Do you agree to this proposal.? If not why not!
2. Ceasefire
Morty Mooze ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.23.14)
Hamas terror leaders have $millions in Qatari banks. Money that was stolen from the people of Gaza. They have secret private airplanes so that they can flee when it gets too hot. They will leave the starving, homeless, and poor to their fate. The are certainly not interested in a ceasefire. Even 47 million dollars from the US wont make them move. The Hamas terror leaders have 100 times as much money stashed away in Qatar. Perhaps the US will up the offer to a 1000X as much, to make the terror henchmen take a little notice !
3. International force?
Ben S ,   Free World   (07.23.14)
You must be talking about UN peacekeepers. hahahahahahahah Seems when they find Hamas missiles in their schools they call Hamas to come and get them. Wake up and smell the coffee.
4. Sounds great, won't work
Moshe ,   USA   (07.23.14)
Great idea except it sounds like, "What if they gave a war and nobody came!?" We all know how good international forces work. Israel can't afford to allow the arabs to close BG Airport like this..hamas isn't even a country!!! They're a group of criminals. Israel is exercising her legitimate right of self defense.
5. Didn't Know John Kerry And Hussein Obama Wrote For You
David H ,   Marietta USA   (07.23.14)
Accept terms? Flat out NO WAY IN HELL! Bomb that hell hole to dust if you have to - that alone guarantees demilitarization that will be permanent. Then we can have peace. Surrender, Jewish kids die in the future.
6. Huh?
John   (07.23.14)
To accept or heed to one's political conditions is to, literally, lose a war. Israel would do this why? Because of public opinion? Article makes very little practical sense.
7. Accept Hamas' Terms
Janet Norris ,   Berkeley, U.S.A.   (07.23.14)
I agree with the article entirely.
8. Hamas will NEVER demilitarize !
Beth ,   USA   (07.23.14)
Forget the rest of the world and seek HaShem's opinion only !!
9. Accepting Hamas' terms?
SL ,   NY, NY   (07.23.14)
Your error is in the thinking that Hamas has a goal other than destroying Israel. The Levant do not want the same democracy and Judeo-Christian inspired rule that the west has. In this part of the world, Might is Right, and mightier is righter.
10. Stupid is as stupid does
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (07.23.14)
It seems as if Israeli politicians have nothing learned from the UNIFIL desaster.
11. BDY-read the Hamas program
albert snow ,   sweden   (07.23.14)
Hamas goal is turning Israel to an islamic state and kill all jews! It´s in fact an islamic nazi movement comitted to genocide. The organisation is build upon the foundations of islam. What you´re asking of the islamists nazis is to leave their understanding of islam. But that will never happen. They are religious fanatics. You´re nourishing nothing but an illusion based on pure stupidity. How in the hell can you ever belive the´ll change their program and beliefs if Israel is showing weakness! Every attempt to submitt to their demands will only make them more comitted to pursue the genocidal ambitions made up in their program.
12. NO TO HAMAS!
Chana Levin ,   Toronto Canada   (07.23.14)
Your assumption is that your new next door neighbour of Hamas will stay there. Do you not understand their aim is to spread, yes to Tel Aviv too, Do you think you will able to control their infiltration. How many tunnels have the IDF blown up already? Marry Hamas & they will kill you.
13. pubic opinion does not interest me
nathan ,   natanyah   (07.23.14)
I am not interested in pubic opinion, I am interested that my sons and my neighbors, sons come back alive. and that I and my neighbors are not bombed again. what the world thinks at this time, is not important to me, it is the well being of my neighbors, my family and my people that is important, the pubic opinion is the least of my worries today (and tomorrow and next year, too)
14. What is this? A personality contest?
Chaim ,   Arad   (07.23.14)
Hamas: We will fight with restraint. We want all tunnels to be opened and free so we can come in and kill whoever without resistance. Then free electric, water, food, and of course the latest weapons. Also we want the Iron Dome dismantled. Then, you cease, and we fire.
15. "A generous Israeli proposal will only benefit Israel.
A ,   Belgium   (07.23.14)
if Hamas surprises us and accepts it" Israel is not in a position to speculate about the motives of Hamas or Fatah or to play "what if" games. The enemies motives are and always have been very clear even though their methods may be different: The destruction of the Jewish State of Israel, either through diplomatic dishonesty or violence. What Mr.Yemini naievely proposes is for Israel to hand Hamas the gun with which to shoot Israel in the head with. When both Fatah and Hamas are ready to recognize Israel for what it is, the nation-State of the Jewish people, than Israel may be ready to accept "terms" from its enemies. Until then, may Israel be victorious in eradicating the "palestinian" terrorists in Yesha.
