Having lived in Israel (and still do) for over 50 years, I can tell you that Jon Stewart is 100% right. Israel's present leadership is like someone on heroin, and as you know , sometimes to save someone from himself requires harsh measures. PS Joe I want to compliment you on the clean and reasonable language you use, unlike that pig Adam Eshbee.

It isn't a matter of criticizing him on the basis of his Jusaism, but if we, as Jews, don't stand staunchly behind Israel during this critical time, we become part of the problem.

My father, z"l, used to gaze with wonder at the endless debates of "Who is a Jew" held in the Knesset and rabbinical courts almost endlessly. Dad was a concentration camp survivor. He had a very practical view of the subject. He said that there was no reason for the Jews to debate the subject. May as well embrace it now, Mr. Stewart. It's not a bad place to be at all. Unless, of course, you'd rather be a goy. Go for it. Eat all the tref you want. But always -- ALWAYS -- keep in mind that there may come the day when the choice is no longer yours. After all, it has happened before. Lots of times. Can you spell "Torquemada?" How about "Chelmnicki?" And, of course, "Hitler." "Goebbels." An endless list, may all their names be cursed throughout eternity. You can run, Mr. Stewart, but you cannot hide. They will find you. Jon Steward has opinions on Israel. No problem here. Jon Steward makes a fortune by spewing the easy, most fashionable Israel bashing on an insanely popular mass-media venue in America, one that blurs its political reality as "faux news" -- I have a big problem with that. The name change speaks volumes.

he hides his anti-israel bias behind relatives who perished under horrific circumstances during the holocaust. he thinks, wrongly, that these victims of the holocaust somehow justify his opinions. stewart has a vague, superficial understanding of the conflict in which israel finds herself embroiled. he does not understand that hamas is an arm of the muslim brotherhood and a proxy of iran, all genocidal totalitarian entities sworn to the destruction of the jewish state of israel. stewart makes light of the many thousands of missiles fired into israeli population centers by hamas and islamic jihad. he thinks that this war crime is canceled out by the iron dome which reduced israeli casualties. stewart fails to understand that hamas aggression against israel is in itself a war crime since it put gaza civilians at risk of being killed. he furthermore fails to know that hamas uses civilians as human shields. stewart simply parrots the positions of the obama administration. he believes that building some apartments in jewish neighborhoods in jerusalem is the impediment to peace. he fails to acknowledge that jews were murdered by muslims even before the declaration of independence and before the six day war. he refuses to acknowledge that the vast majority of muslims, world wide, would want to see israel destroyed. one can only suspect that jon stewart, who was subjected as a child to antisemitic attacks is afraid.

Why can Jon Steward call Jewish people with a different opinion 'fascists, but are these 'fascists not allowed to call him a "self hating Jew? That 'members of his family were murdered in the Holocaust is not an argument for him to spout his opinions on television, with the sole purpose of getting good ratings = MONEY! "A 1000 more acres in the West Bank" proves his ignorance on the matter!

You truly think Jews need any more self-hating? We look to the past and we do not want to be weak and dependent anymore and we certainly do not want to apologize for defending ourselves - which Stewart clearly criticizes. He just IS one of those who enjoy the role of the poor and pitiful Jew, everyone sympathizes with because his parent/grandparents lost relatives during the Holocaust. He speaks in de Yehudaizing terms. How totally ubiquitous and tiresome it is to keep on hearing the ridiculous claim that criticism of something which touches ever so slightly on Israel or other Jews must be "self hatred." There is plenty I don't like about all religion, but I refuse to make Judaism an exception, and if these self-righteous fools believe that this makes me a self-hater, they should think again. I don't hate myself one bit, but I do hate some of the behavior I see and experience (especially as a woman by Jewish Orthodox men) done in the name of their religion. Burning mosques stinks. Spitting at women stinks. Jews making despicably filthy remarks to equally despicable non Jews on these very pages stinks and I don't care if that makes me a "self-hating Jew" simply because I object to bad behavior done in MY name. Good for John Stewart for the right answer to the wrong accusation. How dare anybody decide who and who isn't the better Jew? To the ridiculous accusation of name changing from Leibowitz (or whatever, quite frankly), where do these ignorant folk reckon that nice Jewish names like Schwartz, Zimmerman or any of the names adopted in Spain (for surnames were not part of the Hebrew tradition other than "son of such-and-such") until the 11th century (Sephardics) and as late as the 18th/19th century (Ashkenazi). It's a deep sign of severe insecurity all this "self-hating Jew" nonsense. The sooner the Jews as a nation learn to use criticism to better themselves instead of over defensiveness, the better it will be for Jewish progress in the world.
