1. war on Israel
David   (11.10.14)
It's about time that this newspaper stop the psychological war that it has been waging on Israel's supporters over the past few weeks and months-- every other day a mournful or scornful article either declaring defeat or bemoaning the lack of defeat, masqueraded with bold headlines in front of all of the actual news items as if it were actually news. Enough already. There are enough enemies of Israel and naysayers in the world. This pathetic exercise only serves to create more of them.
2. reaching an agreement
solomon ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (11.10.14)
The Israeli government must come to terms that unless they clamp down on arab violence, not even allowing an arab to throw a rock or firecracker at a Jew or train, that every offence that they commit is held punishable by death to not only them, but to their entire community for allowing this is occur, that Israel will be conceding defeat to the arabs-showing them that indeed we are weak and afraid of them! Do not worry about public opinion, the arabs have put out such a good PR and bull sh-t that the world is already against us!

egypt is gonna dig a big tunnel preparing for a great tunnel war so why don't you ally with hamas , abbas is epic shit , he is over all his money and his tit-for-tat game is over
4. What the residents of Gaza do ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.10.14)
... or do not do is hardly our business. Israel is in the business of protecting and defending Israeli citizens, who have suffered considerably at the hands of Gaza terrorists. It is those same terrorists in Gaza against whom the wrath of the people of Gaza should rightfully be directed. Did they think that Israel would simply allow tens of thousands of missiles and tens of thousands of mortars to be fired at Israeli civilian population centers without a response? But given Hamas' responses -- and lack thereof -- during Protective Edge, the goal of the ersatz "palestinians" is now abundantly clear. They are not in the least bit interested in peaceful coexistence with the Jewish state. They want to supplant the Jewish state, and to exterminate the Jews. Israel is not going to allow that to happen. The ersatz "palestinians" can have Gaza, and if they approach Egyptian president al Sisi very nicely, perhaps he will renew his offer of additional land from the Sinai. The "palestinians" cannot have Jerusalem. They cannot have Haifa. They cannot have Jaffa. They cannot have Haifa, or Akko. Nor can they have Judea and Samaria. They need to understand that Gaza is the last, best offer they will get. If they prefer to die in a futile effort to destroy the Jewish State, that is fine with me. I do not care if one child dies, ten children die, or all Gaza children die. Their mistake is in believing that Israel is their enemy. We are not. Hamas, Fatah and the rest of the alphabet soup of ersatz terrorist organizations are their enemies. The sovereign State of Israel is here to stay. In the not-so-distant future, that state will include Judea and Samaria, and it will not include Arabs from Judea and Samaria. They will have to make do with Gaza. If that is not good enough for them, they are free to die in vast numbers while exercising their extraordinary stupidity. I cannot say this strongly enough. The State of Israel, with its eternal and indivisible capital city of Jerusalem, are here to stay. The ersatz "palestinians" will not rest until they have taken away everything that is Israel and until they have exterminated every single Jewish man, woman and child in the State of Israel. It's a fantasy that will not be realized. They must learn that they will have to settle for Gaza -- and lucky they are indeed that Israel is willing to give them Gaza for their state. They need to accept the geopolitical reality. Or, they need to understand that they will die in vast numbers. But Israel -- and the Jewish people -- are here to stay. What the ersatz "palestinians" wish to do with their future is largely up to them. But if they choose a foolish path and continue to challenge Israel's sovereignty generally, and absolute sovereignty over Jerusalem, the will not meet with a good end. Make no mistake. Any attempt to destroy Israel will result in the absolute destruction of the ersatz "palestinian" people. The Jewish state is here to stay. Get used to it, because it will not change.

Adi ,   Zurich   (11.10.14)
does this author have a solution. All he does is defame the govt
6. Author. There is No arab to talk to apart from Sisi. You can
Adi ,   Zurich   (11.10.14)
Author. There is No arab to talk to apart from Sisi. You cant keep blaming Netanyahu. No one else has come with a logical plan and the palestinians have proven every day they prefer killing to discussions. If it eas another leader. He would have succummed to Obama pressure and Israel would look like Libya and Syria. Stop your slander and present a plan, not ideas in the sky.
7. The author is worried.
Ezra ,   San Diego   (11.10.14)
"the world is against us." The world will always be against us. Israel is surrounding by enemies. Either be strong or die. The ugly truth is negotiations are fruitless with prejudges Arabs..
8. Pals will demand free concessions for talks+agree to nothing
Sam ,   Canada   (11.10.14)
The Left and the West have the same silliness to offer for peace. If only Israel would offer more concessions, it goes, then the Palestinians would agree to a Jewish Israel's existence. It's rubbish. What the Palestinians do is take the prisoners or freeze or money or territory and agree to nothing. They simply reject a Jewish Israel for the long term. The Israeli Left is more appealing to the West because they are both hopeful and naive. They are both taken advantage of because the Palestinians know this. If Israel wants a stop to all violence it should give up and surrender.
9. A sobering assessment...when will the Israeli public realize
Rafi ,   US   (11.10.14)
... realize that the current leadership is there to serve themselves, stay in power - and NOT to serve the interests of the State and the people? When will the public realize that - as this article clearly articulates - the current govt is leading the country over a cliff?
