1. Sounds like Hamas got another haircut
Doesn't look like much has been achieved for all the destruction. Hamas won't disarm. There won't be a lifting of the blockade. So, the violence will return in the future when Hamas gets another haircut. Abbas doesn't get a haircut because for the time being he restrains violence on the West Bank. The way out of this cycle is through diplomacy and peace but Palestinians are content to con the West into believing they want it while in reality they reject a Jewish majority Israel.

2. you have to give it to Hamas's
cunning stunts or is it the other way round? They told Mr Kerry after they agreed to the ceasefire that they did not agree to a ceasefire as long as Israeli forces were inside Gaza. A slight discrepancy here that was discovered after they broke it and sent a suicide bomber in an attempt to capture a soldier. Now another cunning stunt ( or is it the other way round) is in the pipeline when they will claim the prospective agreement gave them the right to import heavy weapons . Only a poor shmuck would put pen to paper with Hamas.

The blockade of the Gaza Strip will not be lifted.
There will be no increase to the absurdly large amount of humanitarian aid that Israel already permits into Gaza.
There will be no Gaza "port."
There will be no Gaza "airport."
There WILL be an end to Hamas' war criminal acts; there WILL be an end to Hamas' crimes against humanity.
Hamas WILL repatriate the remains of Israel's soldiers. Otherwise, all bets are off, and Gaza will be rendered significantly the worse for wear.
We CAN turn out the lights in Gaza. We CAN cut off all fresh water shipments.
So -- our soldiers need to come home. Hamas does not want us to come in again and retrieve them. If we have to resort to that, there won't be much left standing in Gaza.

Why are they avoiding the very obvious issue? PA elections in Gaza and the West Bank are about five years overdue. Why is anyone negotiating with a govt whose term ended about five years ago? In which democratic state are elections cancelled indefinitely?

11. war,diplomacy and politics
When our soldiers are in the field in a just war some of us/most of us defer to the leadership, political and military.
But wars must also be followed by diplomacy and here differences of opinion exist. I think the lines are being drawn between Bennett, anxious for elections along with Likud pisher hawks. Bibi, Ya'alon, Livini and Lapid are now interested in parlaying military gains (and there are many) into regional diplomatic advances. (Lieberman the opportunitst knows his electoral stock is dropping so he is in no position to bolt the government.) So my prediction is look for Bennett to pull out, Lieberman to vascilate into irrelevancy while Bibi reaches out to Labor to keep the present Knesset going for another year or two.

There was a 95% plus support for the war when the end game was thought to be the elimination or disarmament of Hamas. Now a new number comes into play. It appears that 65 dead Jews was the correct number before the cabinet would negotiate with terrorists.
Politics without honor or morality. The dead are just numbers.
No one will blame the UN or the US. The security cabinet was in charge of this.

This guy should be Prime Minister. He speaks the obvious truth and makes sense. Why should Hamas receive any concessions or appeasement for shooting thousands of rockets into Israel and trying to slaughter Jews? You can't negotiate with these guys. You can't give them anything. The deal should be simple. Stop attacking us or your are finished.

18. we must face reality not seek morality
zionist forever |
|
|
(08.12.14) |
Whilst its true giving Hamas salaries is rewarding terror and MORALLY its wrong to give it but at the same time we are having to deal with REALITY.
Reality is if we want to end this we need to make some concessions because international politics is about problem solving not morals and sometimes to solve a problem we need to put morals to one side.
We need to make clear to Abbas that as he has formed a unity government with Hamas he os responsible for their actions, he cannot brush it off as Hamas in Gaza and me in Ramalah we are not connected.
It essential we do this because Abbas wants to sign up to the International Court charge Israel with war crimes.
If he is officially responsible for Hamas then he won't be so quick to do that because he will know it works both ways
and we can take him to court.

you have a incompetent, impotent, scared "government", thinking by surrendering they can stay in power. just look around the world. good old europe is worse now, then in 1933! the rest of the world is not better either. ONLY STRENGHT AND DETERMINATION CAN SAVE ISRAEL.

What Netanyahu understands, that his critics don't, is that these talks have little to do with Hamas but are necessary to protect Israel from its so-called allies in the West.

People seem to have forgotten that Israel left Gaza 9 years ago. There were thriving plantations there for the Gazans to continue cultivating! did they do that? NO! they didn't.
Israel has been supplying electricity and commodities all these years. Were they appreciated? NO they were abused.
Hamas is a TERRORIST oganization hell bent on the destruction of Israel.
No one should EVER negotiate ANYTHING with terrorists. It's saying that they have a standing. They don't.
They just want to kill!!! KILL KILL KILL
What's so difficult to understand about that?! No moral and ethical and sane person should have a problem with that!! We must wake up and act before all values are completely lost.

24. #18 Reality is Abbas will seek boycotts+sanctions on Israel
A Palestinian leader has to show his people that he is doing something to destroy Israel. Abbas doesn't want to bring destruction on the West Bank by terrorizing Israel like Hamas. Israel isn't going to hand him the West Bank and Jerusalem for nothing which is what he wants for now. Arab armies aren't going to attack Israel now. So, Abbas will engage in diplomatic moves at the UN or elsewhere trying to bring sanctions and boycotts on Israel. He would rather upset Israel than his own people.

Gaza must be demilitarized.
No building supplies should be allowed into the Strip; let the people live in tents in the streets. When they get tired of it, they will rise up against Hamas.
No payment of salaries to Hamas "officials." Hamas' leadership have billions of dollars in offshore bank accounts. Let them pay the salaries.
Egypt has absolutely no intention of easing the hermetically sealed border at Rafah. They know exactly what they're dealing with in Gaza. Israel should follow suit.
Israel should end all humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israel should also cut off the supply of free electricity and free fresh water.
Only when the people of Gaza have been brought to their knees should Israel relax the restrictions. Israel is not responsible for the plight of the people of Gaza; Hamas is. Israel's obligation is to the Jewish people, especially the beleaguered communities targeted by Hamas. Let the Arabs care for their own.