16. Who side are you on?
Robert ,   farmington   (07.23.14)
Israel has already lost to many lives and you want Israel to accept Hamas terms, no...no...no...no... finish Hamas off your got them by the tail.
17. Hamas
Brian Smith ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.23.14)
BenDror Yemini seems to be a very poor student of history! When did international guarantees ever benefit Israel. When Hillary Clinton negotiated a cease fire in Gaza or when Condeleeza Rice negotiated Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon they told us that the rockets would stop. In both cases rearmament started before their planes landed in DC!
18. WHY should we accept Hamas' terms?
Irene ,   Las Vegas, USA   (07.23.14)
To win public opinion? How naïve are you???
19. International Force
Isaac Balbin ,   Melbourne, Australia   (07.23.14)
What Mr Yemini has failed to do in this article is present any evidence that an external peace keeping force is a) capable of demilitarising Gaza b) can be trusted On b) one only needs to look at Lebanon for a counter example, a powerful one. There are plenty.
20. stupidity
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (07.23.14)
come on now, public opinion is important, but just how important? there is no way to guarantee that there will be a demilitarization for a cease fire in Gaza. Just the opposite will be the case, Hamas will hide their rockets from observers and built up more. Do you really believe anything less than victory, will bring peace? Say NO to a cease fire, and YES to getting rid of Hamas! Let us finish this job once and for all!
21. This op-eds accompanying photo
aliza ,   Israel   (07.23.14)
shows why Israel should not accept a ceasefire now
22. Ben-Dror , what are you smoking?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (07.23.14)
Israel MUST destroy Hamas , once and for all!!!
23. Hamas will never accept Demilirization
Zechariah   (07.23.14)
Hamas will never accept Demilitirization.A humanitarian lull is possible lasting months .Israel withdraws from the Gaza Strip and the Rockets Stop. .Thats the Basic.
24. Editor wishful thinking let us know when you have come back
Michael   (07.23.14)
25. israel offered what yemini advised-hamas said no
milson   (07.23.14)
another lawyer, olmert, lvini, herzog, these olsoists got israel into this trouble in the first place with unilateral withdrawals and that cursed oslo. Yemini like peres is disconnected from reality. Hamas wants ownership of the whole land with most jews kicked save a few arab asskissers.read what avineri who is almost 80 now realizes he was wrong that the arabs don't want 2 states. After all of this experience, yemini says reward hamas for firing 2000 rockets and killing 3 unarmed israeli kids. Yemini is a basket case like olmert and livni.
26. Wins the award
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (07.23.14)
for out-of-the-box thinking but doesn't really consider the potential downsides: A politically strengthened Hamas + the typically useless International forces unable or unwilling to enforce anything. Worth considering though to investigate how much the international community are willing to put their soldiers lives where their mouths are.
27. Hamas accepting demilitarization?
Alan ,   Canada   (07.23.14)
This would be very surprising to say the least. Since when does a despotic regime survive by any other means than power, corruption & propaganda?. Giving up it weapons can only be seen as a death sentence for the regime & for all the material privileges enjoyed by the ruling class & other rogue leaders. In addition who is to trust an international force to implement the demilitarization of the Hamas. The same force which so miserably failed to do it in Hezbollah controlled Lebanon? Demilitarization, if it can be achieved at all, will not be by concessions. With the likes of Hamas only unrepairable defeat has favorable odds on its side.
28. Total Israeli victory is the only solution.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.23.14)
Had Israel kept Gaza, as patriots urged, NONE of our Gaza wars, rockets and terror would have occurred. The author offers more of the same appeasing leftist lunacy which caused all our suffering in the first place. The only value of leftist opinion is as a reverse barometer. There is only one true path to peace. Total Israeli victory over "Palestinians". Stop the insane flow of Israeli support to Fictional Palestine and it would soon collapse at our feet.
29. a different approach
Zsolt ,   Wanganui,NZ   (07.23.14)
I do not want to, can't comment on the success of the proposal, what I don't understand is the motivation behind it. Why should Israel, Jews always act according to the external public opinion, trying to please others? Why can't we instead try to build a national unity, build on our historic traditions and purpose and solve our problems based on them? Who in the "International Community" has the moral ground, purity these days to demand, question anybody, or recommend solutions? A united Israel in mutual guarantee, adhering to its founding principles and laws could become a beacon for the rest of the world.
30. This is the only way
nckersh ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.23.14)
Ben-Dror Yemini is correct. This is the only solution. The military option is there, and Israel can pursue it until the job is done, but how many more civilians and soldiers will have to die? And what will happen at the end? We'll have to negotiate with Hamas anyway. They will have to demilitarize, and Israel will have to lift the blockage. Why not just jump to the end game saving hundreds, and possibly thousands of lives in the process?