10. Jerusalem city
salvador aguilos ,   Philippines   (11.10.14)
The Word of GOD the Bible says Jerusalem is the capital city Israel. Canaan;promised by GOD to Abraham's son Isaac. The land given to Jews. the Koran also says in Sura 5verse 21"Allah assigned Israel to Jews" Sura26 verse 59"Jews inheritors of Israel" peace to all Arabs and Jews.
11. the Europeans & UN created this mess not Netanyahu
zionist forever   (11.10.14)
Since Abbas dreamed up his own initiative of a state in 2016 with or without peace and the Europeans recognising a palestinian state & supporting his plan then its made Abbas feel like there is nothing to compromise. Unless Abbas is willing to compromise there can't be an Israel initiative. Netanyahu also has the added problem of having Livni on the left, Bennet on the far right and Lapid changing sides daily and add to that Kerry & Obama so his options are limited.
12. It's a no-brainer...
Jonathan   (11.10.14)
That Israel hasn't finished the war, just a few weeks ago... due to international pressure. It is clear that the war has to continue... against Hamas, and other terrorists that believe that Terror is the answer. Well, force is an answer to Terror. If people don't understand that terror, and people who promote/support/sponsor terror should be dealt with, directly. However long it takes - will always just postpone the next round of war. Shimon is still among those very few delusionals, who fail to understand that Hamas DOES NOT want discussions or agreements. Hamas wants the WHOLE of Israel. But it's OK. This propaganda and words like "probability" or "security" maybe helps selling ad-space on Ynet or so... otherwise, I cannot understand this "eye-opening" articles that tell us how stupid we are for ending a war (mid-way) and not giving up more land to terror. Funny, and sad, at the same time.
13. neighborwood..
Michel ,   Ashkelon   (11.10.14)
Perhaps because our neighbors are not the Canadians or the Italians but a bunch of fanatics full of hate.
14.  i disagree with mr .shiffer-
oded ,   usa   (11.10.14)
over the last millenia the israeli arab conflict had its ups and downs. it is the fundumental rejection of all if not most arabs, of the jewish entity in its midst that remains the main obstacle. not until the arab leaders interalize that israel is here to stay that some co-exsitence can prevail. to try again and again to pin the conflict on "lack of intiative by israle's leadership" is futile, and politically motivated. the arabs demand what they don't deserve ,and force israel to give up what it cannot afford to.
15. fear is an extremely powerful motivating factor
CJK   (11.10.14)
it is obvious that the muslims are succeeding in their campaign of terror against the jews. it is also obvious that incitement against the jewish state of israel by the obama administration has hugely increased acts of terror against jews both within israel and in the diaspora. most recently, a kosher restaurant was firebombed in paris france. jewish students are physically attacked on american university campuses in all impunity. it is certain that there is a conspiracy against israel and jews in the diaspora. it would be absolutely tragic if fear would take over jews in israel who at least have the weapons to defend themselves. it would be even more tragic if jews fell into the trap of blaming themselves for the immense jew hatred present in much of the world. the sole reason for the existence of the jewish state is self defence. if israel cannot defend herself from enemies within and without, then judaism might as well die out.
16. tired of hateful leftist rants and incitement
daniel ,   TA _ IL   (11.10.14)
Just start listening to the arabs... they do not want peace. The article does not contain more than demonizing all jews who do not agree with the writer. Also the world will hate jews - we do not need proof for that and certainly not bad excuses
17. We have to ask Abbas
Sammy ,   Brighton   (11.10.14)
What Plan are you proposing? 1. 2 State Solution Israel and East and West Palestine 2. 3 State Solution Israel and Independent Gaza and Palestine in the West Bank 3. 1999 New York Plan Expanded Palestine centred in Gaza with Israeli Negev in exchange for West Bank plus Land purchases from Egyptian Sinai Or are you democratically going to put it to Palestinians to decide?
18. reciprocity
tiki ,   belgium   (11.10.14)
One talks to someone who wants to talk! One discusses with someone who does want to discuss! One fights with someone that wants to fight! One makes peace with someone that wants to make peace! All the rest is empty rhetoric.
19. Myopic view
Michael p ,   USA   (11.11.14)
schiffer's views are a bit myopic. While Israel should always pursue peace there are realities which the leaders are intimately aware of. The Palestinian authority and Hamas want the Jews gone and dead. Once you understand that, there are few options to endeavor. The world has betrayed the Jews time and again. No surprise it will happen yet again. They are not being threatened by a fanatical people living next door. Peace will come when the Palestinian people are no longer led by death brokers or one side eliminates the other Why is Egypt not having the same pressure placed on it for their treatment of Gaza? The double standard placed on Israel by the world will lead to the next conflict more than any other factor. How can peace ensue when groups like Hamas seemingly have the world support and can launch rockets with impunity? No other nation in the world has had the expectations placed on it as Israel had been held to. And all for what? Europe is afraid of the Fanantical Muslim hoards in their streets. Shame on them for their spineless politics and policies that let the most intolerant people dictate the Modus apperandus in their liberal minded democracies. They are and will pay a heavy price for that and they want Israel to pay too. Israel is the last and only refuge for Jews that have suffered oppression for thousands of years. If they are a bit touchy, quick on the trigger and cynical of the peace process it is understandable. They know that peace leads to more demands and them more fighting and more demands and more fighting until Israel and the Jews assume their position in history along side of the Trojans and Atlantis. Wake up--there is no peace with murderers, psychopaths and cowards.
