Mr Giora does forget that after victory the US did a dezanification of Germany. That did mean ocupation for decades. In Gaza after victory Israel should do de de hamanization of Gaza. Guerrila would ensue. Is Israel prepared to pay the price of more decades of occupation ? I do not think so. So the paralel between Gaza war and US / Germany / Japan war makes no sense. Besides Israel has been waging war against Gaza civilians. Not just hamas as Mr Giora claims. Wholle neighborhoods destroyed.., 3 wars in 6 years.., dronnes over Gaza day after day...; This is colective punishement. So the solution is not more war, more death , more destruction. The solution is the oposite : Armistice with Hamas or whoever does govern Gaza. Lifting of the embargo. Start a mutually benefical relationship and not a mutually destructive relationship. Israel does not supply gas/water/electricity out of the goodness of its heart. It supplies those things because it has physically removed control of them from the people who should control them, the Gazans. THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT AND REASON WHY GAZANS SUPPORT HAMAS. If supplies were cut, prisons emptied into Gaza and left ti the IAF I don't think there would have been the necessity of a ground op at all. And if I was wrong due the tunnels the war would have come to a halt much sooner. Even now hamas is launching rockets into Isrsel. Why not as Gaza eats.

Hamas came to power in free elections by the people of Gaza on the platform of.....''the annihilation of Israel'. So, the people of Gaza knew whom they were voting for and why, but although they got 'whom they didn't get 'what they voted for (thank G-d)! That's their problem .....and that of the International Community who 'tolerates Israel & Jews, but doesn't really accept them, due to a centuries old genetic disorder. That's the reason why in the end Israel is ALWAYS condemned & stopped by the International Community for not letting the Palestinians from Gaza do their job. Amidst all the hatred emanating from both sides your post hits the nail on the head. The continuation of this war depends on a capacity to eliminate empathy, to see others as like ourselves. In partucular, it is to see one group of children as unlike another group of children. No such thing as 'innocent civilians???? Oh, yes, I forgot how politically powerful young children are. Giora Eiland is spot on with his analysis. Any people in any area of the world are responsible for the country they have built. Both Israel and the int'l community have absolved the Palestinians of responsibility for their actions. Then they wonder why they behave irresponsibly. If Gazans decide to go to war, they must face the full consequences of that decision. If they fail to grow enough food to feed themselves they should go hungry. If they fail to work they should be left penniless. It is the only way they will learn to behave responsibly.

What a wishful thinking on your part to think that the reason the Gazans elected Hamas is because Israel took control of their gas/water/electricity capabilities. It's wishful thinking because by that you actually attribute a legitimate reason for electing Hamas. Unfortunately for you and for us Israelis, the "Palestinians" don't operate in such a sensible manner and what you wrote is flat wrong. It's actually the other way around - the reason why Israel started to limit movement and control of things in Gaza is BECAUSE Hamas was elected when there was NO siege, no restrictionns on Gazans, open sea, open air (they even has an airport in Gaza), tens of thousands of Gazans crossing freely into Israel daily to work, etc. etc. So why was Hamas was elected then? NOT because anything that Israel did, but because: 1. The Gazans were fed up with the typical corrupt regime of the PLO in Gaza. 2.
