Zechariah   (09.02.14)
The security for the whole of Israel is insufficient and huge underground homes and factories are needed step by step .As for The IDF we ought be in Awe of them but no anti Missile Protection On armed Personell carriers was a Disgrace .There were excessive civilian Deaths and Injuries in the Gazans Arab Area if Danoch wants Deterranve eliminate the Leadership Combatants and Holocaust Deniers with Extreme Skill in Targetted Hits .
2. Spin it any way.. it was still criminal
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (09.02.14)
The spin masters seem hard at work but the world knows it witnessed one of the most disgusting examples of organised crime ever. It has proved that Israel is a threat to world survival and must be stripped of its nuclear weapons.
3. Hamas victory
Amram ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.02.14)
I am hoping the Arabs realize they can have a victory and a celebration without destroying Israel and killing all the Jews. The beginning of coexistence?
4. Israel and Middle East after last Gaza war
DANNS ,   Montevideo   (09.03.14)
Still we dont know for real the effects of the Gazas war between arabs extremistics from Gaza and IDF .Meanwhile, another extremistic arab group is getting stronger in north of Israel borders and its not the (in) famous ISIL or ISIS.Its a syrian branch of Al Qaeda called Al Nusra (like the africane somalian al shabab, another islamic branch of the former ) Not to precipitate like i suggested before in Gazas war is the best recomendation for Medinat Israel Cabinet .War needs to be the very last resource, the very very last after all other mean was exhausted without any doubts Study well the situation before coming again with a wrong foot .Good article of Ynet News

7. Just one battle in an ongoing war.
manicdrummer ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.02.14)
No one can claim victory yet, but so far, Hamas is taking a beating.
8. The strategy...
eddiE ,   sa   (09.02.14)
Before bombing only ONE high rise , they should have dropped leaflets on ALL the high rises in the city ,keep them guessing - and provoke them as they provoke us
9. Only juntas and fascist regimes use
Miron ,   USA   (09.02.14)
military operations as a measure of success or failure. Stop talking of Gaza as an act of policies. It was, it is, and it always will be a matter of self - defense. There is nothing to discuss, except publish reports of investigation committee. Military wise this operation was unbelievable weak and un - professional. Because we killed more civilians on Gaza side than we ever did in previous operations, and my most sincere hope ever will in the future ones, to attain what we could. It was unbelievable to watch what was going on. Sad, shameful, and heart wrenching.
10. common man
john ,   toronto   (09.02.14)
How does it affect the common man of Israel or Palestine whether Israel lost or won.
11. If autonomy is given or declared
DOV ,   USA   (09.02.14)
then we can defeat them as an enemy. The way it is now it seems like we're playing a waiting game until Hamas and Hizbollah hit us form both sides or a short or long term lull in gorilla warfare. I guess it is up to the intelligence community to keep an eye out. Keep it up Ron. Your articles are a reality check and an inspiration of hope. Israel forever.
12. Gaza III was a ridiculous exercise
EFBarasch ,   Sacramento USA   (09.02.14)
The IDF did absolutely NOTHING to degrade Hamas' war-fighting capablities. All their essential assets including their command and control apparatus was kept safe in tunnels in Gaza and both Netanyahu and the IDF General Sraff flinched at the prospect of going after the tunnels in Gaza. Thus, any pretense that Gaza III was a success is so much hot air. Killing a bunch of people and destroying above ground structures were irrelevant.
13. Superb analysis

15. Hamas know we won and are just trying to save face
Zionist forever   (09.02.14)
Hamas have taken a real pounding and military goals achieved. The public expected to much and that's what hurt Bibi. The goal was never topple Hamas out if fear they would be replaced by a group like ISIS, the plan was hurt them and bring calm for 3-4 years and that was cabinet plan not just Bibi. We could have kept fighting but the cost would have been the lives of hundreds of soldiers, kidnappings & huge economic cost and the public would then be demanding Bibi end the war. Did we want dead soldiers or hurting Hamas ? What is needed now us for a way to be found to secure the border communities
16. good, solid analysis. Israel & IDF scored a major victory..
Rafi ,   US   (09.02.14)
... meanwhile the nay-sayers in Israel (including columnist Shimon Sheffer) can go back into their caves. As far as Hamas and what they are CLAIMING (vs. reality)... who cares? Besides the Hizbollah victory celebrations in 2006... how about the same by the PLO in 1982-3 as they left Beirut on their way to exile in Tunis? As you say: "been there, seen it before..."
17. excellent article
CJK   (09.02.14)
total victory over gaza terrorists cannot be achieved at this point. first, they will continue to receive arms, training and moneys from bad actors in the region, including iran and qatar. second, israel cannot be tied down in gaza for a substrantial amount of time given the dangerous situation in the north and the issue of iran's nuclear weapons program.
18. above
moishe   (09.02.14)
no! you can't win unless you wage total war. USA and EU will not let you. simple. Israel wins by beating back an aggressor and giving it a good reason to stay strong and alive. a high price to pay in people, wealth and nerves. Hamas wins because it is still alive despite a good beating. the people of Gaza lose because they have suffered needless death and destruction once again. and once again they will remain impoverished and classed as destitute instead of enjoying a good economy and peace. I suspect that Hamas will rearm with Iran and other donors. they will begin terrorist operations soon. much of Moslem ME will be in turmoil. all in the name of Allah. kill and destroy. pity.
19. The people of Gaza are not stupid
Zooog ,   USA   (09.05.14)
They can see the massive destruction. For what?
20. Delusional Morris
Donald Walsh ,   New York, USA   (09.05.14)
You are delusional. Hamas starts the war by firing missiles at Israel. Fires them no less from schools, hospitals and homes. Forces the population to remain in the homes that Israel has warned them to vacate. In addition, Hamas did not build even one bomb shelter to protect its population but was able to build a vast network of tunnels. Further, plans were found showing that Hamas was going to enter Israel through these tunnels with maybe over 1-200 fighters to kill and abduct Israeli citizens on the eve of the Jewish new year. And you say that Israel is the criminal? Maybe you are simply angry that due to the Iron Dome, not enough Jews were killed!
21. Winners and Loosers
Bruce ,   Chicago USA   (09.05.14)
Contemporary wars in the ME do not have winners and loosers, everyone suffers in different ways. Israelis and Pals both continue to exist and seek improved methods to inflict and avoid future causalties. Each side spins the post war news to their interests. We don't see results as they are, we see them them as we are. This is the way of the world today, so adjust your thinking and hold on tight.
