2. we are all slaves
jochair ,   kfar saba Israel   (09.15.14)
we are all slaves of the government.we must do exactly as they say. but you must see the 6200 protests as a way to a more humanitarian way of life. I don't need security to protect my slave existence. when motivation is lost with the soldiers the country and government all fall. I s that what you want ?
3. Expenses of Protective Edge
(09.15.14)
Whoever started the conflict/war pays for the conflict/war, actual and punitive damages. That's the way judgements go. There should be an understanding and payment plan before any reconstruction of the aggressor habitat.
4. Same in States during VietNam war - ran away to Canada
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (09.15.14)
Conscientious objectors were treated as criminals - they illegally decided on their own that they knew what was best for the country. More Anat Kam's are not what Israel needs.
5. France24Tv inerviewed Gilad Halperin
FrenchTvLovesIt ,   Jerusalem Israel   (09.15.14)
Yesterday French24TV interviewed Gilad Halperin from Tel Aviv speaking in a South African accent he told how he was being persecuted and how he suffered for his brave stance and the Moslem female moderator poured praises on him and worried for his safety.
6. The writing on the wall as seen in History
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.15.14)
"Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said Monday he has instructed IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz to handle the 8200 unit conscientious objectors as criminals". The term "undermining military force" (Zersetzung der Wehrkraft) was established in the law by the Wartime Special Penal Code (Kriegssonderstrafrechtsverordnung or KSSVO) on August 17, 1938. It criminalized, particularly within the Wehrmacht's military justice, all criticism, dissent and behavior opposed to the Government's political and military leadership.
7. ALL Jews must support the IDF-if it weren't for the IDF

8. All this hype for increased defense budgets is also politica
Bruno ,   Haifa   (09.15.14)
It is more than a little disingenuous to claim that when OTHERS use ethical and moral questions for political purposes this is somehow immoral, illegal (perhaps even fattening?). Yet what the defense establishment and Bibi himself are doing is precisely that - they are playing on our security and defense heartstrings to get more and more funding for the military. All this talk of our being equivalent to x aircraft carriers in the Middle East is turning Israel more and more into a fortified army camp. No wonder there's no money for health or education or the poor.
9. THIS IS THE WAY IT REALLY IS.
Dyslexic ,   Israel .......   (09.15.14)
We fought our asses off during the Yom Kippur war,to give those spoilt brats a life in Israel .We did not complain and we never asked for anything Those kids well educated who wrote that stuff were brought up with a sliver spoon up there assess maybe they are from rich homes Savyon ,Herzlia. So it give them the wright to say what they want, with a disregard for the country.

john ,   toronto   (09.15.14)
Wars are not cheap, but if a state want to fight wars it should be privately funded by those who profit from it.
12. WOW - US Similarities - Poof
Mark ben Josef ,   USA   (09.15.14)
US actions in Iraq from 2003 on have been political. And US soldiers were known to talk to the US press, mostly anonymously, sometimes for attribution. Frequently ethics and morality is the heart of US politics. Guess the cultural similarities between the US and Israel have mostly disappeared. Current US Intel practices are entirely political in the US. Even Congress has been surprised by the Snowden revelations on methods and CIA spying on Congress.

17. Will they be sent to military jail like haredi refuseniks
(09.15.14)
or secular leechers draft dodgers are immune and may do whatever they wish as long as they're secular.
18. Ya'alon instructs IDF chief to handle 8200 refusniks as crim
Daniel Santacruz ,   Maale Adumim, Israel   (09.15.14)
The word refuseniks is wrongly used in this article. It is used to describe Soviet Jews whose visas to Israel were denied in the 1970s-1980s. The word to describe that IDF unit should be "refusers" or "renagades." Please change for the sake of accuracy. Cordially, Daniel

A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.15.14)
Yes, it is frightening to have someone of Ya'alon's stature claim that: "Ethical and moral dilemmas...[are] against the law," . When top government members stand up and say out loud that dissent is illegal it paves the way to dictatorship. Our democracy is already in danger. Ya'alon has just made the descent to despotism that much more steep and slippery. It is not just the ultra-orthodox that want to control our thoughts...
20.  Leaders who fail to motivate
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (09.15.14)
soldiers have a part of responsibility.
21. #2,9 = this is a new reality,Facebook,Gay Parades...
Z.Lazkow ,   Israel   (09.15.14)
There is no escape from this. It will happen again and again and again... 47 yrs of controlling West Bank. Can israel control it for another 47 yrs ? I'm sure, it won't be able to continue to control for another 10 years. It makes many many people stop and think, how is it possible that in almost 50 years Israel didn't find a solution???...and continue to deploy same tactics as in 1970s ??? It has nothing to do if some of these guys come from rich families. There were plenty of Rich families before 1973 war. Hertzlia Pituach did exist, Savion did exist, big companies did exist... It's a new reality and way of life that affect young people. Many avoid doing military service. This didn't exist 40-50-60 yrs ago. Draft should be cancelled and replaced with Professional Army. Then Israel will have highly highly motivated people, who will do the very best. IT IS a NEW REALITY. Period. Do Israeli leaders have some brains in their heads ???
22. #15, VERY GOOD POINT!
Z.Lazkow ,   Israel   (09.15.14)
23. 21 That soldiers must be motivated ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (09.16.14)
is not a new reality. In the Tora , written a few thousand years ago, we see that soldiers who fear to fight must be send home because they harm the spirit of the army. We can't expect from leaders --------- who are unable to motivate refuzniks [for conscience reasons], to contribute effectively , while respecting their belief,, ---------to have the right mind to win wars. . Putting Jews in prison because their belief, benefits only our real enemies. The Israeli people is composed of many different ingredients and if we know how to use them we will witness the realisation of a great victorious " Am Israel Hai"
