you must" instead of the appeasing "Show restraint." The ISIS psychopaths will probably take the opportunity to join with Hamas and Hezbollah to attack on multiple fronts. The IDF has planned for this for years and is ready. The time of Israel-haters' "proportional response" is past. Israel must destroy Hamas- and if a good part of Gaza has to go to get it done, then that's the price the terrorists and their supporters will pay. The EU will come running with money to rebuild and the usual cycle of graft and corruption will resume. But Israel will have years of quiet. Will Gaza learn a lesson from this? Probably not. Will the west learn to call a terrorist a terrorist? Probably not. The IDF has the blessing of the civilized world on it.
8. !! Seal the Philadelphia Corridor
Ovadiah ben Avraham ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.08.14)
Sisi would thank us. Who would replace Hamas? Nobody at first. Eventually Fatah/PA. Then Abbas will be thanking us for getting him out of the mistaken Hamas/Fatah Unity Government that Obama/Kerry led him into.
9. Sometimes peace requires war
John Prophet   (07.08.14)
Obama warned of a "dangerous moment" for the region after the collapse of U.S.-backed peace talks. "As I said last year in Jerusalem, peace is necessary, just, and possible. I believed it then. I believe it now," he wrote. "Peace is necessary because it's the only way to ensure a secure and democratic future for the Jewish state of Israel."
10. Hamas conflict
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (07.09.14)
Long overdue. New ball game. Hamas is much stronger now and better armed. The way now is open to the end of 66+ years of Zionist occupation of Holy Palestine.

12. Sorry Mr. Barnea
David cohen ,   China   (07.09.14)
Despite my great respect for your past opinions and analysis I regret to say that you are naive in this analysis. Egypt will not allow anarchy at its door step. Egypt of today is not Israel and knows how to deal with barbarians. Your idea that humane treatment turn terrorists into human beings is passe and very intellectual askenaz. Time to wake up and shape up.
13. Fill the void?
albert snow ,   sweden   (07.09.14)
Who cares? It doesn´t matter. It can´t be worse than it already is. If there will be disorder, very good. Islamic Groups will begin fight each other about taking the lead. Very good. Confusion is a very high state of mind so let the palestinians get confused and disorderd. It´ll in fact make them weaker than weak.

dan frank ,   montreal canada   (07.09.14)
Ban Ki Moon calls for "restraint" I hope Israel will remember to call on him when North Korea will decides to invade his country and have him ask his country to show " restraint " when trying to stop these lunatics.

Look in a mirror and say "I am stupid".And then promise never to post on a Jewish site again.
17. Israel must retake Gaza forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.09.14)
None of Israel's Gaza wars, terror and rockets occurred until Israel's lunatic retreat from Gaza. Beautiful Gush Katif thrived on the land from which "palestinian" rockets pound Israel. The source of all our problems with Gaza is the retreat. The only solution is to retake it forever. "Palestinians" belong in Jordan.
18. Who will fill the void ?
Ed ,   Phila. PA   (07.10.14)
Ms. B's solution is silly, impractical, inhumane, and intellectually disappointing. No problems solved.
