1. a short summary
(10.06.14)
The article can be summarized. When the Leftists (Barak, Yehimovich, Peres, Herzog) decided to destroy the SLA and run from Lebanon they not only committed a crime, they struck a critical blow to Israeli security. The Leftists are directly responsible for the power of Hezbollah, numerous wars and deaths, and apparently the coming deadly war that Yossi Yehoshua warns about. Say it again: like always the Left was completely wrong, the Right understands reality.
2. Feeling disappointed in our generals
Avi ,   Israel   (10.06.14)
After carefully familiarizing myself with Mr. Yehoshua precious pronouncements, it occurred to me whether our government should urgently consider replacing or at least giving a serious thought of replacing general Gantz by the author of that pithy analysis. Indeed, if I am to blindly follow the thought processes that swirled in his brain, then I have to assume involuntarily that the observational and critical capacities of the defense minister and subordinated to him generals have been functioned lately at so low level that they should immediately, mandatory to see their psychiatrists. But before they do that indeed, personally I would like to see Mr. Y.'s psychiatric evaluation. Indeed, how could it occurred to him, a journalist, to trust being a much better strategist than those who were not only trained to be such, but who also have a rich experience in dealing with the matters which our bold analyst had the opportunity to study while drinking coffee in Ynet's boiling room and similar educational facilities.
3. Hezbollah has changed the rules
mat ,   uk   (10.06.14)
Israel should be ready for all kind of scenarios Israel have to ask themselves what would our enemies will plan against us in the future etc.most likely there are people who should do it if there are what do they to say about it
4. a prudent warning that should be followed... but as #2
Rafi ,   US   (10.06.14)
points out, it is hard to believe that IDF command would not be aware of the same trends cited by the author...
5. Hez boola is desperate
Freedom for Israel ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.06.14)
The Hezis are being demolished by ISIS and the Syrian rebel groups. We should let them continue destroying themselves. God is great and HE is the ONE destroying our enemies. Causing them to war amongst themselves. Our enemies are killing each other all over the place. Happy is BELIEVER.... ASHREI HAMAAMINIM .....
6. spend money on equipment not haredi draft
zionist forever   (10.06.14)
A good start would be ditch haredi enlistment which cost the IDF millions because it needs to create new hesader units ( army yeshivas ) whose enlistment will come at the price of equipment. The enlistment was a personal grudge of Lapid playing on hatred and instead a civilian national service should have been created for haredi where they could provide a useful service rather than they would be sharing the burden rather than adding to the IDF economic burden.
7. Hezbollah is Bleeding
Jake ,   Haifa   (10.06.14)
According to various press reports, Hezbollah has lost well over 600 men killed in the fighting in Syria, and that number is climbing rapidly(ten more were killed today) If the regular force is only 15,000 men, then they are getting close to 5% loss, already, not including wounded and disabled. One can assume this will get to 10% within this year, the way the fighting is going. Can Hezbollah really take 10% of their standing force, killed, not to mention the wounded and disabled and fight another war?

9. Who wrote the rules of the game?
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (10.06.14)
I'm under the impression that it was the UN Security Council that wrote the rules and gave them the name Resolution 1701. Where were the UN troops when Hizbollah were where they weren't supposed to be?Getting ready for Succoth? THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
10. Check that!
JVC ,   LA, CA   (10.07.14)
Yes, Israel's generals have lost their balls as has the Israeli establishment which needs to tell the US more firmly to go jack off... However, taking a page from Sun Tzu, let the Islamic mayhem continue. Hizbollah and ISIS are two sides of the same coin. Perfect for one another. Left to their own devices the Arabs never miss a chance to set themselves back a few decades, or centuries. If they ever got organized en masse... Whew, then they might be dangerous....
11. shameful haredim
Tom ,   Jerusalem   (10.09.14)
Lapid has done what Israel should have done long ago. The 'budget theory' is only an excuse to drop this just reform. Many strong and young haredim go to old and poor people's neighbourhoods/flats to ask for donations... incredible to see.. It's a DISGRACE that the haredim think they don't need to contribute in any way (we pray for ourselves, thank you)
12. How intelligent is Israeli Intel? eh?
Jewbie ,   NYC NY USA   (10.08.14)
Hopefully better than in the Gaza flop. I hoped Israel knows where every HEZ rocket is hidden, where every Hez operative lives and where Hez's families are hidden, scheduled to be the usual HUMAN SHIELDS. I hope the IDF has a handle on HEZ
13. Deceiving title. Deceiving Analysis.
i-dec   (10.08.14)
Hezbollah was always an overrated misfit. Just alive by the protection of USA. It was forbidden to eliminate or hurt them, because it would anger the angry revolutionary guards. Appeasement is a miserable attitude. USA discard the failed policies, and failed leaders.
14. @12 Unlikely...
JVC ,   LA, USA   (10.10.14)
Unfortunately the Hezzie madness has been spinning circles around the IDF ground forces from an operational standpoint since at least the early 90's. My take on it is... until Israelis return to the values of the early pre-state years and bring back a fighting ethos reminiscent of Sharon, Rabin, Eitan, etc., "He with the biggest balls" will win on the ground and presently, and for some time, this casual observer would award the biggest balls to the Hez. A shame too as the IDF once defined "Balls". Oslo, modernity, affluence, values, and many other factors weigh in here. I don't expect Israelis to return to the mythos of the 1950's but I think professionalizing Tza'hal by hiring professional soldiers would be a good first step. The US extricated itself from its military nadir of the 1970's and now fields what are arguably the best special operations forces on the planet. Israel used to own this category. I'm sure it could do so again if it wanted to...
