1. Better tactic?
American Hindu ,   USA   (07.21.14)
May be you should keep using only air power.
2. send idf soldiers in the best equipment
alexi   (07.21.14)
outdated armoured carriers which did not protect the idf soldiers from rpg should see the officer who approved such equipment disiciplined. and gantz,s top with our psychologist apologies and get down to hard buisness. grab 100 gazans hostage to trade inc case idf soldier captured which is not confirmed Use suppressive gas munintions to pacify areas -use gazan drivers to trip hamas fortifications -slam antitank rockets into builiding before entering This is not a walk in the park. IDF soldiers should assume nothing, shoot first and then ask questions. They are doing it the other way around and are far too liberal and permissive. Stop telling hamas what we plan to do.
3. Wrong analysis
Alejandro ,   B Aires Argentina   (07.21.14)
From a distance, this campaign looks like a traditional ground battle: the first ten days (or about) for wakening the enemy (in this case, Hamas) mainly by air bombing, followed by ground assault. At this point, israelĂ attack seems to converge in pincers to the very center of the Strip, where the main gazan strongholds are located. If there is no truce, Hamas faces a clear and present danger of complete anihilation. The battle looks a small-scale Battle of Berlin.
4. Israel is letting Hamas run the conflict.
Moshe the Genuine   (07.21.14)
Netanyahu, is pursuing again and again the same bankrupted strategy as that of Rabin, Olmert and Barak. Until the 90s, Israel had a pursued the strategy of neutralizing any emerging "Palestinian" leadership before this leadership takes root and becomes a threat. With the advent of Oslo, Rabin chose to groom and educate a "Palestinians" leadership in hopes that this leader understand it cannot destroy Israel and see benefits of a coexistence. Israel needs a new leadership, a leadership that reverts to the successful pre-Oslo strategy. To make a long story short, just terminate current Hamas leadership and its successors until such successors become unexperienced and devote their time, efforts and resources to their survival.
5. Take Gaza
Dan   (07.21.14)
Only one thing will end this problem: the taking of all of Gaza. That will break Hamas; nothing else will. It will hurt Israel massively but 'ein breira' - there's no choice, and the result will be worthwhile. Nor would it be the last step: all Gaza Palestinians must be gradually transferred, with compensation, and Gaza integrated into Israel. Step 3: same for the West bank. Having offered a Palestinian state several times, Israel has been forced to this position, as intelligent people can easily see.
6. Israel is not clear in this conflict Nor hamas but less
Dan ,   Montevideo-R.O.U.   (07.21.14)
Both ( israel and Hamas) were dragged in this unexpected conflict at this moment Also hamas from gaza established that the kidnapping and murder of 3 yeshiva boys was unconvenient in this time and this was supposed to have been carried by 2 rogue affiliates motivated by their individual perverse initiative out of central hamas directives .Anyway PM of Israel accused ALL HAMAS while hamas nor denied nor confirmed it .After this came the murder of the young arab boy in Jerusalem by perverse ultraextremists from the hebrew side. And all this was like a molotov coktel directed towards the status quo more and less established .What or who armed this MOLOTOV cocktail ?? This is the most important subject to investigate or to think about .If not the deaths of the brave soldiers and civilian of Israel and the death of fighters and civilians from Gaza WILL BE IN VAIN AGAIN FOR BOTH SIDES .SHALOM
7. im tired of hearing on tv all the time all
guillermo ,   raanana israel   (07.21.14)
those stupid analysts and strategic commentators !!! instead of being shut up they are all the time giving ideas what should be done and which are the challenges the IDF must deal with while our enemy is watching at us . this is not a reality show and its a pity and repulsive what tv in israel has became into instead to keep the secrecy end
8. Incorrect statment
Guns devision ,   Australia   (07.21.14)
How the writer of this article can describe firing rockets from Gaza to Israel with his/her opinion saying the rockets caused nothing. Firstly, it did cause, spendig money to fire iron dome rocket in response. Secondly, this article purely biased, making look Gazian people so innocent and Israel the big scary devil. Do not forget if these people were following your type of approach. Most likely you would be dead.
9. Hamas IS leading the fight, but that's ok...
David ,   Hartford USA   (07.21.14)
since as long as Hamas chooses to launch rockets and terrorist commando raids, Israel has a free hand in sending them all to hell. It is a crying shame what Hamas is forcing Israel to do, but that was their plan all along. Hamas doesn't care how many Muslim bodies pile up, they never did. Israel should just focus on killing every last Gazan with a gun. Peace will be at hand when Gaza is disarmed.
10. Missed the Mark
Dan W ,   Los Angeles, CA   (07.21.14)
The article does not support the thesis at all. Bizarre.
11. unincitful and anti Israel and without a strategy and
jericho ,   causa   (07.21.14)
providing no new idea. A waist of time reading this.
12. DĂ©finition of the independence
Mohamed ,   Morocco   (07.21.14)
the independence should be taken by force , not by negociation as Mr Abbas is doing to loose time with a sionist
13. to 11
simsima   (07.21.14)
you read what it was written but you write what you are feeling or thinking ...it is all
14. to9 disarm ???
ruru   (07.21.14)
to attack you need a knife to defend you need a knife also .. i think abou mazen reach this basic note
15. What a sick way to put it
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.21.14)
What a sick way to put it. What is 'Hamas' running, Gaza in ruins, hospitals in panic situation, their dead and injured? Is it running the fact that they have invested a good share of their budget in a whole system meant to kill thousands of Israel which has by and large been neutralized? There is a strain of self- defeating cynicism in Barnea which especially comes out in relation to anything the Israeli government does.
16. to10
bisa   (07.21.14)
very simple -- to make a thesis you are looking on the doing .. but the bizarre is when you put the thesis and want to do the thesis..... i think hamas put thesis after doing but israil do the thesis first again i said this war must not be for killing only and i hope it will not be continued as killing only
17. Reading Barne is like watching re-runs of football games!
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.21.14)
18. I have something to add to this article
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.21.14)
I work with a woman that served in IDF intelligence as an observer and analyst on the fenceline with Gaza. She told me that she had identified the tunnel that was used to abduct Gilad Shalit. She brought the intel to her commanders, they shrugged it off as a water canal that the Pali farmers were building. The fact that ground sonar technology exists and existed during the Gaza pullout that can read down over a kilometer into the ground just speaks volumes on the neglect and stupidity of our leaders and officers. Our soldiers and citizens are being put at risk for the stupidity, arrogance, laziness, fat headed decisions that politicians and generals make.
19. Actually, Abbas is running the conflict
Shalom ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.21.14)
Abbas set up the unity government with Hamas. This is now the only government in Gaza and Abbas is paying its salaries. Abbas has not located the murderers of the three abducted Israeli teens. He allowed Hamas to continue to operate its tunnels and rockets. His UN envoy is instructed to seek an Israeli withdrawal that leaves all the Hamas terror infrastructure intact. So Abbas is indeed the problem and has no intention of contributing to a solution. Sorry, Mr. Barnea did not notice.
20. Idiot Barnea nonsense as usual,Hamas is not running anything
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (07.21.14)
21. Is Abbas the key?
Wade ,   NYC USA   (07.22.14)
According to the NY Times, Abbas has been discredited and vilified on the Arab street in the West Bank. This given, it is hard to imagine that he could hold sway with the Gazan population.
