1. Here's what I don't understand
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.16.14)
Why do Israelis feel an absolute compunction to visit far-off and dangerous places? Gaza's right next door. So are Lebanon and Syria. For pity's sake, isn't there enough exotic beauty in the State of Israel to satisfy their wanderlust? How many wonderful young people do we have to bury until they realize that there is nothing attractive about whitewater rafting in Peru, or scaling mountains in Nepal? These are third-world countries, with third-world medical facilities and search and rescue personnel. Stay home. Trek through the Negev. Gaze upward in amazement at the extraordinary blizzard of stars in the desert night sky. Climb Mount Hermon. Luxuriate in the beauty of Israel, and it is a stunningly beautiful country. Don't court death in faraway places from which you may never return home. Peru? Nepal? Why?
