Well, all nations aren't subjected to daily missile and mortar barrages, are they? But the sovereign State of Israel is -- which makes it Israel's exclusive decision. The blockade will not be lifted. Hamas will be destroyed -- and, if necessary, Gaza along with it. The safety and security of Israeli civilians is paramount. The fate of the civilians of Gaza -- to the extent there are any, which is doubtful -- rests solely with Hamas and Islamic Jihad. If they don't care about their civilians, why should Israel? But the missile fire must end -- no preconditions. The terrorist elements in Gaza must surrender unconditionally. Or their suffering continues. Exactly the demand of the Allied forces arrayed against Nazi Germany, remember? Good historical precedent for Israel to issue the identical demand for complete and unconditional surrender.

Next, you'll be demanding that Israel dismantle Iron Dome because it is interfering with the terrorists' ability to inflict damage on Israeli civilians. By the way -- the last thing on earth you want is a ground invasion. Because if Israel brings in serious artillery and infantry, there won't be two bricks left standing one atop the other. What you've seen thus far is approximately three percent of Israel's available troop strength. Would you like us to raise it to five percent? Israel allowed all the terrorist scum in Gaza -- that's pretty much everybody -- to paint themselves into a corner. Your much-vaunted missiles are getting knocked down by Iron Dome, or are allowed to fall harmlessly in open fields. The devastation that Hamas thought it could wreak on Israeli cities just hasn't materialized. On the other hand, Hamas is running out of missiles and places to build them, not to mention materials with which to build them. They are also running low on commanders -- amazing, isn't it, how Israel can pick them off at will -- and all Israel has to do is stop sending humanitarian aid into Gaza -- we'll starve them out. We'll also cut off electricity and stop supplying fresh water. Hamas complains about the "siege" of Gaza, but there is no siege. There is a fully legal and internationally recognized embargo, but that is not going to be lifted. If Hamas wants a siege, they'll get a siege. But Gaza will be rendered terrorist-free. Whatever it takes. How long it takes, and the degree of suffering, is entirely up to the people of Gaza. Israel won this round, sluggo, and guess what? It's the last round. Game, set and match to Israel.
13. Amos Yadlin is correct
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.14)
Israel has changed its game plan. There's considerably more to clean up in Gaza before Israel will allow itself to be muscled into a cease fire. The silence from Arab states -- with the exception of Qatar, of course -- has been absolutely deafening. Everyone realizes that it is time for Hamas to fold up its tents. Gaza will be demilitarized. Because the only other option is that Israel will reoccupy Gaza, annex it, and deport any civilians to the doubtless welcoming arms of their supporters in Qatar. The European Union can be pressured to take some in, too. Everyone realizes that Israel will not tolerate constant missile and mortar fire on its civilian population centers. Iron Dome has performed brilliantly, but everyone is aware of what might have been had Israel not had Iron Dome. Oh, there would be no devastation in Israel's cities -- but there would be nothing left alive in Gaza. In that regard, Israel has demonstrated considerable restraint. ISIS is a growing threat. The crisis in Syria is deepening. You're going to see significant strategic shifts in the Middle East -- but not overtly. A number of countries are looking to Israel to reduce the threat posed by ISIS, and they are not averse to dropping Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the rest of the terrorists that operate in Gaza like a bad habit. Qatar benefits from the fact that the U.S. Navy sits off its coast. Were the U.S. to move its vessels to, say, Jeddah, the emir of Qatar would be considerably less welcoming to terrorists. Crucial to the shifts in the middle east is one key: nations do not have friends; nations have interests. Hamas does not serve any nation's interests. Israel does. Fickle are the ways of the world ....
14. One cannot bargain with jihadist psychopaths.
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.22.14)
Hamas tries to slaughter Jews any way it can. It murders its own citizens on trumped up charges- just to keep the rest in line. There is no rational reason to trust anything Hamas says about peace when they proclaim their love of death. Peace will come to Gaza when every supporter and member of Hamas is dead. It's the only way. Assad is killing hundreds of thousands trying to stamp out Syria's jihadist psychopaths- Israel may have no choice but to do the same in Gaza. The global jihadist wars have begun. IS, Hamas, Fatah, al Qaeda, etc., all have but one goal- deliver the earth unto Islam. The west cannot lose this fight. It's high time we take off the kid gloves and wipe this scourge from the planet. And any regime, any country, that financially supports these psychopaths should have a forced regime change. It would be nice if the UN remembered what it was created for.
15. Hamas should already notice that...
manicdrummer ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.22.14)
...the only supporters they have aren't exactly rushing to their aid with weapons. All they're doing is protesting and they're protesting mostly out of peer pressure. Eventually, they'll just stay home and play more Nintendo.
16. Where are the talkbacks?
Adler S   (08.23.14)
Yesterday were at least 18 comments mine among others. Never mind! It seems this ynet talkbacks are like our prime minister Netanyahu, you have no strategy! And i have noticed you didnt post my comments in reference to the 15 archeologist from spain and europe that were helping Hamas go dig tunnels. I will be watching you ynet Ps: and stop publishing Khaled Meshal comments! Do not do propaganda to hamas! I dont care if khaled meshal or haniye made comments to yahoo instead of ynet. No more cover for terrorist leaders.
17. Netanyahu needs a diplomatic solution
Zionist forever   (08.22.14)
Fact is the economy cannot handle a long ongoing war certainly if it involves reservists being called up because even the reservists have jobs to go to. What is needed is to hit Hamas very hard now and let supervised humanitarian aid into Gaza. No bad diplomatic deals with Qatar, Obama, Abbas or anybody else at worst we go back to the prewar blockade and accept minimum rockets, We also need to return to regular targeted killing a policy we'd stopped years ago. Tell Hamas for every rocket fired we kill one of yours, doesn't matter how junior or senior they are it's about statistics 1 rocket = 1 Hamas life, will also scare the junior members if we go after them also because they feel safe so might affect membership.
18. King Bibi the Weak should consider Hyena's words
A ,   Belgium   (08.22.14)
an invitation to do some SERIOUS and long lasting damage to Gaza, including targeting the hospital that Hyena is hiding under. I hope he accepts the invitation.
19. No ceasefire until there aren't enough "palestinians"
A ,   Belgium   (08.23.14)
left to bother shooting at.
20. Just as cancer goes into remission,
DvorahTheProphetess ,   SC, USA   (08.22.14)
the cancer of Hamas "retreats" into brief remissions, only to recur time and time again. We all know that there is only ONE effective treatment to eradicate cancer: RADIATION.
21. ceasefire
john ,   toronto   (08.23.14)
No ceasefire talks should start until Israel is given full sovereignty on the Temple Mount. It is of no use to the Arabs. If the Arab and Muslim world will agree to this , then negotiations can start on all topics. And agreement will not be reached in days ,but it is better than bringing loss of lives and property to both sides.
22. Cairo
john ,   toronto   (08.23.14)
Israel should not send any delegation to Cairo till unconditional and full sovereignty of the Temple mount is given to Israel. It is a problem for the Muslims and their governments if it is not given to Israel.
