1. el al flight regulations
jo moor   (09.30.14)
Obey the international flight regulations for passengers: all must be seated and strapped in with seatbelts. Those standing must vacate the plane of their own accord or by force and be arrested. Very simple. Very effective if the regulations are adhered to.
2. This is not discrimination but halachah
Moe   (09.30.14)
from the same Torah that specifies the food you may eat, the words we speak, the days one may work and the holy days one must observe. If El Al will continue harassing religious Jews, they should expect a huge drop of people using their airline.
3. better options available
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (09.30.14)
I fly El-Al to the East. Never, but never to the West. For the same money, and often cheaper, the traveler to the US and Europe has far more comfortable options. Sitting next to women is only one of the problems. When the wife and 4 children sit in one part of the plane and the husband in another the walking they do from the back to the front and back again, would cover virtually half the distance to where they are flying.
4. Easyjet from London was exactly the same, delayed 30 mins
L6 ,   Netanya, ISRAEL   (09.30.14)
refusing to sit next to women, the flight was delayed 30 minutes with all the seat swapping and endless moving bags overhead.. Easyjet staff even announced mid flight about a minyan in 5 minutes and to be ready... thats new!
5. Simple solution
Eli ,   Haifa. Israel   (09.30.14)
I stopped using EL-AL years ago, just vote with your feet.
6. I was a passenger on that plane
David ,   NY   (09.30.14)
My wife and I were passengers on the flight. The behavior of the harideem was disgraceful. They were rude and obnoxious to the cabin crew and were harassing women.,My wife refused to move. Why should we be made to sit apart to accommodate some religious lunatic who doesn't know how to behave in accordance of the law. They had no respect for any other passengers other than themselves. I now look at these people with disgust. They have lost my respect.
7. It's not El Al's fault !

8. KIS: Keep It Simple
GF ,   Jerusalem   (09.30.14)
Why doesn't ELAL simply setup a Men's only (or Women's only) booking option at the back* of the plane and charge an $10 extra. I (Charedi) would be very happy to pay $10 extra to know that, as happened on my last flight to the US, I don't need to worry that a woman may fall asleep and slouch over into my seat. * I say the back of the plane since I really don't care where I sit, and this will make the secular happy.
9. to Moe #2
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (09.30.14)
Yeah... find another airline and do us all a favor. Find an airline that that will give you what El-Al gives you. Try demanding from women passengers that they move to different seats to accommop0date Haredim. Try it just once and then wonder why you were taken by force out of the plane..
10. NOW it's a problem??
Chaim ,   Sweden   (09.30.14)
In El-Als 50+ years of operation, is this the first time haredim fly on El-Al and do not want to sit next to women? Shame on El-Al that after half of century of flying they haven't been able to devise a system for seat reservation to accomodate the haredims need to sit separated from the opposite sex. And shame on anybody who behave rudely against fellow human beings. That is not according to Halacha.
11. Any special arrangements
Sagi   (09.30.14)
made by EL AL, or any other airline, to accommodate the lunacy of the Haredim would be tantamount to institutionalizing and giving legitimacy to their demands which are unacceptable and incompatible with a modern society and its values of democracy, freedom of choice, speech and movement. This is not an option.
12. there is a simple way to avoid the problem
zionist forever   (09.30.14)
If you book your ticket via the ELAL website you choose your seat so why not indicate on the site which sex people in reserved seats are, good for everybody. Its not a complete solution but it can help avoid alot of the problems from ever happening.
13. That happened to my daughter...
David ,   Hartford USA   (09.30.14)
and the 30-something Hasid acted like a crybaby. "I can't sit next to HER!!" This went on for 15 minutes. Somebody should have slapped him across his face to wake him up to the real world. If El Al wants to allow the Hasids to control the seating arrangements, then every woman who is harassed should be offered a seat in FIRST CLASS for her troubles. Delay an entire plane because some grown men are afraid they might see a woman? Pathetic idiots. If the men can't control their 'urges,' I suggest they come aboard with paper bags to be placed OVER THEIR HEADS.

Hey Moe, let's try that argument in court. Whaddya say?
15. #1 100% correct
Airborne ,   Jerusalem   (09.30.14)
My last flight on United was delayed 35 mins due to the constant switching. You must sit in your assigned seats.
16. #14 great idea
Dov ,   Israel   (10.01.14)
I think you should take it up with the Chief Judge, namely Hashem, and tell Him you're against His old-fashioned "discriminatory" laws.
17. the Halacha is OK with women
Jake ,   Jerusalem   (10.01.14)
It is ok to sit next to a woman if you are not touching her. In all airplanes there is a arm rest between the seats. ElAl should speak to a few of the big poseks (grand rabbis) to make this clear and then have it printed up. Next time these religious extremist people board the plane and make a fuss, hand them the sheet with the psak halacha signed by the rabbis and tell them either sit down or be escorted off the plane and lose your money. IGNORAMUSES !
18. Removing them - delaying flight for 2-3 hours
Reuben ,   Tel Aviv   (10.01.14)
Removing passengers already alighted and had their bags checked in is delaying the flight for 2-3 hours more. According to airline procedure (for security concerns) the bags have to be removed from the plane as well. The bags would have to be taken out from the plane, identified and removed. Apart from that the plane will have to wait for a clearance from the air controller for departure, delaying the flight further as air traffic is high. The best option would have been to get them arrested after arriving in Israel for discrimination, intimidation and nuisance.
19. I will never allow these shirkers to determine my life
Al   (10.01.14)
that is why I refuse to support them in any way. I ask the question When will people realize that they do not represent the Jews nor our religion? ElAl panders to them because they do make up a large portion of their clientele. However that does not give them license to disturb the other clientele. The only way to get ELAL to do their job of customer service is to boycott them.
