....with enough money can be found to buy IMI. What a foolish idea to privatize a security sensitive essential industry. Floating on the public stock-market is also impossible as to much secret information would have to be divulged.
lets hope that some Israeli and jewish billionaires get together and buy it Israeli military industries must remain in Israel
what's a billion dollar to Israel haters
but Israel government hopefully if it will be sold will make sure it is not going to fall directly or indirectly into the wrong buyers
maybe there should be a referendum about this
While the idea of privatizing many of the governmental monopolies is good, I'm a little hesitant about doing so in the military industry. If the companies are sold and then taken out of Israel, that is a lot of revenue that will be lost to Israel and Israelis. I'm sure that the government won't sell 100% of it's stake in the company but enough to give it a minor stake so some money would come in if it were to move. Also, Israel wouldn't sell to Arab countries or funds (or at least I'd like to believe), however, an investment bank may purchase the companies and then in turn, sell them to Arab or hostile-to-Israel entities.
The good news is that it would free up some room in the budget to be spent on other areas other than defense such as housing and education.
Some of the planned privatisations are a good but IMI cannot be privatised because it will put national security in the hands of investors.
If they think a weapon will only be bought by the IDF. Iron Dome would probably never have been built by the private sector as its to much of a specialist system with only limited sales potential outside the IDF.
Why Israel needs military industries when 96 percent of their weapon are supplied by the US taxpayers. Almost all weapons and planes used to kill 2100 humans in Gaza were Made in USA.
