1. Strike while the iron is hot!
zelig ,   memphis,U.S.A.   (07.14.14)
If anyone has GENUINE good intentions towards the Gazan Arabs they should want nothing less than total vitcotry over them.Once you cleanse them of missiles and ak-47's and bomb belts, you can cleanse their textbooks of hate and send their hateful teachers packing to Somaila or ISIS or some other lovely land.
2. cease fire or peace?
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (07.14.14)
a cease fire is a time to re-group, re-arm, prepare for the next confrontation. a peace is a time to stop hostilities and get back to normal peaceful life. we don't need another cease fire. we had too many of them. we need a peace.
3. hamas
joe ,   usa   (07.14.14)
what if after few months of calm and hamas manufacturing more missile the will simultaneously send 50 rockets to bengurion airport. given that iron dome success rate is 90 percent the chances to hit a civilian plane is very high. the same apply to dimona . either one is a major disaster in the past after all idf operation and later the calm hamas rebuilt its arsenal same in Lebanon and this is why the combined arsenal is at least 150000 you are really a strategic genius and so is your friend bibi

8. another dan halutz
yehdeskl   (07.14.14)
air force men usually lack the overall ground view and yadlin who did this thing at osiraq maybe should take counsel and keep quiet. Previously he advocated withdrawal from portions of the west bank showing how ignorant he really is. IDF under yaalon is in good position. Even if mass casualties occcur, idf is proceeding legal proof whereas hamas violates every law in the book. Deterrence has not been achieved yet and israel should not stop until hamas gives up its arms. Yadlin would do well to keep his ideas to himself cause they are rotten to the core-to the core.. This is like listenin g to the expert dan halutz- get the point. No ceasefire, no nothing. take it to the end. The future will be worse if not. Beside international guarantees from europe and USA are worthless. What is worth something is to annex the west bank, to regain the buffer zone with gaza that barak gav e up and to have control of philadelphi. End of story. In the meantime, yadlin-close your mouth.
9. yadlin another indyk and dennis ross
harvey   (07.14.14)
yadlin fancies himself as some expert like indyk in his own tuches. In reference the 2006 war which olmert and halutz botched as certified by winograd, the problem was not ending it early but not sending in sufficient groudn forces in several directions to destroy nasrollah's forces which were well prepared. Olmert violated every military rule in the book. Right now lapid and livni are repeating olmert's conduct but fortunatley are blocked by bennett and leiberman even at the threat of government collapse. Israelis expect israel to go for the throat cause that is where hamas will be. Yadlin's comments follow those of diskin and dagan. Guess what, go visit olmert in jail and tell each other how great you are. I am done with any regard for yadlin. It would not surprise me if his foundation is being paid by kerry, who as useless and untrustworthy as they come. Yadlin advocated giving up parts of the west bank- do you hear me or are you all stupid????!!!

11. with the greatest respect sir.....
les ,   canada   (07.14.14)
you do know better how many (cease fire) israel have had with those murderers over the past 66 years. the result, you know that better than i too. there only be peace for israel, when hamas is TOTALLY ELIMINATED in gaza. and of course their surrogate, financier and weapon supplier too.
12. So this fool thinks Deterrence = "a longer period of calm"??
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (07.14.14)
If clobbering Gaza had already re-established Israeli deterrence, as Yadlin idiotically claims, the rockets would be stopping and Hamas would be begging for a truce - and thats not happening. Either the general does not understand the English language well enough to correctly use the word "deterrence" in proper context, or worse, he does not understand the difference between "strategy" and "tactics". Deterrence is a Strategy. A "Longer period of calm" [what the arabs call a hudna] is a tactic to buy time from the dhimmis. When Kennedy forced Moscow to withdraw its missiles from Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis of the '60's, he was re-establishing American deterrence - and those missiles never showed up on our borders again. When Israel killed 4500 arabs in the massive bombing of PLO camps in Lebanon after the '72 massacre of the Israeli Olympic team - that was creating deterrence; and they never attacked the Olympics or Israeli athletes again. Obviously deterrence has not been created yet, or the rockets would have stopped. The rockets flying 75 or 100 miles from Gaza are not "local manufacture" as Yadlin claims, since the crude sugar-fertilizer rocket technology Gazastan uses for 5-10 mile range Kassams can not be scaled to that huge size - the propellant grains would crack on cooling and fail, further, due to low specific impulse, such a sugar motor rocket would weigh many tons, requiring transporter-erector trucks Gaza does not possess. These long range rockets are smuggled Syrian/Iranian products or are at a minimum using propellant grains of smuggled commercial military fuel chemistry that Gaza can not make, since they lack the complex chemical factories. Had Yadlin been worth his salt as an intelligence director, he would not be making statements like this. The ancient GRAD/katyusha/FROG rocket technology has existed since WW2, and was supplied to the Arabs from the 1950's onward in huge quantities. They never dared to fire them into Israeli cities for those nearly 50 years because they KNEW WHAT ISRAEL WOULD DO - namely, burn their cities to the ground, bomb them to rubble. This deterrence must be brutally reestablished by any means necessary, and that means not listening to Yadlin, whose past poor advice and weenie attitudes is a proximate cause of today's problem.
13. Time for truce Yadlin?
albert snow ,   sweden   (07.14.14)
Tell that to Hamas and the other islamists. They began the war so they have to stop it. They have to end rocket launches before Israel stops defending itself. Now negotiated truth. Such a truth would only make the islamist look like winners. Most important in any kind of truce is to have the palestinians see Hamas and the other islamists as losers. DonĀ“t forget there will not be any Peace will never be an option as long as Hamas is a islamonazi organistaion having genocide on jews in their program. And only the palestinians themselves can change that program. Sadly but truth.
14. a iranian conspiracy
attal ,   france paris   (07.14.14)
It is clear that Islamists have developed a conspiracy to destroy Israel and exterminate the Jews (who support it) with the help of a coalition led by Iran and supported by Obama and the EU It is first to make life impossible for Israeli and use their responses to demonize and delegitimize their presence in their ancestral land. restraint shown by Israel risks to perpetuate the crisis and give free rein to anti-Israeli agitation worldwide

20. IDIOT !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (07.14.14)
I Quote - It's time for a ceasefire Op-ed: If Israel's strategic purpose was to create deterrence, it seems to have achieved it at a minimal cost and should settle for that. The longer the battle, the bigger the chance for difficult, unexpected incidents. Comment - How many Truces should Israel continue to make, insted of setting the conflict once and for all ?. For How many more decades should this continue ? Arn.Sweden.
