1. Why bother? let them feel "Elite"
Jerome ,   Auckland   (10.20.14)
I was married to one of them for 13 years. The legacy she brought from her German parents was a sandwich for dinner. No forks - no knives- no plates. Cookies were hidden from our children, in case of another world war. When she got prescribed an egg size medicine for thrush, she asked me how she was supposed to swallow this?......... So not only there are stupid individuals among them but also extremely dumb ones. I was married to one!
2. That is a weird conference
AY ,   USA   (10.20.14)
when it doesn't have "the Other" participating... Obviously, there are enough qualified participants who are not Ashkenazi.
3. I agree
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.20.14)
It is a disgrace. It is equally disgraceful that Eli Cohen, z"l does not appear on a high-denomination Israeli banknote. But such discrimination is not reflected in Israeli society. Marriage among Sephardic, Mizrahi and Ashkenazi is commonplace. Has been for some time.
4. We certainly don't need academic imbeciles to tell us whom &
(10.20.14)
when to accept! So typically arrogant and yes: Ashkenazi-like to be doing this. were they all "Polish" as well(?)
5. Seems odd...
Abu Zibby ,   Haifa, IL   (10.20.14)
The conference hasn't even started, Ben-Dror Yemini hasn't been there, hasn't seen the line-up of speakers and guest speakers and yet provides us with his prefabricated opinion about how it all went. How ridiculous is that? The real problem here here is not Ashekensi-Mizrachi-Schmusi, but the low quality of Yedioth's editors and op-eds.
6. Sarah you're wrong
(10.20.14)
As a Jew I was always raised and told that my biggest enemy is..... The jew!!! Who hates more a Jew than a Jew? I've always seen this old rent between Ashkenazis and Sfaradim
7. Caste system anyone ?
Raptor   (10.20.14)
8. I am "Israeli"
Sagi   (10.20.14)
That is my citizenship. I refuse to be called "Yehudi". I am glad that it does not appear on my ID card, although I do know that it is in code. I fought three wars and 30 years of reserve service, with and for all those who are "Israelis". I refuse to accept the categories of Ashkenazi and Sepharadi. A house divided cannot stand.
9. Academics are about theories, not realities.
tiki ,   belgium   (10.20.14)
When not in need to put one's money where one's mouth is, its wonderful to palaver for days and to give a spiritual and intellectual insight of how the world should be if only, those with a different opinion & background, would listen.
10. A bigger disgrace on Israeli banknotes and a big shame on
Moshe   (10.20.14)
Israel is the new 50 shekel bill featuring a Jew who intermarried. Disgusting!
11. How about the judicial system not accepting other
Moshe   (10.20.14)
than Ashkenazim throughout the years except for "1" Sephardi.
12. To: Sagi at No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.21.14)
Amen!
13. separation
Larry ,   Israel   (10.21.14)
Two new rabbis, one Ashkenazi and one Sephardic, will be selected in Jerusalem ,,,, Religion is what is separating people .. it's about time they elect a sabra rabbi Same goes for all Israeli academies
14. will your new book be translated in English?
Oren   (10.22.14)
